WRG - one of the many things that is nice about getting out early, you get to enjoy very popular attractions all by yourself. I sat here all alone for about 45 minutes just listening to the water. It was serene.

I posted this in the fishing thread but I just wrapped up a few weeks of chasing the annual salmon fly hatch. Hatch came early this year but between the Big Hole, Madison, and Yellowstone I was able to get a few days in.
We played dawn patrol a couple of days ago and I was lucky enough to get this guy. Not the biggest I’ve seen taken on a salmon fly this year but any time you can break 20” on a dry, that’s a win.

Summer in Montana is special and I consider myself very fortunate to get to live/play here. Hopefully you all are enjoying it as well. : )

Forecast called for a decent sunset so I threw together a quick overnighter. Backpacking season for me has officially begun.

Agree with the two posts above. It is absolutely beautiful out there right now.
Kirby had his closest encounter with a billy the other morning.

Been pining to make this pilgrimage again
Jenks, can’t see your image?
Wife and I took the dogs up Teepee Creek for a walk today. No bears but absolutely beautiful out there. Too bad that area is closed during winter. That is primo meadow skipping terrain.

Decided to get up in the middle of the night and check out the stars. Dayumm!

What a weekend.
Hey swimmy, you using a star tracker for that? Asking because I just got one to mess around with/be aggravated with.
Hmm, no star tracker but I do look at the moon cycle as obviously that has an effect on star gazing.
For that I use photopills, which is an awesome app for so many things photography.
I did get lucky that there was not even a breathe of wind on the lake. The reflection super cool.
Yeah that reflection is perfect. Very nice image.
Thanks @yeahman!
I'm still learning nightscapes as I just don't have a lot of experience. See some of the pros blending images but I only shot one exposure here.
But I should get a LOT of opportunities this summer to improve with the trips I have planned and super stoked on it.
New home screen thx swimming!
Guess I was naïve in not realizing that Porcupine is a straight up commercial trail for the horse rides originating across the highway? We went to go for an MTB ride there this am (with the dog) and turned around after a 1/4 mile. I shit you not FIFTY horses passed us in multiple groups in both directions in like 10 minutes. Wow.
Trail must be in stellar shape. 320 to Porcupine used to be a classic. Same with Portal to Porcupine.
I’ve ridden Porcupine a few years ago and also encountered the horse tribe. We were able to lose them after a good bit.
Fifty horses is crazy! Should have ridden really fast and started yelling [emoji23]
Sent from my iPhone using TGR Forums
If we didn't have the dog with us we would have just boogied, but there were tourist horse rides going both direction on the trail and one of the ride leader/cowgirls was like, "Oh yeah they will be sending groups of us every few minutes all day long."
Trail is dunzo.
Public lands being taken over and trashed for the benefit of a couple of horse packers companies.
Looking at Trailforks it doesn't look like theres much of a modern mountain biking trail system around Bozeman other than whats up here at Big Sky. That seems odd to me.
Yeah it’s a Horses & Hikers > Moto > Cyclists crowd around most of MT, and that’s played into land access & management.Quote:
