Freezing fog is a special treat.
I usually find Ullr is pretty cooperative when we come asking for freezing fog. Unless Skadi is feeling tropical, then it's just the smell of moist cedar and maybe hint of blue looking straight up to remind you the blindness and vertigo are real and not just a waking dream.
Hopefully she heads someplace warm soon and leaves us with a nice present like whenever 2Funky goes south. That's some reliable meteorology!
This just in from IPAC. The rain crust that's down about 75 cm is still prevalent with hoar under the crust well preserved. With an ECT of 21, it failed and propagated. Here's the link to the video as well as the link to the updated Considerable forecast issued today. Be careful out there.

Anybody else digging lately?
I don't want to start ranting about the dangerous snow pack, but it seems almost taylor-made to be dangerous in the BC this year. Almost glad someone slid Blue (and didn't die) as a reminder (except I think I know a few non-mag people that will hit it again anyway).
I'm just gonna x-quote this from Slide Zone:
Be fun: have safe!
Attachment 362138Looking like it’s gonna be cold on the hill this week!
glad I went up tue, no crowds, the best chalky carvalicious corduroy boulevards of the season with good friends in the sunny sparkly windless reasonably cold double digit temps
Pleasant ankle-deep blower at Silver today. High quality. Hidden gem you guys have out here.
Shhh go ski Schwiz; nothing to see at Silver!

Great snow for my first time at Jackass. Makes me almost wish we had footrests at Jackass N. They didn’t have enough staff today to run 4 unfortunately.

Yeah, 4 is clutch to offload pressure on 2 and 3!! Side note; top bottom chair 4 laps were all time this last week!! That fall line is great and pretty reasonable vertical descent!

They’ve used temp services in the past when staff gets low. Tough to keep folks around to bump chairs at $7.25/hour

Not really relevant for this winter, but has anyone here skied Phoenix Mountain BC?
Looks like a fun little hill, especially if one were to live in Ferry County.

^^ Hmm.. Never heard of it before. Might be kind of a fun little spot. Could be some good back country around it, too.
Cold one today at Silver. Late start due to winds/weather (Gondola didn’t open till 10am and lifts were later) and once again Chair 4 was closed, TNF glades were closed.. but almost nobody up there, skied straight onto the lift and found some goods in the trees off of Chair 2. Totally worth braving the cold! Attachment 362673
I was actually surprised at how many cars were in the lot.
Wonder why TNFG were closed, that seems odd. The closing of 4 better not be the mid week norm. Feck I need to ski, it’s been waaaaay to long.
Yeah, really stupid, silver is closed today due to “wind” why am I not seeing this wind?!? 5mph sustained with 20mph gusts should not close silver! Is it staffing issues? This is a joke!

I mean after looking at cams flags look pinned!

Looking at the web cam it looks pretty damn windy. An east wind gets funneled right to the ‘dola as it crests the ridge line. Seems to affect it worse than a west wind. Possible they also predicted low skier turn out with the cold and no new snow and the wind just helped make a decision. I’m more concerned they are closing lifts mid week as well as terrain, terrain that has plenty of coverage and should be wide open. Never seen this before.
Also think about chair evac “if” needed. People will die sitting in the chair for 20 mins. Gondola evac? That will take hours and it’ll just be recovery mission at that point. No need to risk it on such a windy day. Good call made by silver.
