If someone was driving up early and heading back down by say, 8:30-9-ish, I could copilot.
Plus I have tons of work to do, may have to wait until the weekend.
save some for the rest of us.
Maybe if my kid was not sick.. I'm splitting the taking care of duty. What about Friday or Saturday? With my brother having the baby I need to find others to ski with.
Me! Me! Can a lurking/knuckledragging newbie come along? I have backcountry gear and a strong desire to learn from those more experienced than me. I have the day off tommorrow and no one to ski with. I'd love to make some AM turns somewhere where bootpacks rule. Berthoud perhaps?
iski - we actually met in the lot at Berthoud a few weekends ago. Let me know if it be cool to join up with you and I'll be there. Otherwise it's dodging racers at Copper for me.
I have the day off, what were you thinking, BP or somewhere else? I was in butler on monday but was not impressed with the conditions or snowpack stability for that matter. Let me know.
Hey, I'm going to Berthoud at 6:00 am. I guess your thinking of sleeping in a bit?
I haven't seen you in a while. Sack up for the 36. Are you tough enough? :fmicon: :DQuote:

Powfarmer, you should come up as well. I'm planning on being up there for most of the day, so give me a time and I'll look for you.

Care to share any more specifics on what you saw snowpack-wise in BG? And where in BG you found those conditions. I got some beta from the weekend that indicated favorable conditions...but realize there's a lot of area and independent of that spatial variability is a real issue. So, curious what and where you found. Thanks!Quote:

I was in the upper portion of the gulch, actually probably in the worst place for wind load and such. I went to the top of the switch backs and then continued on straight untill I saw a skiable line from the ridge on the south. Once on pitch I dug a pit in a sage area with about a 25 deg. sloop north to north east aspect. I actaully really felt comfertable with the lower 16 inches of a 36 inch pit. No depth hoar, great bonding etc. At around 16 inches there was a semi slab that seemed to bond well with the upper pack. The upper pack is where I saw problems. From 16 inches till around 28 or so it was un consolidated crystalized snow which was less than palm dense. There was no adhesion(sp) within this layer. Above that was a nasty wind slab that was shearing anywhere on the unconsolidated layer. Just what i saw, and like said, it was a bad area, but the ridge is above almost all the center gullies at BG.Quote:

We'll be back up at Berthoud Saturday morning. 6:00 am on the top of the pass.
Vijay and I dug a pit up there just above treeline 3/4 weeks ago and found a really bomber pack. It had some cool layers in it almost equally spaced but all bonding well. Looked like a history of the weather with all the nicely spaced snowstorms we had. Then that last storma passed us by and I was so worried that it would deteriorate. Snowing again now, but it'll be interesting to see the how the interface, um interfaces. heheQuote:
