Tonight, I’m stealing my first automobile, advice

So some ahole rear ended my wrx 2 months ago. Clearly at fault, her insurance is paying, and they sent me to a chain of body shops 6 weeks ago.

From the moment I dropped it off I had a bad feeling. They said it would take them two,weeks just to tell me what the car needs?

5;weeks later they say they are waiting on a rear bumper. I got the part number from them and found one. I drove down and gave them info and offered to pay the freight. They did nothing.

They already fucked my first ski trip, and they will not fuck my second, I am stealing the car back some night this week, taking it to my Subaru dealer and gonna pay the $750 myself,
That is if they don’t bury it in their lot.

It’s my car, nothing saying I can’t fucking take it home? Tell them and the insurance company to go punt.

I’ll go pro it for everyone in case it involves high drama, violence, or the police, i promise I’ll post it.

Yeah, walk in the front door and tell them to give you the keys and call you when they have the parts and you are scheduled?

Have they done the estimate? Tell your adjuster you want a check. I'm assuming this is one of those Approved Body Shop deals where the insurer just says, "Drop it off at Jimmy Fuck Sticks he'll take care of it"? Resist this type of relationship as you have no agency or leverage. Deal with an independent.

Th inspection was 6 weeks ago, I could have told them I needed a new bumper. It’s back ordered from Subaru now, and I believe they waited all this time to order it.

I have just asked them to put the old bumper back on, he offfered that last week, but they never follow through with what they say.

If they say no, I’m not warning them. I’ll call the next day and ask for key fob and old bumper.

I am in perfect communication with the insurance company, and they are pissed off too. My goal is to see them lose this entire acct. Scumbags.

Have they fixed anything on your car yet? Is your car paid for or do you have a loan?

If they haven't fixed anything, tell them you are coming to pick it up and tell insurance to write you a check.

If they have done other repairs tell the other person's insurance you need your rental extended due to their recommended shop's incompetence.

This is the problem, I need a 4 x 4 or good tires for two weeks in Co.. I own it out right, and they fixed the bent exhaust and a body panel. Just waiting in rear bumper cover. 200 bucks!

I’m willing to pay the up charge on the rental, but everyone I speak to is just concerned with their own business. Fuck, even my own State Farm agent tried ducking me filing the claim with them.

Yeah if the old bumper cover is at all usable, tell them to slap it back on and call you when they have the new one.

I feel you on the incompetence and lack of communication. When Mrs. Snowaddict's car was totaled this summer, out of both ins companies and all their different departments there was only one person we dealt with that knew how to communicate with a customer.

For what it's worth, I've talked to several people lately who have had long delays waiting for parts at body shops. Your situation sucks but it is far from unique.

Just kinda sounds like a bit of nonchalence regarding the schedule and "I need my whip, bro!" and I get that. And maybe you are not raging like the way you are internet raging.

As mentioned above, it doesn't seem complicated. Who even cares about the bumper cover. Take the advice above.

I'll throw a should out for Progressive. I've got this stupid expensive commerical insurance on my work truck because it covers materials I may be hauling for customers (like $50k of hardwood flooring for example). Over the last couple of years, its been a bit of a battering ram in the shop three times. It has been not big deal admin and money wise. Direct contact with an adjuster, good comms with the body shop and so on.

I have no, problem with that, but they tried snowing me the day I showed up. They were so bad at it, that the manager actually called me to apologize.

It’s game, they get you in for a nothing inspection just to get the business. Then they take your car apart and leave it that way so your fucked.

I found the part and offered to pay the freight. The guy says to me, what if it gets damaged? Which means he won’t even take a Chance ordering it.

I left about 10 messages between insurance co and garage. I told them straight up, put th bumper back on.

If not, Im stealing the car before they bury it in the lot. I’ll then call them and ask for the old bumper. I’ll leave it at my Subaru dealership.

Far too many red flags up front for me to have left my car with them.

Going to the repair shop of their choice was not the best call, eh?

I see Subarus driving around all the time without bumper covers, just go for it.

Then they shouldnt take possession of the car until they are ready to,work on it. That’s what the insurance company told me, they are paying for my shitty rental.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if they've done any work on the vehicle, they now have a mechanics lien on it. It operates similarly to a loan. You can't do shit with the title till it's settled. If you "steal" the car back if wholly expect your insurance to drop you and once that happens you'll be in small claims for the cost of the repairs already completed.

All of that seems like type 2 fun.

Usually you have a choice if the vehicle is driveable. They do a non distructive visual estimate and tell you that they may not get it totally right and may need to order more parts. You get the whip back.

Or they tear it apart and keep it.

And yes. If you double down with these shit bags, expect that it will go south.

My friends who owned a shop didn’t file liens as a matter of practice, only on the deadbeat cars. But they didn’t have to be in possession of the vehicle to do it. So cono steals his car, they file a lien, and if they've done any unpaid work, they'll seek a theft of services charge. In my state the threshold is $750 to bump it up to 2nd degree theft (which is easy for a shop to claim).

I’m not a lawyer, and this may vary by state, but I think doing work just means they are entitled to a mechanics lien not that they have filed one much less begun enforcement.

It ain’t rage, fuckers had the car almost 6 weeks, it was perfectly drivable. And I need that car for almost all my skiing.

Turns out, the insurance company told him where to order it, six fucking weeks after getting it. But he has no idea when it’s coming in.

I made one last plea to put to stupid bumper cover back on. Offered to pay him for the,1/2man hr. Otherwise I’m stealing it.

Mechanic lien? Good point, I believe the ins co would pay him anyway, but lol they can sue me. I’m no rookie at that. Plus I have my Subaru parts guy who can’t believe they didn’t order it through him when he fucking has one.
