DAMN, DAMN, DAMN, DAMN...THE CRAP HAS HIT THE FAN.

and it hit the fans hard this time folkds. ok, make a long story short, here's the short edition to this sucky saga:

Shootin' pool and darts at the bar last night wit some buds and chicks. few too many vodkas and cokes and then the next thing i know is im riding down the middle of main streeet on a motorcycle. don't have a license for a motocycle, but have a drivers license. i was on the back of the cycle and my boy J-Bo was drivin'. it was his cousins bike but he doiesn't have a license to drive anything! No vehicle license, no bike license. were crusin down the street and Jbo looks back and sees red and blues flashin behind us. OH CRAPPOLA, THE COUNTY BOYS ARE AFTER US HE SHOUTED!

I look back and begin to shake. damn damn damn!!! i don't need this happening to me. ive gots a clean record and dont need none. cop pulls us over. JBO, no llicense gets hauled off in the cruiser. cop asks me if i am okay to drive home on the bike. i was way too wasted to even think about it. if i tell him im wasted, he takes me to jail i thought. i say, yes sir, i can drive the bike home. im all shaking and then the cops leave slowly, kinda waiting for me to get on the bike and make it home. im all nervous. only drivin dirt bikes in the hills of NY. never drivin a crotch rocket. start the bike up, make another check for the coppers and then slowly take off. holy crap it was weird driving this thing, for one i was wasted off vodkas, and the other i had no clue what was goin on. i drive 2 miels and make it home alright. when i get in to the yard i hit the cement steps that lead up to my ant's house with the bike. i fall off the bike and the bike gets all scratched from landing on the cement. oh crap. im dead. not even my bike. J-bo's cousin returns next weekend. do i get a paint job? how much? or do i just tell him what's up?

i feel like a dickweed right now. cant believe i even drove that sucker home. what would you all do?

Well, this probably doen't help you much, but fixing motorcycle body damage is usually suprisingly expensive.

You could fess up, and offer to pay the repair bill. That would probably be the honorable thing to do.

Leave out the part about the vodka, j-bo, and the country boys.

what's scratched? the fiberglass for the fairings, or the frame and gas tank (which are the only metal parts)?

also, did the rear-view mirrors survive the laying-down, or are they trashed too?

Well first off you sound/type very wasted right now. Why don't you drink some water, get some sleep, and leave a note reminding you to read this post when you sober up in the morning.

Frankly when the person that owns said japrocket comes to pick it up. If he bitch's then say this. "well I could have let the cops put it in the inpound yard" instead of making sure you atleast got the bike back.

Oh and carry a copy of your post in this thread with you wherever you go in the future. The next time you are about to pull a "stupidshit" move read it again just beforehand. :p

rear views are scratched, but still work as far as i know. mostly just paint that got the most damage on this bike. its just the fiberglass that got scatched for the body.

play it off, see how much j-bo remembers from the night and blame it on him.

by the way, probably the smartest thing to do would have been to tell the cops you didnt know how to ride the motorcycle / had no mc endorsement, but you only live 2 miles away and can walk just fine.

next question - is the fiberglass damaged, more than just scratched paint? when you touch it/tap on it, does it rattle around, like the mounts are broken? Is it dented in or snapped off in places, in any way?

josh is right, fiberglass is very expensive, esp. at dealer rates. Lockhart-Phillips sells replacement fiberglass, undrilled and unpainted, for discount but it's still in the realm of 600 bucks.

If the stuff's not damaged, just scratched, then you can repaint it/get it touched up no prob. Just you'll probably have to go to the dealer to get the exact shade of paint correct.

Mirrors are the first thing to take abuse from being put down. Make sure the glass isn't cracked or broken, and the mirror still travels along its adjustments properly.

Also, inspect the entire bike thoroughly for any damage, that wasn't there before.

Count yourself extremely lucky you didn't wreck the bike on the way home, or get zapped with a DUI. Both could have easily happened.:(

okay sorry for the delay in responding...i was watchin an intense scene in Mystic River with Sean Penn. after looking at it agian, the only damage is the paint it seems and the mirrors will porably need to be replaceed. theres a little spiderweb from a crack in the right side of the mirror. how much we talking with a paint job and mirrors? please dont tell me more than a hundred or two

well, mirror glass can easily be replaced, just go to a windshield shop and they should be able to cut a replacement to fit. But, that's ghetto-style, and it's possible the glass won't fit the mirror fairing entirely.

Mirrors are usually sold as an assembly, to avoid fit issues. This increases the cost. Look on ebay, and www.lpusa (that should be the lockhart-phillips website, if not just google the name and it should come up). They'll have quality aftermarket stuff, for a decent (ie, non-manufacturer and dealer) price.

Also check the exhaust can(s) for damage. They tend to take hits when put over on the side.

And yes, my momma was right. Motorcycles are the devil.

Maybe it was damaged before you dropped it. A new mirror (not the housing) for my truck was $40 CDN. There's always wreckers for parts. Any competent body shop can match the paint. Decals can be pricey if one is damaged.

thanks jetter man. your info is helful because i had no idea what to do wit this bike. was thinking about bringing it to the local shop and let them take care of it. i will check the exaust, hold on a minute or two....be right back

okay. the muffleer and exhuast system looks to be okay. dont really see any major damage or dents to the muffler. will look again in the morning after the hangover from tonight wears off.

splat--J-bo got out on bail this afternoon by his family. hes not doing so well since he doesnt have a well paying job at the moment and he has payments for a new sled to make. will talk to him tomorrow to see what charges are going to hit him and what types of fines

Consider the $$$ you'll pay to fix the bike a tax on idiocy.

Stick the cost to j-bo, he's the dumbass that probably stole it from his cousin to begin with. His cousin is going to be pissed at him for fucking it up more then you.

Look on the bright side man, at least you aren't dead and you didn't get thrown in the slammer. It's gonna suck to pay for the bike but you gotta do the right thing and get it fixed.

You're a moron, pay for the repairs and consider yourself extremely lucky.

These are some fairly benign mirrors, that look like they belong on just about anything. Your best bet would be to go to the dealer to buy the OEM mirrors, which probably would be more expensive than these, but if that's not an option just shop around on this site to see if you can find a good match. If they're not perfect, hey, like the site says, they're 1/2 the weight of the OEM mirrors and look pretty nice.

Just go up to the "Products" toolbar, select "Accessories", and shop around.

EDIT - they also have an "OEM-mirrors" section, that I didn't see earlier. You should be able to find new mirror assemblies there, they run about 30-40 bucks.

J-bo got home tonight. hes pissed about what happened. my boy will be serving some time maybe?? he got bailed out today. i aint driving no more. im taking my mtn bike to the bars for now on fellas:D . ok maybe not because the bar is several miles or so from the house

oh yeah a new mirror to go along with it but it wont be costing a whole lot.
