Just throwing this out there for the trolls to feed..
Sprained my ankle pretty bad today skiing, can barely walk right now, anyone have any suggestions? Ice? heat? cold steak? cold beer?
Seriously, any physical therapy pros out there?
Help me get back on the wagon...err off..
Generally speaking, Ice (20min), rest, elevate for the first 48hours to reduce inflammation. That's about all I know for sure.

You are not going to get a blood clot (DVT) by wrapping your ankle.
It's a nice gesture to give advice but for those ask for it, the free advice you receive on the Internet can be worth every penny you paid for it.

Cumstain, shut the fuck up. There's a ton of stoke on the front page and you're cunting it up with your whiny threads. My ankle hurts, I can't go skiing, no one will ski with me, fort collins sucks. Take it to the padded room if you need the attention, otherwise, STFU.
Are ya sure about that? Because I spent a night in the hospital with a blood clot in mine, after I fell asleep with an ace bandage on and it cut the circulation off because it kept swelling as I slept. That's where they told me it came from.Quote:

i'd recommend see ing a doc. i am now 9 months past my initial injury and still got problems. it didnt hurt that badly at first (i actually boarded on it for another 2 days afterwards) so i forgot about it. then i rediscovered it over the summer while DH biking. i've been in physical therapy now for the last 3 months, no resolution in sight. it's still focked up.
if you are set on rolling the dice and not seeing a doc, ibuprofen and ice. once the pain is gone, start strength training exercises immediately.

Thanks, I needed the attention. The ankle is not swollen and it's feeling a little better today. I dont see why I'd want to think about boot sizing though as I'm sure I got the right size 4 years ago when I purchased them from Garts Sports. I wear a 10 shoe, so anyone who skis as hard as I do could tell ya that I obviously am looking for a 12-14 boot (two sizes up for the extra thick wool socks, cotton balls, and chili peppers). jeesh.
That said, in an attempt to rescue this thread from triviality (sp), if I was in fact riding a 350 day old boot with skateboard shoe insoles and one removable tongue how could one go about remedying the fit short of buying a new boot or cruisin up to Vail for a $400 custom job?? Duct tape and dish rags?
Oh, and don't drop the c-bomb anymore please. That word is ugly.

I am 11 months from my sprain, and still dealing with some soreness. High speed tele fall / slide. Went for my edges and paid the price. I ripped one ski off buckle and all, the other one got twisted up pretty bad.
and yes, beer and carbombs helped ease the pain.
There may even be a pattern here. I was skiing fast in fresh snow on alpine gear and booted out I guess, because one ski just kind of decided to stop mid turn and threw me way forward. Din being set high I think I nose manualed for a godd 15 or twenty feet before double ejecting to face. My knee hurt more than my ankle at first, then my ankle made me want to cry last night and if I didn't have this tough guy core bro attitude thing going on here I may even admit that I did, just a little bit.Quote:

I broke my ankle in my boot as well.
Sprained it bad this year, fixed it REALLY quickly by doing following.
800mg vit. I 4x a day
Take a bucket your foot/ankle will fit in, fill with ice and water. submerge foot/ankle/lower leg for 15-20 min. Repeat every hour.
Do the above for a couple hours and I bet you are skiing by Monday.
FWIW Seth broke is twice in a boot so it isn't just poor fitting boots/totally freak. It's pretty easy to do early.

2nd I have also fucked up my ankle while skiing. It was new snow that just covered the stumps but looked great. I was ripping along when all of the sudden I was flying through the air with one ski on. I could not believe that I could release from a DIN setting of 15. I hit a stump that stop that ski dead.
I've managed to twist my ankle in my boots as well. It was a backwards twisting fall around the axis of my tibia. It sucked, but could have been a lot worse.Quote:

Interesting. It was a strange experience, lots of people whispering etc, I was never sure entirely what was going on until the next morning. I will say that you are right about getting medical advice from the internet. Unfortunately with sprains, not to pick on your profession, just sayin', my experience has been, weak ankles, lots of problems. I have probably had at least 20 sprains, and sought medical advice for about half. I quit seeking advice for sprains simply because, I got tired of a PA looking at my foot (never touching or examining )saying jeez I bet that hurts, sending me to xray, making me wait for 45 minutes and then coming back saying: "You were right it's just a sprain and handing me a copy of "RICE" and sending me home and treating me as if my condition were minor compared to everything else that was going on. So after awhile, I learned that it was "only minor" and not to run to the DR. anymore. So anyway, not trying to pick on you, but I think alot of people feel this way in this situation and therefore choose not to waste your time or theirs.Quote:
