Have watched the LCC come of age and then some.
Snowsheds under the frequent runners in the mid canyon are long overdue.
In yurp they woulda been installed in the mining days.
Those folks, those miners, our predecessors? Had more sheds than we do today, which is none.
When ya hadda dig the road out by hand...

That'd be one long ass shed.
Longer than all the sheds under the smaller frequent runners combined.

And the gondola? Woulda been installed in yurp long ago...

Went up for a few laps yesterday AM and enjoyed how fun the extremely wet snow was, for at least the first hour. By the final run we took around 11 it was manking up pretty fast. First couple after opening were smooth, surfy, fast and fun.

Was up there in 17 to look at the face. Climbed up from bottom, up onto the lower face, skied skiers L side in perfect pow, the chute below also in perfect pow. Cool to see.

I have some pics from a few groups doing it March/April, mainly just tracks down it. If I can ever post them I will.

The people before this dude, a week or two ago, I watched descend with binocs from my back yard and it was realllly painful to watch for many reasons. A couple weeks before them a few people left some big arcs on the face, it was beautiful. I have pics of those, I haven't checked if they turned out well though.

I need a bigger zoom, none of the pics are perfect.

The only timely solution to canyon cluster is to drastically increase bus service, while decreasing cars in the canyon. OBVIOUS for sure. A high toll at the mouth, for, say, less than 4 occupants per vehicle, might be the place to start. An HOV lane at the bottom with a "fast pass" reader for those who don't mind the toll. Also check more thoroughly for good snow tires there. Use the toll $$ to pay bus drivers better and attract more applicants.
As a Bird customer, I don't mind playing through ahead of Alta traffic. However, some sort of metering system at Snowbird could be implemented to give Alta skiers a chance of getting home before bedtime on busy days!

Ha...I'm not much of a social media person. When coming up with a user name, I just used my name followed by the summit elevation of Rainier. I climbed it as part of a guided group back when I didn't know anything about climbing, mountains, avalanches, yadda yadda. Always wanted to go back and do it un-guided.

Also had photos to post the night when the forum stuff got jacked up. They were up there for a few minutes, then didn't show up. Bummer.
Just waitin' to see if the posting pic function gets fixed.

Curious what your names are! Some of the current ones are better than others, I like the Noah Howell-named Hades but its hard to believe his run in 2017 was the first descent. It skied well several weeks ago! I spend a lot of time skiing Olympus and this year felt even more filled in than last year on a lot of the mountain. I skied a new (to me) line on a steep slab lookers right of Apollo this winter, we are calling it Artemis.

Have an Alta Parking Reservation for closing day that I won't be using since heading out of town - Yukonrider has first dibs if he still needs one (sent him a PM). PM me to get in line.

How big of a downer is LCC traffic for the season pass holders?

Strongly considering switching from IKON to Snowbird this season. I've skied LCC my whole life, but never as a season pass holder, so I'm no stranger to the red snake and commutes to/from on pow days measured in hours. Worried that dealing with it on a regular basis would become a drag or not getting to the 'bird before 8:30 on weekends means I can't find a parking spot.

Solitude on the other hand is a relative breeze to get to & reserve parking, and there's never lift lines. The tradeoff being that it's smaller, which can feel boring at times, and obviously doesn't have the lines/terrain/snow.

This would be my first year on the old man pass. $1075 for ALTA or $955 for Snowbird. Canyons is my home mountain, but I ski a lot in LCC...less in BCC. I was contemplating the same thing, but I decided to renew the IKON/EPIC passes. My thinking is along the lines that on a snow day there is a good chance that traffic will build up a block after the 7. If so, I can just make a u-Turn and head to Solitude. I'll still get my 7 days in at ALTA, and I will probably supplement with a Gold Card for $99. I don't ski in LCC/BCC on weekends.

This past season I got a season pass to Snowbird; first time getting a season pass since 2012 (mainly did backcountry). I mainly went every other Friday, sometimes on a Saturday or Sunday.

I took the bus; with 2 tiny kids, I was not able to just get up early and freely drive up to get a parking spot. Snowbird parking status on their website/app would show "green/empty" or "filling up" at 8-815am, then 5-10min later it would say full.

I consistently got on the 915am bus to head up from the 9400S/Highland bus station, and took the 215pm bus back down. This was partly due to helping with kids in the morning before I left, but also intentionally to avoid early morning traffic and afternoon traffic. With these time frames, the only traffic I was in was traffic going by the Bells Canyon trailhead due to the merge with LCC Rd, and it only added something like 5min. On Saturday/Sunday, I waited a little longer, catching whatever bus came at 1020-1050am, something like that. I still never got caught in traffic. But I never was skiing bell to bell because of my homelife situation, and did not want to risk getting home at 7-8pm, leaving my wife to handle 2 tiny kids for dinner and 1 of their bedtimes.

I had only 1 issue getting up canyon, on 1 Friday morning. There had been pow days, but for whatever reason, that particular Friday was busier. I got to the 9400S/Highland station at about 850am, and waited for 2 buses, both of which came by full and late. Other people had been waiting for 2.5hrs. After the 2nd full bus, I drove to the Historic Sandy Station, and got on the 1st one that came by.

If you do drive, you will certainly need to be arriving at Snowbird before 8-815am. It is not a stress that I want to add, as I already have a lot of stress at home. And arriving there at 8-815am will still give you stress, seeing a lot of cars already parked. You can still take the bus early in the 6am hour from Historic Sandy Station, then you'd be sitting up there for 2-2.5hrs before lifts start up at 9am.
