not a stout freak now, but used to be some years ago.

Rogue Chocolate stout is quite solid, though. Young's is quite tasty as well.

If I was going for a stout, I would lean toward the coffee end, but Mrs. grape prefers the chocolates. Which I can do too, but one glass of stout is enough for me, then on to something else.

where did you find Clown Shoes? Never heard of it. I live nearby. Do most beer shopping at brewtopia. Do they have this?

i love a good oatmeal stout. our local brewery makes a "hippy highway" oatmeal stout that is amazing.

Yetis are awesome, they do some interesting variations at the brewery. Stone RIS is my favorite, and oaskars ten fidy is perfect for a nice slow FG lift ride. And the old hometown standard Rasputin will always hold a special place in my heart.

Magic Hat (I know, they jumped the shark a decade ago) recently re-released Heart of Darkness. HoD was my favorite of their brews pre-(going to shit). I have drank a few recently that did not disappoint. Great sessionable oatmeal stout.

Same for me in general, but there are good "session" stouts. I'd say Guinness is the definitive example.

Agreed, Ginnness and murphys go down smooth, and I can ( and have) had a few of them

Been enjoying Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout lately. Super tasty.
Have some Yetis in the fridge, one is an espresso aged. Looking forward to getting into them. Might have to have that one for breakfast on Christmas.

while we're talking about stout, what is the consensus?

Does Guinness taste different in Ireland? Or is that just BS?
(I have an opinion, but want to hear what others think.)

Their Maple Chocolate Stout was pretty good. Not sure if it is bottled I grabbed a growler at the brewery and it went quickly.

deschutes obsidian is our staple. life is not going so great if there isn't at least one in the fridge. even better when we can get it on nitro, but that doesn't happen unless we're out of state... i've talked to deschutes employees before and found out that we aren't the only ones in this world who drink this as a breakfast beverage more than once a week... i haven't found any other stout to come close to being as yummy. 49th state brewery does a decent stout on nitro, but they don't bottle. i think youngs is flat and kind of bitter, guinness is ok on tap, but horrid in a bottle/can, even with the widget thing. still meh i think. though guinness has a much better chance of being skunked by the time it gets here. Nogn O has a stout, but the porter is much better. only brand where i prefer the porter... alaskan oatmeal stout is lame, IMO. Dick's cream stout is decently smooth. it's been a while since we taste-tested all the stouts at the beer store...

All of those look so delicious - all I can get out here is Murphy's and Guiness. Don't get me wrong, I love those two, but I also like variety, which this country doesn't fucking appreciate.

I couldn't tell a difference in the Guinness when I was in Ireland. What was interesting is that most young folks in Ireland were drinking Budweiser and Jack Daniels or a cider.

One of the local pubs used to have Murphies on tap but switched to Guinness to appease the ignorant masses :nonono2:.

Variety rocks.

Stout is good.

Old Rasputin...reasonably priced and available at Vons in Mammoth.

I'm diggin the stouts this time of year. Old Rasputin is reliable and available. Been spending some quality time with Bell's Expedition and SN Narwhal lately too....

...need to pick up some founders breakfast stout soon...

Hoarding a bottle of 2011 bourbon county. Need to drink that soon.

For those that like Guinness and Murphys you should check out Beamish.

Brooklyn Chocolate Stout is really good.

I like Sierra Nevada stout if I get it fresh.
