There is some rowdy stuff that’s just a bit too far to get from the tram consistently and not walk past perfectly good untouched pow. More lifts further south set up entire new generation of shredders to what was explored and pioneered by the JHAF in the 80s/90s/00s. I’m going to be an optimist.

I’m swinging through town Tuesday to Saturday before heading east to fish with WSTdeep. If anyone wants to shuttle a pass lap or grab a beer, I’ll probably be around the coach every night riding bikes and eating the best food in the valley. Hit me up, let’s get a lap in!

I do pay attention to how those things work and the odds would be against you if you make that bet. Conservation easements have serious teeth and the JHLT is highly motivated to enforce them. It would be suicide for them to make that trade, and JHMR doesn't have anything the Land Trust wants, anyway.

Lift lines really are depressing everyone. That’s the answer of what the JHLT wants. I’d bet something happens and lifts go in.

Even if they somehow got lower RS access it’s not ideal for lift service.

Too many flats. And Broken neck would need some dynamite to ride from the top.
I guess if you had a lift from the yurt to powder eights and dynamite the chutes it might work.

The most that would realistically happen is a lift up the eights but then you need another lift back to R bowl. Not cost effective.

Four pines? That’s some jh terrain. Consistently steep.

If we’re dreaming, a four pines and pyramid lift would make it larger than vail and way more rowdy.

I'd go from the bottom of RS to the study plot at the bottom of the bowl. Groomers down the immediate gut of RS, the Ship Rocks and Why Not. The flats are what would make it good for groomers, shorter steep bits to run outs, kind of in steps so you can let em run into the flats and carry speed to the next roll over. That's the only sort of skiing that the Vill doesn't have, or at least much of it. The tourist friendly groomer skiing. Put in a Euro like restaurant down in the bottom there with views looking up the canyon and at 4 Pines. Fucking gals in lederhosen serving up giant steins of German beers, pretzels and sausages. Mogul skiing up the ying yang, tight zippers all the way down 4 Pines. Fucking free dog that shit.

But as you said, the wheel keeps turning and it's a business. It could be run better by deep pockets and some vision but that's hoping beyond hope methinks.

I would argue that the soul of JH skiing is not gone yet. Guys like you and I have had the good fortune to roll the vill at her best and we know she delivers the goods like few others.
The way we ski and our view of the ski world is unique, formed by the village and all she asks: Big vert, deep days, ultra cold spells, exceptionally high speeds, and Big Mtn. laps create a different kind of skier mindset.
It's the Jackson way, super balanced, aggressive and always ready for the unexpected...
I can show you a local styler from 100 miles away. Supergaper's got it, so does Swerve and a handful of other mags on here.
I call it Master's level skiing.
And there's the soul of it.
Until we're all long gone and no one remembers, it'll still be a thing.

And get 10-20 rowdy locals in line at the box and man, lemme tell ya, it's a flavor, a funk, a feeling you may never feel anywhere else. Get to the bench in the 'Backs on the right day and it's as soulful as it gets.

Oh man, thanks for that. You just brought me back with that poetic post. There's nothing like being "in" with the Jackson ski scene, the camaraderie and feeling of "oneness" with everyone there is totally awesome. It's a special place and being out in those mountains every day with like minded people promotes a bonding and relationships that last a lifetime.

I didn't read that the way Butthurt did.

I apologize for my drunken bitter posts but I'm finding it hard to stay super positive lately. My life is really good right now but everything else in this world seems to be falling apart. Crazy times.

Yup to all of the above. I was so fortunate to have moved to the village in '89 and meet all the wonderful kooks that I did. It kinda bums me out that this generation will not experience the same as we did back then, but that is life. Find the next spot, but it's tough when you're comparing the Tetons to anywhere else in the lower 48.

So here I am now looking at rebooking my trip that was shut down by Covid in '20 and having to wonder wft is going to happen this winter, 2yrs later, kinda pisses me off. It doesn't have to be this way.
