My season's over (ACL)
I'm pretty sure it's ACL, anyway. Right knee this time, left last time, so I know what it feels like. Ended my season at 10:30 this morning taking a practice skierX run, got thrown flat (and back) off an impossibly abrupt roller at the top of the course. My friend (Toby, who won it two weeks ago) had warned the course people earlier in the day that someone was going to get injured on that roller, but they didn't want to hear about it.
So I'm pretty sure I'm done.
Should I be trying to move it through as much range of motion as possible (which isn't much), or just wait to see what the ortho says tomorrow?
Sorry, mags, I'm gonna miss skiing with you guys (and just skiing at all).
-
Shite! And "holy deja vu." This sounds so like what Big E posted a bunch of weeks ago.
Here's hoping for the best...
Sick and ashamed and happy (and, if you're seeing an ortho as early as tomorrow, I wouldn't push anything too much),

Damn Dex I'm really sorry to hear that. Keep your hopes up until you see the doc, it might be not as bad as it feels/seems... stranger things have happened.
-
Dex just ice and elevation buddy. Don't mess with it. Do your best to get the swelling down, take some meds if you have them available. Wait to see what the Doc says after he does the McM-test. Hopefully it isn't a complete tear. I feel for ya. Hang in there. :)
-
Damn, that sucks. Too many Maggots going down (slow pitch, and not doing it in a good way :) ).
Here's my best wishes for good news from the docs and a quick return to snow.
-
good luck mang. sorry to hear it...maybe it's not? eh?
-
Yeah, eh, I hope you (optimistic) guys are right...it just feels awfully similar to the last one, and I had that funny swelling afterwards (before it all just ballooned up) with the pronounced bumps coming out of the top and bottom sides of the kneecap.
I really hope I'm wrong and it's not ACL, but whatever it is it ain't good.
-
Hoping for the best dex. Good luck mang.
-
fuck mang. funny bumps is no good. ice that mutha!
-
That's shitty Dex, I'm sorry. That blows. Hope you heal up and get better soon. Hopefully it's not as bad as you think.
Edit: I'm trying to stay close with the lord.
-
Good luck, Dex. We'll be thinking of you.

Edit: This is Jayfrizzo, but Tuffy says good luck, too.

edit for blurred and everyone else...

What the crap is it with all the maggot knee injuries in the last 12 months?
Really sorry to hear about your accident, Dex.
TJ's right. There's no point in working your knee or screwing around with it--just wait 'til you see the doc. Nothing you do between now and then is going to help it.
When I tore mine I was so pissed that I couldn't have that split second back. It seemed so unfair that a single moment could screw so many things up. But mine was just an ACL...I'm sure Particle has a whole different take.
Here's hoping your self-diagnosis is wrong.
-
Hey Dex- sorry that I can't offer you an good advice... just hoping for the best for you. :(
-
Hope its not that bad. Let's just hope that your body let you off with a warning this time.
-
Sorry to hear it. My Doctor told me my season was over when I hurt myself last feb. I was back for the last couple weeks though. My injury wasnt an ACL though...hope its not as bad as it feels.
-
Sorry to hear that Dex... Some bad karma in the East this weekend. Hope for the best.
-
Sorry dex.....sucks to hear about this stuff....
-
damn...I'm hoping for the best for ya Dex.

Shit! That sucks, Dex. Self-diagnosis is useless when it happens the first time. Somehow, when it happens again, you just know. That said, we're all hoping it's something less.
If you're seeing an ortho in a day or two, I'd just RICE it and not worry about range of motion. That said, it took me a week to get in to see someone, and I was still hobbling around pretty bad then. He said to work on keeping it straight, not bent, and after about a day I was walking normally.
Course, now I'm limping around pretty good, 13 days post-op, but it's improving, and the strength has come along way better this time than last.
Good luck, mang.
-
dude that sucks wicked bad.
-
Ouch, sorry to hear that! Here's to a speedy recovery from whatever it may turn out to be.
-
That really sucks. Hope it's not as bad as it looks.
Anyway, I'd also say don't mess with range of motion until you know what's wrong. If you have a torn meniscus or something and are forcing it you could be causing further damage. I'd say stay off of it if it hurts and get a real diagnosis ASAP. Just ice and elevate in the meantime.
Heal up quick!
