I'd say about 18" in the morning, then it started to settle when the temp spiked and the sun came out for a while.... It was about 12" when we left.... And we were on the bottom half of the mountain.
quiet week until thursday/friday time frame. thursday system looks moisture starved with something a bit more substantial for the weekend. its still too far out to tell. the other nice thing is that the cpc 6-10 and 8-14s were hinting at a pattern shift as of their friday runs with the westerlies punching through
wpfree.com has some good weather links ... check out the Snotel links and scroll to the bottom of the page and look at the snow depth column for current snow (about a 2 hour lag).
FYI ... Today, Winter Park 5.5" new on top of 4" on Thurs night ... there is currently a 22" base on the mid-mtn snow stake with a lot less in areas where the sun hits.
Check this out ...
At the TGR movie in Winter Park ... somebody will win a FREE day of SNOWCAT SKIING on Jones Pass from Powder Addiction ... it might as well be one of us.

Pretty fucking $$$$ up on Monarch today. Total fluff. Going back for seconds tomorrow!!!!!
It will most definitely dump over Thanksgiving week since I'll be out of town.
good snow on the N. side of Bowman's Shortcut yesterday - at least 2' in there
Waist-deep on Sunday in the S.S.J.s if you knew where to look.
Lots of good snow to be had, just follow your avi. protocol and be safe! The avi. danger was definetly in the "High" area yesterday, and that is not another one of my wise cracks.
Looks like a quiet week...some clouds and a flurry across the north on Thursday, but that's it. Pretty windy with clouds on Saturday with a cold front coming through Saturday night. This storm is taking a more northern route and will deal a glancing blow to Colorado, so most decent snow (3-6"?) will be along and north of I-70. A colder and more powerful storm will move from northwest to southeast across CO on Sunday night into Monday...this looks like a better storm for everyone except the San Juans.
I heart the sound of NorthWest!
Long term forecasts are a gigantic yawn.
I'd say the latter unless the MJO forecasted to develop somehow influences our weather.
When the forecasters use terms like large strengthening ridge over Rockies, I'm not overly optmistic. Then again, I usually don't think they can forecast that well out past 3 days.
it looked like a huge yawn and this last system formed so who knows. I'd expect yawnsville til Dec.
WFO PUB's afternoon 'cast said the EC was showing a whopper for SE Co from Monday to Wednesday, but it was an outlier...
Anyone know why Pitkin County airport reports Mostly Cloudy conditions every night even though it is definitely clear outside?
Do you mean the Aspen airport (ASE)? They reported "broken" cloud cover last night from about 7pm to 5am, which is defined as 50-70% cloud coverage of the sky. The clouds they reported had bases at 15,000ft above sea level and rose from there. Looking at the satellite from last night, there was some cloudiness that moved over during this time, so the observation is reasonable though I thought the clouds were higher than 15,000ft and didn't cover that much of the sky.
The night before, 17th-18th, ASE reported broken cloud cover but there were absolutely no clouds that night.
Good catch...maybe the sensor is broken? I'll email a guy I know with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction and maybe they'll have an answer or can look into it.
Ugh...not looking good for the next week (at least).
The Saturday afternoon storm could put down 0-3" north of I-70, but that's about it. The Sunday night/Monday storm is likely not going to be "the whopper" that the European model was predicting. Most likely just some light snow along and north of US 50, with maybe a few inches (at best) in the Elks and maybe 6ish up in the Park/Gore range. Still time for the storm to come in stronger/weaker than expected, but most models have been on a trend to weaken the next few storms, so I'm not holding my breath.
