I certainly don’t descend on my Colnago anywhere near it’s speed limit. Those tiny tires and rim brakes and geometry have me super gripped.

Currently in South America but will be selling the Colnago and pulling the trigger on a gravel bike asap

For my old bike with rim brakes and road spacing of 100/130 qr. What's a wheelset with wider rims? Mine are 622*13 so only should take up 28c. I would like mid 30s
Tubeless would be nice
Can rim brake rims only be certain width?
I was looking at Shimano wh-rs500 for like $365 for what I think is a nice wheelset.
These are for road and dirt road. No singletrack. Almost no singletrack if you know what I mean

I've got multiple sets of tubular cyclocross wheels that should be on your IF. They are gathering dust in my bike room. Dr Swiss 240 hubs on all of them.

The new things is to run tubulars with tubeless sealant. It is actually quite elegant by making the tires less disposable while maintaining all the ride characteristics.

I believe he’s more worried about rolling the tubie off the rim, which is rare but not impossible. Ask me, I know.

Tubulars are awesome. Nothing rides better

I ride too much urban stuff to use them everyday. I don't even ride tubeless on my commuter. Standard tubes and tires nothing too fancy

That would qualify as one of the smoothest, best maintained roads in our area. It would be really fun on a gravel bike, especially on 45s.

To each his or her own.

That would be great riding on a Salsa Cuttthroat, Kona Sutra LTD, or many of the “drop bar mountain bikes” that fall within the “gravel bike” category. It also would make sense to ride a hardtail with minimal suspension on it depending on local trails that might connect those roads as long as the rides weren’t so long that you wanted different hand positions.

It’s steep, washboarded and basically all sharp rocks. I trained for a Leadville on these roads back in ‘99, on my hardtail 26”. They’re not fun on any bike, so why ride them? Esp. when there’s miles and miles of single track available, closer to my house, and 1/3 built relatively new, so I’m not bored of it yet. I think if I didn’t already have my belt drive SS, I’d get a gravel bike, (for a change of pace), but for now, 5 bikes is enough.
I get it, I want more bikes, but the gravel thing seems just trendy to me. Also my friend who just took 5th in state XC said he’d be way faster on one of his mtn bikes on that section. Also, I’m not afraid of cars.

Plugboots - if you ride where it doesn’t make sense to have a gravel bike, that’s okay. No need to post on this thread to advise us of that. It’s not like I post in the avy forum why I don’t have an air pack because I don’t ski in avy terrain all that often.
