What do most companies pay for this? Is there a gov't rate? I vaguely remember something like $0.37 per mile when I lived in AK, but that was 2002 and might be for something completely different.

I thought .35 was the going rate.
I get $0.43/km now, anyone I've talked to in the US in the past has been getting roughly the same/mile as I get per km.
My company is a government contractor and our current mileage rate is $.375.
i get $0.38/mile non-gov
HomerJ is correct - the IRS sets the gov't rate, and I was recently told by one of my employers that it is $0.37/mile.
$.37 here.
cool thanks. does anyone know of a link to a document that might have that written out? I tried searching the opm.gov sites but no luck.
This is for a govt contract.
IRS site. This is for 2003 though, didn't see if it went up in '04.Quote:

Anybody lower?
I get $.375/mile.
I've been doing payroll at work lately and that's what we pay. Very small private company - less than 20 people.Quote:

31 cents and I have asked why we are not at IRS standards and get the BS runaround. That is a significant difference. Brought it up several times.Quote:

If you track the mileage you should be able to deduct the difference on your personal return. I highly doubt that there is anything illegal about it. The govt rate is set by the IRS each year and is adjusted for things like gas price and the like. It is $ .375/ mile currently.Quote:

Sniffing the seat are we? Good thing it didn't smell like tuna.Quote:

My state pays $0.32/mile if you have a non-availability slip, which state no pool car was available. If you don't have a non-availability slip then the rate is $0.22/mile.
My union conducted a study and found that the actual cost of using your own vehicle for buisness is actuall closer to $0.65/mile. This cost is for a SUV.
