The weird thing about winning a car is that it can be a curse if you don't have much money. Contrary to what I had assumed growing up, there's no "cash option" on TPIR - you must take the car, or forfeit it. And you have to pay CA tax on full MSRP up front.
Not as much of a buzz kill as winning a 1979 Renault Le Car!

Scrolling through, there were some fun cars on that show bitd.
'83 RX7, '85 Ferrari 308, '89 Porsche 944, '79 280Z
Ended up reading his wiki. Didn’t see the wildcat and Corsair.
But he grew up on rosebud Lakota Sioux Rez. That’s trippy.
He also gave away a lot of money for animal rights. But didn’t see anything related to Native American activists or charities. I hope he did.
Also. Forgot about truth or consequences. That was an interesting show.
Barker was a freshman Naval Airman with carrier qual, and would've seen action in the Pacific, but the war ended. He's quipped that Japan gave up when they heard he was coming. After his hitch was up he went back to college, and the rest is history.
He would have been old enough to see action, age wise. Curious how he missed out
My guess is that he was still technically enrolled in college? And flight training from ab initio to aircraft carrier fighter pilot does take more time than some of the other assignments. Or maybe they kept him stateside to play basketball?!
So how many of his TV spokesmodel thingies do you suppose he bedded? And how many 2-3 at a time? RIP Bob!
