That whole video was a disgrace and made snowboarders look like adolescent dicks "yo stein, we poached your mountain, sun." good on ya, retard. :nonono2::nonono2:
Is Burton losing their younger base demographic or something? If Jake really wanted to protest, he would buy some land in VT and start a snowboarder only mountain.
I wonder what their take on a snowboard only mountain would be if one already existed? Would they be up in arms about that?
It wouldn't make any $$$$.
Not that I have anything against snowboarding, but why do they always have jib off everything and spin little 180's an inch off the ground? What is that shit?
ummmm....
That's called "having fun with terrain you got"
I can't believe you just asked that question
Riding in the Albion Basin area isn't poaching, that's just lame. Woohoo, you sure showed those beginners something... :rolleyes2
I rode down to Goldminer's Daughter (the bar at Alta) from the Baldy Express chair at the 'Bird for the Utah mini a few years back. Funny bit is even though I was riding directly under the chair, I caught 0 flak from the skiiers overhead or otherwise....nobody cared.
Alta's snowboarding ban only applies to riding the lifts anyways....
I'm thinking of hiking over from the 'Bird and hitting Main Chute at Alta one day this season when it's open, not for the poaching aspect but because it looks like a kickass run.

All snowboarders are little white kids who..... you know, this troll aint even worth it.
go on about your bidness.
hasn't there already been at least one thread on this?
You can hate all you want but I am just waiting for all the submitted videos to go up. I really didn't like the section where they were at Deer Valley I think it is and were riding over people's skis and taping them and such. Not classy. The other stuff was deeeeecent. I can't believe they hiked that far though.
edit: But yes, it is one of the worst Alta poaches I've seen.
Lets see, Deer Valley sucks anyway, have fun traversing Alta on a borard, Mad River is in Vermont, so that leaves Taos (don't know much about there). Sounds like a really worthwhile battle:rolleyes:
No, Taos is ours now. (March 08')
Sorry.
And I totally disagree with the Burton campaign, BTW.
"That shit" is what pushes snowboarding into a realm beyond sport. Snowboarding promotes freedom, creativity, expression, and progression.
In other words, many people are drawn to ride because they see the mountain and a different way and want to explore that vision.
Take your hate elsewhere, man.
Why all the hate? I'm a snowboarder turned skier, and I don't see why people have these predisposed opinions that are usually just based on hardcore, idiotic biases. Snowboarding rules. Skiing rules, too. Different strokes for different folks.
Now, snow-skating. That's gay. Why can't we ban that?
A respectable point kansas, but I haven't seen anyone on a snowboard do anything that all those flippy spinny jibby kids on skis cant do.
I watched that video the other day. Every "poach" segment is just dumb. They should have gotten splitboards and ridden the lifts.
Except invent every single one of those tricks?
(or migrate them from skateboarding...)
That being said, this discourse is stupid.
If aliens were watching from above, I believe that all that they would see is spoiled, rich, mostly white people sliding downhill on snow...the difference between the two would be moot.
Especially with splitboards in the mix.
BTW, the splitboard poach was done decades ago...and featured in snowboarding magazine. Alta lifties are aware of this ruse, trust me.
Fair enough. I dont really follow the jibbing movement all that closely. I was just throwing it out there.
How about this one has it been done?
Up the snowbird with a board. some how stash it really well. have a mate bring another board up to ride down on. Next day or same day. ride up the alta lifts with skis and a backpack with your snow board boots. get to your stashed board get geared up and poach away?
uhhhh...did you watch the video?
When I go out west I couldn't agree with you more -- boarders are alot different out west in my experience. In the Minnesota it's a different story.
I guess snowboarders get on my nerves cause they act like their all revolutionary and look down on skiers. In Minnesota these little punks look at me like I'm an idoit for skiing. They literally give the skiers attitude. I don't get much cause I would beat their ass but the younger skiers get tons of crap. Skiing is REALLY uncool around here.
These little punks board around with bandanas over their face like their at some anarchist convention. They're little tools that listen to Green Day and think their hardcore. It's sad really.
Edit: I was at Solitude the other day and talking to a snowboarder on a shuttle that passed Brighton on the way to the 2nd Solitude base area. He said he didn't like going to Brighton cause the younger snowboarders act like little punks. I actually disagreed with him since I like Brighton and haven't got bad vibes there -- everybody was nice to me. But he just pointed out the window and said "thats what I'm talking about" as we passed a bunch of teenage snowboarders -- they really did look like a bunch of little punks. I guess the attitude must be out there too but I've never noticed it. The last time I was at Brighton the guy working at the shop told me to come back the next day so he could hook me up with a Brighton issue T-shirt since you can't buy the stuff that's like the employees get. Seemed like good people to me but there are alot of punks that make snowboarders look bad.
the eloquent and self righteous intro proclaiming boarders have the right to board anywhere did not at all reflect the attitude of the athletes who partook in the poaching. i can't believe he mr. burton, after his semi-compelling argument in the intro, would follow up with riding over skis, spraying snow on skiers, slapping butts, pretending you don't know snowboards aren't allowed and saying "stein, we just poached your mountain, son." their antics on the hill were highly disrespectful to the skiers and the apparent disdain for the skiers would only hurt their 'revolution' to 'liberate' mountains that have a ban on snowboarding.
I wonder if you could roll up to the lift on a split board and say "it's the newest technology in tele skis" and get away with it?
stfu
I feel like I stepped back in time by 20 years.
Nobody at Alta gives a shit, save for a few decaying guests who literally live at the AL.
I'd be pretty pissed off if the kids who snowboard in PA and at Hunter mountain came to poach Alta, but I'm guessing if it was someone like Rideit or Craig Kelly (RIP) I'd be stoked...the latter two would probably have too much class to do such a thing tho.

I cant stand kids like that..Thats why I avoid terrain parks like the plauge.
I think that snowboarding is very cool. I have photographed some sick riders that blow my mind with their skills, but the thing that bugs me is the attitude that is "in your face". That Deer valley clip was lame. Riding over their skis and slaping them on the but was just plain stupid. Prove how cool snowboarding is by your riding and not how stupid you look on the hill.
Ha Ha. Snowboarding is over. Skiing is the new "snowboarding".
bwahaha , MRG apparntly took the Poach better than Toas
splitboard anyone?

Did you ever think the reason that they wear the bandanas over their faces and such is because it does annoy you grandpa?
Nothing says "rad" like poaching a run-out. Those guys were sick!
