because I know nothing about twintips

So, after (little) debate, I'm spending what little cash I managed to make this summer and not spend on school on new skis. And a friend of mine is pressuring me into getting twintips, although I really haven't been much of a park/jibbing person, but I suppose I'm up for anything. I still want a ski that I can have fun on when I'm not in the park, because, uh, I don't plan on spending all my time in the park. Anyway, the ski he keeps pressing on me are 4FRNT. Anyone care to give an unbiased opinion?

I have actually skied a pair of 4FRNTs, so I am pretty qualified to give my opinion here. I don't know much about you as a skier... but I don't know if i would recommend getting a pair of 4FRNTs as your first twin. They really aren't very forgiving at all. Also, this is their first year of ever being in production, and they may have some kinks to work out. Basically, these skis are incredibly stiff for a park ski, with decent all-mountain capabilities. They are a stable landing platform for sure, but they are tanks. They aren't easy to turn.

I would recommend checking out some Atomic big mountain twins if I were you. Also, look at the Head Mojo Madtrix. In fact, look at the Madtrix first, because they are not only the sweetest all-mountain twin on the market (in my opinion) but they don't have the Atomic binding system. Buy Look bindings for the skis. Preferably P14s. Then send the skis and bindings to me. ;)

dude either your friend is a moron, or isnt really your friend because he doesnt know anything about you. If you dont spend time in the park why would you buy a park ski? If your into off-roading, im not gonna reccomend you get a BMW with a ground clearance of 3 inches, or if your into road biking im not going to go tell you to buy a full suspension downhill bike, you know?

Sounds to me like your friend is just trying to get you to support a local company or whatever which is cool and all but if they arent the right skis for you than dont buy them. There are plenty of skis that allow you to have fun on on the trails or wherever it is you ski, and occasionally hit some kickers in the park. If it were me i'd go check out some websites of dif brands of skis and go check out your local stores. If your pressed for money check out the ski-swaps that your local mountain is probably having. You dont have to spend top dollar to get skis to just have fun on.

If you can't ski a park ski out of the park, then maybe you shouldn't be out of the park (in general). Pretty much any twip tip skis all over the mountain fine. Some are softer than others, so you have to decide if you want a stiff or soft ski. The advantages of park skis are that they are light, maneuverable, and relatively cheap. Major disadvantage is loss of stability and edge grip. I really don't see a problem with using a park ski as an all mountain ski.

Twin tips are very nice in tight situations when you have to backpedal out. You might look at the volkl v-=pro, it's a very good all mtn. ski that happens to be twin tip. My 195 Rockets are twins, does that make them park skis? Does the twin affect their performance out of the park at all? Nope. But is it nice to have every so often? yep

Agreed. Shorter twin tips also make great bump skis.

My theory on the whole thing is 1. he now works for a ski shop that specializes in park skis and is being an annoying sales person, 2. I live in Edmonton, 4hrs away from the mountains, therefore anyone who skis here are all just into park 3. he has some weird theory that since I can ski decently and here there are really no females in parks if I were to transform into park I would get sponsered or something, which is not what I'm looking for, but at any rate I'm his new project.

I'm still thinking I'm going to pass on twins though. unless I can get a super cheap pair. My big goals for this season was to try some bigger stuff and maybe edge into backcountry, which sounds like more fun anyhow.

Not to go against the wise ol Phunk, but you dont think a pair of Head's racing sticks would carve a hell of a lot better, then some mad trix on some groomers??

Yes. Yes, they probably would. Then again, who gives a fuck about carving on groomers? ;)

and random: backcountry is a LOT more fun... but if you mean backcountry as in real backcountry, make sure you get some knowledge before you go out there. There aren't enough female skiers, so we can't afford to lose any. ;)

I agree with you on that one, but I was just pointing out that not all twintips ski like center-mounted Lines. Some of them can tear up the hardpack just as well as a company's non-twins. And those MadTrix will still seriously tear it up.

I have to admit that I'm disappointed the new explosive has a straight tail...

I just saw (and flexed) the 2004 Line Mothership. Pretty looking ski as far as overall proportions go. And not a noodle, imo. I'll certainly demo it if I get a chance.

Word to all the comments in here about twin tips getting really sweet and the fuck the groomers campaign.. ;)

Personally, I love skiing the whole mountain on twins, and wouldnt have it any other way..
