Well, that is officially my new Spatula setup. I ordered the binders for them yesterday, and I'm having them mounted up when I'm out in Whistler. Does anyone else have Look's on Spatulas? Will this setup be good, or will it suck. I have Looks on my race boards and couldn't be happier. Review to come sometime in the next 2 weeks, hopefully. [antijinx]

It'd be soooo sweet if you got to use them before the end of the season.
I hope so roo. Hopefully I'll get a few days on them in Whistler, and God willing, I may even take them out on the right coast if conditions warrant. Though it doesn't look likely at this point. [antijinx, Please God let it really snow on me in Whistler]

does look have 130mm brakes?
I know that salomon, marker, & tyrolia do.
If the brakes work the ski rocks in the pow.

I recently had a similar problem trying to find a ski shop in Southern California that could mount Look P14s on a ski with a 110mm waist. I ended up having them mounted in a shop in Salt Lake City while on a ski trip there. The shop had to make some minor modifications to the binding mounting jig, and had to rebend the widest Look brake available in order to make the set up work. Good luck finding a shop in Whistler willing and able to mount your P14s on the Spatulas.
I'd try either Fanatyk, SnowCovers, or Wild Willies. Fanatyk had Spatulas in stock and the guys in there seemed knowledgeable and cool. SnowCovers had Solly S916s in stock (I bought the last pair :P), plus it seemed like a good shop too. Powder gives high marks to Wild Willies too, so try them also.

I realize that the brakes will have to be bent. I emailed Snowcovers last night telling them about my setup and asking if they could mount it. They said that they could. Does anyone have any experience with both Snowcovers and Fanatyk? Which one would you reccomend taking them to? I'm now leaning toward Fanatyk, since they stock them and it was said that someone saw a pair mounted there. Anyone else feel free to chime in.

That setup will definitely work, I have p12's on mine. The shop did a funky job bending the wide brakes (they're curved, not right angles), but it works.
Now you'll have to learn how to ski all over again, skiing the spatulas is way different than skiing a normal ski. Four straight days on them kicked my ass bad. But it was fun as hell.
Sounds like fun Ice. Now I have to hope that I get a day or 2 on the before Extremely Canadian and a day on them with EC. That way I could have them dialed and kill it big time with 'em. [antijinx]

I haven't had any ski work done at either shop. However, the staff seemed very knowledgeable when I was in both shops. I don't think you'll go wrong with either of them.Quote:

After watching lph on his, I emailed Shane and told him I wanted to give them a whirl. He's gonna get some to me. I got a feeling I'm gonna end up doing my best to talk him out of a pair.Quote:

I got my first day on them last Saturday. They're ridiculous. You have to get it into your mind to smear your turns... literally like spreading butter. If you try to carve, it's going to be unpleasent.
Yet they'll haul ass easily, yes? Verrrrry interesting......Quote:

Oh, they'll go, all right. But as Slim said, you have to slide them around. It's almost like the old "Bend Ze Knees" technique, you have to be dynamic and unweight the skis to come around, it uses much different muscles than you use while carving. Instead of setting the ski on edge and following it around you need to sort of push it out there. It's not hard to figure out, but man did it work me. [/epicski]
They definately will motor. However I feel much more comfortable hauling ass on my Rockets. The Spatulas are the ultimate Kirkwood ski... well for me anyway. They smear so easily as to set you up for the hucks, chutes, and variable terrain that Kirkwood is. For flat out hauling ass... I'd pick up something else... for taking advantage of the playground that is Kirkwood, I don't think you can do any better than the Spatula.Quote:

damn....I want a pair (spatulas) now....
lph and I have identical boot sole lenghts so last run of the day we swapped...I tried the spatulas...and he tried the NKO's. Conditions were bumps, flat light, crud, some hardpack on the steeps.....everything but powder....run them down the side of oops through dan cliffs.
hard to tell from one run...but damn I see the potential....
...even in variable terrain, they rock. They're surpringsly quick edge-to-edge because all you have to do is pivot....just worry about what's directly under foot and forget about the tip & tail.
...the coolest part was skiing a short, concave chute. If I had been on my NKO's, the tips and tails would have gotten caught on the fringes of the chute with the waist of the ski kinda hanging in the air. Whereas the reverse sidecut of the spatula "contoured" to the concave shape of the chute perfectly....it was really cool.
Took a small little air on them....and wow, what a landing platform.
...can't imagine how sicko they'd be in pow.
...maybe next year fo me. :)
Yeah, I'm hoping to try them out on some windlips and other fun terrain features in Whistler. I drool at the possibilities of what i could with 2 feet of new snow and some funky natural terrain, side slide off drops, then 270 in the air. Mmmmmmmm, pray for snow for me in Whistler [antijinx]

Time to let the secret out...
Well, not exactly secret. There's about 5 pairs on ebay right now. I just bought one for $398.88. I was the only bidder. I paid for them on Wednesday and they got here today. The guy has a 5 star rating (the best) and sent me the following email.
"If you have any other friends who want Spatulas, I have more selling for $400 and they don’t necessarily have to go through ebay. And I usually ship the same day I receive payment."

I know it's a bit overkill since I have the Gotamas, but I've been able to semi slide my turns on those babies and after talking to lph I wanted to experience the real deal.

Groomers no problem. Go full sideways at max velocity. Ski through trees without fear of tip hookup. Ski as fast as you want where ever you want, because you can always scrub a bit of speed, "like buttah, baby"
Mostly, relax mind and be creative. These things are too much fun.
heh, "ski full sideways" is right on, the best way I found to navigate cat tracks, etc., was to turn 'em a l'il bit sideways and just let 'em go. Thirty MPH sideslips, pretty interesting.
But, beware of trying to run a flat ski on the flats, if you get on the inside edges, that's bigbig trouble real quick.
