Ive rocked these to all my interviews, without a tie. Button down shirt with a sweater.
Although, I think it really comes down to do you look presentable. Any company that would deny you because you didnt have a sport coat on probably sucks to work for in the first place.

depends on what type of job it's for I would say. To me the type of job dictates acceptable attire for said interview.
You're fine with the sweater / tie combo. Add a cummerbund if you're feeling under dressed.
probably not a christmas sweater this close to valentines day.

You're pretty fit, right (crossfit thread? Ultra marathon)? This gives you a lot of leeway. If you're fat, you'd best have a well tailored suit. If you're in good shape, and your hair and facial hair are under control you should be ok, depending on the organization your interviewing with. Know anyone who works there you could ask?

Ask whoever granted you the interview what the dress code is.
i would wear a jacket to the interview. If your jacket is outdated, get a new blue sport jacket. You need one, everyone does, and a sportscoat and tie is versatile in most occasions, even if you dont own a nice suit.
Your hesitation is probably your good instincts kicking in.
How bad do you want the job?
I'd think if it were a very small laid back company working out of someones house/small office setting sweater would be ok. A real office setting requires a suit IMHO or at minimum nice shoes, pants, shirt, tie & coat. Buy the coat, they're inexpensive enough.

This totally depends on the job. I wear a suit to work about two days per month. But if someone showed up to interview with me and did not either (1) wear a suit, or (2) call me, ask if I'd like him/her to wear a suit and hear me say "Hell, no, we only wear suits when we aboslutley have to," I would have serious qauestions about either (1) their judgment or (2) how badly they wanted the job, and I'm not hiring people who have bad judgment or who don't really want to work here.
Have to agree with MMP - sport coat and tie makes the most sense to me especially if you're after a customer-facing position, but even if you're not.
FWIW (not much) I've been managing NE teams for quite a while, and what I'm ultimately looking for is someone that is capable of more than the position for which I'm hiring ...
