Probably should have started this a couple years back with that gomer boyscout group in Goblin Valley, UT, but the three assholes in Nevada with the pupfish and now this? I feel like we should have an ongoing thread to hang our heads in disbelief...

Saw that. The national parks are beautiful places filled with a stunningly high concentration of stupidity. I was at Arches the other day watching some shirtless coloradbros roughhouse each other in between elderly people with trekking poles on the lip of the perhaps 50' fall near the top of the delicate arch trail (where I was taking my rather tottery mother in law, who would not have been able to recover from an accidental brobump). I'm sure if there was any wildlife in the desert we'd have the same behavior toward animals in Utah also.

Not sure what the solution is except possibly public execution... but every time I end up at one of the parks I find myself rooting for someone to fall to their death. On the very same hike to delicate arch, we saw a guy climb out on a maybe 6" thick ledge of sandstone over another maybe 40-50' (iow potentially fatal) drop in order to get an EPIC SELFIE, BRUH. Just got lucky it didn't crumble. I've not been to Yellowstone/GTNP but it seems even worse there. Aside from limiting daily traffic and increasing ranger staffing - something neither in the purpose nor likely in the budget of the NPS - I'm not sure what to do. But I sure keep hoping some of these people get their poetically just desserts...

Yellowstone/GTNP is notorious for the touron. Probably the worst in the park system.

I have a buddy that used to work for the NPS and he would get a monthly internal newsletter regarding accidents and the like. He would send me excerpts of it sometimes and it was simply dumbfounding.

Another Yellowstone one. When I was in college on a geology trip we were staying in a large group campsite next to a terrible boyscout group from somewhere in the south based on their accents. They were just running around everywhere unsupervised like a bunch of feral cats. One of the turd kids was bitching about how he got into trouble for washing his hair in a stream that ran near the campground. He couldn't understand why he was in trouble because he used "Herbal Essences" shampoo and it was "natural". The ranger caught him and cited the troop. Fucking boyscouts.

The Grand Canyon is up there too.

The boy scouts are notorious for getting themselves in trouble for doing stupid shit.

No mention of the foreigners putting a buffalo calf in their Suv and dropping it at Ranger Station and getting themselves fined and the calf shot cause momma rejected it after human contact. Or dudes walking out on Grand prismatic the other day? Any semblance of rational thought leaves when people drive through the gates of national parks/monuments.

Bison are very particular about their young. If a human gets between a mother and her calf, it could cause her to reject her own offspring. After retrieving the baby bison from the tourists, park rangers did try to reunite it with its mom.
"These efforts failed," park officials said. "The bison calf was later euthanized because it was abandoned and causing a dangerous situation by continually approaching people and cars along the roadway."
