You would think so, but that's actually not true. There are some tour players that can't shape the ball to one side or the other with any accuracy / consistency whatsoever. Some of them get so obsessed over it they end up ruining their swings, usually after a victory where they decide they want to take their game to the next level. Golf magazine had an article about this specifically last year, it was pretty interesting.

One of the most interesting things in sports is how we remember certain athletes and forget others. I almost think Tiger is underappreciated now. In the last twenty years there have only been a few inevitablities in pro sports and, in a sport where guys go from winning one week to missing the cut the next, from 1999 to 2003 Woods was as automatic as it gets. I hear the McIlroy comparisons and they're somewhat valid- McIlroy can, on occasion, flash the same ability. But until he puts it together with that consistency it's just a marketing pitch.

^^ Completely agree that Tiger is now underrated. A life-time win percentage of 27% of the tournaments he's played in or something like that? That is fucking insane.

Totally agree.
Not just the winning 1/4 of all the tourneys entered but the from 1998 to 2005 he never missed a cut. Golf - even the best golfers are not that consistent.

I think McIlroy has the capacity, but not the drive. Seems like he's more than willing to have a life outside of golf.

First round of the season last Sunday, Pinecrest in Idaho Falls. Built in the 30's by the WPA/CCC, it's a bit shorter and more compact than more modern courses. But the trees have grown and tightened up several of the fairways nicely.* Didn't keep score, but hit ~10 really sweet shots, all i was really hoping for. Well, that and the sixer of Keystone Light for $8.25 hydrating the nice walk...

Planning a 3-day golf trip in Vegas end of the month. Thinking Mountain Falls in Pahrump, Piaute or Boulder Creek, and....TPC!! Big splurge, but how fun would it be to play a course where i watched and walked a PGA tourney 2 falls ago, the Shriners/Justin Timberlake classic...

So Tiger and Jack were in the middle of a round, Tiger was looking at a tree between him and the hole. What'ya think Jack? Tiger when i was your age i always went over that tree. Tiger winds up, whack! Right into the tree. Well, when i was your age that tree was a lot shorter too come to think of it...;)

I wonder if that was more of the norm those days? Seems like the talent and hyper-competitiveness of the modern PGA puts it in a different dimension then that era.

Agreed. Kenny Perry is all right-to-left. His fade is a two-yard draw. Bruce Lietzke is all left-to-right. Both of them have won more money than they know what to do with.

Off to play the first round of the season. Not expecting much of my game. The course is actually owned by a Mag I think. Nice.

Wow, so that round sucked a bag of dicks. Im actually sore...ski fitness does not equal golf fitness. Range tomorrow.

i got back into the swing of things after about a 4 year hiatus consisting of no more than 2 rounds/year due to summer jobs. shot a 39 at my local par 3, but given the circumstances, i was pretty stoked. left a few dimples on the green on my last 3 holes- think im hooked again.

heard Rory after the 3rd round, he said something like "You can't really ever expect to win, you just go out there and give it your best..." probably true, but that's a LOT different than that A-hole Tiger saying "of course I expect to win, that is why I entered this tournament. I expect to win every tournament I enter..." Really struck me as a different mentality, even if it is all bluster. If Rory can dominate for more than 3-4 tourny's a year, then he will be correct. Will we see an 8 or 9 time winner again though?

from what i've read, that is one aspect of Tiger's mental game that sets him apart. He does think, on Thursday on the first tee, that he will win that tourney. One recent article quoted other players who noted that he brings Sunday intensity to the course every single day. How other players ramp up their focus/drive, but he starts with it on thursday and keeps it going for four days.

Best rangefinder for under $300, go! Before I spend this money on something practical.

The Callaway does seem decent. Either of you guys used the Bushnell V2 or V3? That's the other contender at this price point.

Rangefinders are cheating. A real golfer uses dead reckoning or walks that shit off. Almost as bad as playing with shafts/driver heads made with something other than wood.

I whole heartedly disagree. Tour pros have all the information a range finder gives you, and if everyone were equipped with one, I would argue the average round would take 40 minutes to an hour less time. People all lookin around for yardages and shit, then guessing the +/-, then guessing on club... Hit the fuckin' ball.
