Petty Revenge - Help Needed

I live on a residential street but across from me a renovation company opened up in what had been a daycare facility.

They added a dumpster to the corner which collects graffiti in addition to the doors, windows and mirrors they drop in there every day.

They seem to think calling for pickups overnight is fine. but, despite being illegal, i get the hydraulics of the truck in my ear a few feet away to warn me of the sound of shattering glass that’s about to come in another few seconds.

this can happen between 3-5 am, and it sort of feels like waking up to a bus crashing through your house

cops don’t care
waste management doesn’t care (well, they apologize and assure me it won’t happen again every time)
the company seethes with rage when i suggest adjusting their behavior to comply with the law


now i am going to move. since burning the building down would sadly impact the lovely neighbors upstairs, what else might i do to get comeuppance here for a cromulent revenge?

Ask Lionel Hutz Esq to write a cease & desist letter. Tie it to a brick & throw it through their front window.

Chain the dumpster to something

Get cones, signage and tape off the dumpster

Make fake city docs and mail to the company.

What's the end game? Try to get them stop or just engage in pettyness?

If stop, what is the law they are breaking? I assume some type of noise ordinance? What can work is lighting up the civic servants in front of the elected officials. Do document what you easily can, photos, phone calls etc. and then get on the agenda at the appropriate public meeting.

If revenge/prank etc. I'd think you'd do best hitting the busy owner in the pocket book. Perhaps advertise on Facebook/Craigs/whatever that their is a free dumpster and get that bitch filled up.

The members of this forum are usually sources of excellent advice and information. This thread proves my point. These are all fantastic suggestions and each would provide the OP with a lifetime of memories and laughs. Keep up the good work everybody. I like the idea of a dumpster fire. The dog shit on the doorknob is pretty good also.

Interesting. How does a company keep from being robbed when everyone knows to expect loud sounds in the night from their building? If they have alarms, do you have a pellet gun? Or the brick probably works, too.

If you weren't moving out anyway, I'd just suggest canceling your own trash pickup service, and chuck all your own trash into that free dumpster.

You could put a Craigslist ad for free dumping in that dumpster, list the address.

I once saw a wedged mattress create all kinds of pissed off. No amount of dumpster shaking got it loose. And, you're moving so maybe it's time for a new bed.

My house backs up to a commercial space with restaurants and stuff, so the 3-5AM garbage trucks and used grease pick ups get pretty old. While not exactly a "revenge," it's why I feel zero remorse to take full advantage of using their dumpsters whenever I damn well please. I feel your pain, though. "BOOM! CLANG! CLANG CLANG! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!"..."BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!"

I would just take a chil pill and move on. What could possible go wrong with some "petty" revenge.

I highly doubt the reno company is calling for a pull at a specific time.

It’s the waste companies bullshit….. the 3am pull works for that drivers route…

You’re fighting an uphill battle, but you can instill some change. Some petty revenge is not the move. Get the phone number of the area manager for the waste company and whomever runs the day-to-day out of that reno office. Everytime it wakes you up, shoot them both a text. Follow with a call mid morning. You have to bother them enough to actually direct a change which will be inefficient for the driver…

A screenshot of a decibel meter app reading and a snip from the local noise ordinance would help sink the point in…

Agreed that it's a losing battle, and it does suck that you're moving over this, but maybe lock it closed? Understand the reno co and waste people are going to know it's you though..

waste management is a big fish but i wouldn’t mind doing something to the disgusting owner couple. i assume they already have crabs. don’t just want to key a car…

hmmm anything with the dumpster does point back to me and my garbage pickup is paid by my millions of pesos of taxes, they just don’t want to outfit me with the peace of mind i’m entitled under the law.

the reno company sucks because they have listened to my complaints and told me to fuck off.

wm sucks because they have agreed to change the route four previous times but when there’s a new route manager or whatever they just make it the first stop again.


i hope you are all unblocked now.

I think repeated posting on CL for free dumpster dumping is the No cost way to inflict maximum annoyance if a bunch of yahoos start filling it and costing them extra disposal. Or find some gnarly cans of hazardous waste, toss them into it and then report them for dumping hazardous chemicals. I’d def be looking to see if the dumpster violates any codes by being there 24/7 and report frequently. And as always, dogshit under the door handles

This. Code Enforcement. They actually have a budget and staff for this stuff. At least here they do.
