Clearly I need to check in this thread more in the summer - I got back into Livingston early June, here through the end of August.

Swimmy - Congrats! That picture is awesome, about time you got in print.

WRG - Sorry I missed this earlier, I have my welding kit up here, and I'm looking to pick up a couple projects this summer. The ones I thought I had arranged, fell through, and I'm kinda available.

Finally, I'm over in Red Lodge this weekend while my wife runs our dog in an Agility Competition. Any mt bikers in the area? Trailforks seems to show a big shuttle loop, Line Creek Plateau. Looks like it noodles along for about 10 miles at about 10k, and then drops like 4k+ the last 5 miles or so. Seems a bit committing to go solo... Windy AF today, but seems nice tomorrow.

Line Creek is a true classic, the views are spectacular, make sure it is snow free.
1st time I rode it there really wasn't much of a trail, cairn to cairn. Last time there was a nice buff single track burned in. The descent is long but kind of meh... Watch out for the rock water bars those fuckers are a hazard.

Might be a bit early for the plateau

^^^ Maybe a bit early, I drove up to the trail head today and walked to the lake at the first decent. Little patch of snow on the way down, but it looked pretty clear on the plateau. Been warm lately, but it was like 35 this morning and windy AF.

Following up, it is not too early. Weather perfect yesterday, light wind, sunshine, high in the 70s. Trail was vague, but present. Mostly. Some route finding required. About halfway through, passed a dude on a gravel bike heading up. Always that guy to put your own effort into perspective. Switchbacks down to the road on great shape. No bears. Stashed my bike at the bottom and thumbed back to the top for the truck. Pretty good day!

Anyone need tickets for Under The Big Sky? I have a pair and we might bail. Really only want to see Billy Strings and apparently finding camping etc etc is a bitch that weekend anywhere near Whitefish.

Been pretty active in the fishing sub-forum but thought I'd drop in here. Been camped on the Madison for two weeks chasing salmon flies. My trip here is winding down but yesterday my wife came over and we got out for a nice hike. Might get out today for a float before packing up and getting back to reality.

The “builder” in charge of trail work for the forest service is either entirely incompetent or maliciously anti bike/moto. Busy ruining Truman’s after butchering the bangtail/bracket last year. He/she is actively making the trails more dangerous and simultaneously less fun. It’s really weird

Hitting Helena for some laps tomorrow morning most likely. Any chance there is a good spot to park a truck camper on the south hills tonoght? like up the grizzly gulch road? Are they picky if you camp at the trail heads?all self contained, no mess.
Then making our way east to Colorado. Morning rides this week.

Camping is not allowed at the trailheads. You can try, but the nearby residents frown on it and may report you to the sheriff. You're not the first to have the idea, put it that way. Mountain Bike City in Helena has camp spots, as does the fairgrounds. If it were me I'd try to get a campsite at Cromwell Dixon campground at Macdonald Pass. Some people like staying at the Moose Creek campground up Rimini Road. Sketchier campers but closer to town.

Unfortunately our (SWMMBA's) hands are tied and we have no input/oversight into what they do and why.

That’s what I have heard through the grapevine. Would you be able at least get a name or email of someone who involved with the project? I know a lot of people who are pissed off. Local friend/trail builder was blown away at the incompetence. It seems like swimba involvement would be the most direct way to get their attention immediately. Prime local trails are being irretrievably butchered

Took a break from the bike and stretched the legs on a hike from the DPC gate to the summit of Saddle and back on Sunday. Cool to be up there in the "off season".

I called the Forest Service Bozeman office last fall asking about trail stuff, and they directed me to this person / department.

The Bozeman office is at 406-522-2520

Pretty amazing: just left Bozeman, about 85/87 deg at 9 pm. Out at battle ridge 25 min drive. 58 deg. Almost 30 deg temp difference.
