Maybe I’m delusional, but it never seemed like rain. Really wet warm snow. Was pretty light and soft at 10, but by 12:30 not so much. Best day for me of 23-24 - but that’s not saying much.

yeah, I get it. sorta like sitting at a bar and it's 2 am and you be getting desperate ;)
It may not have felt like rain, but the moisture stopped freezing on me. Went from stopping every 800’ vertical to skigee the goggles, to about every 200’. That’s when we cashed out.
And I’m hardly complaining. Best day so far.
@boar, not hardcore at all, I only ski in the rain to get back to the car.
Big cold storm coming Friday night, thru the weekend and into next week!
Ullr be praised!
Post a pic of said PAWG when/if you get a chance …maybe Ullr will bless us with some phat powder dumpage. We will need it after this refreeze.

Winter is coming...

ETA: OBX was spinning around 2pm. My guess they were doing some maintenance with maybe a thought of opening up some terrain possible this weekend.
Snow boner!
Me and the boy, (ha he's 30) are gonna suffer thru a 4 (5?) lift Saturday at the McMeadows
Gonna finally kick it off tomorrow.
I have low expectations and ambitions.
It’s been a shitty work week & I just want to get some turns, take it easy, enjoy being outside in the snow & don’t injure myself.
Then get back for Sunday to do it again. [edit: ah, fuk, have to be at home for my MIL’s 80th bday sunday…have fun Sunday, y’all]
Deep breaths, cold snow & hopefully no wind holds.
It’s been so long…

(It’d be fun if I could gif that^^^!)
J & T & all my mountain friends, I hope y’all are finding your soft turns too
Looks like Ullr has granted Toadman’s wish, so long as the wind cooperates
Get sum!
Oh man I’m dying over here.
But just as an FYI, the Share the Road plates (the one with the cyclist) are four letters and sequentially assigned. In 2019 the DMV gave my Subie “LSMQ,” and one random day at Waldo Lake years later I parked next to “LSMP” and talked to the owner, and we confirmed based on timing that they are sequential.
When I got my truck in 2021 it was assigned “MTBY.” Which is great because part of that truck’s responsibility is shuttling friends and family on mountain bikes. I wonder who got “MILF” earlier that year or if they just took it out of rotation.
Anyways the timing seems about right for some poor soul to randomly get PAWG assigned to them.
Also means they are about 2-3 years from some lucky person getting “SNOW!”
And on that topic, finally, bring it on! This was WP on Friday morning.

Just watched a guy put snow sock on the rear wheels of a front wheel drive car on the way to MHM. Dude was spinning out like crazy.

The Govy 500 was in full force. Wrecks, slide offs...we got front row HRM
Oh, hell yeah did my wish come true. Rolled off of Pine about 20-30 seconds after the OBX sign flip. 5" never skied so deep.
But first was 3 laps on old Red. Lightish snow and nary a scrape from what was below.
Maybe 4-5 tracks on Boomerang when I dropped in.

Best day of the season. Low crowds from what I gathered was due to an accident somewhere on Century Drive.

I'm waiting for NW to spin before I make a trip down south ;-)
Maybe by Thursday or is that wishful thinking?
Boy does it feel good to be storm skiing again. Face burns, legs tired, satisfied.
Wind buff and cone lapz (no one cares) kept things sweet until late. Bach bus interacted with a civilian vehicle right at loge making the exit as much a crawl as the entry
^^^Wrecks going and coming. Chaos & Carnage! That’s why I like to ski during the week.
Sounds like a great time was had by Toadman - congrats mang, great timing.
Waiting to see photos from Tap
Also saw that CCX shit the bed at noon. People in line had to hike out, those on chairs sat there for like an hour. Somehow, Powdr didn’t mention that in their updates for the day.
Twas the best day of the year!

Front row in HRM lot
First chair!
Oops, meant to quote the fortress
::: ::: Where did u get parked?
HRM was upload only, bus to return
Stay safe and make conservative decisions out there, a party of two triggered a massive slide on PG ridge and walked away from it today. Attachment 481912
Not to be obnoxious, but holy shit that seems like an all-too-likely outcome…why test that slope so early in the storm loading?
Everything is crust below this new stuff
Fun fact: this is the guy who got the hood fkt last year.
Yeah exactly my thoughts, AC. Creek crossings aren’t even in yet and below treeline coverage is heinous, so not a fun entry or exit anyway!
Yeah, I see an observation report on Avy app but no incident indicated (& how many people were really on Pea Gravel? had to be them…)

Is it Hood R scuttlebutt?
I was coming up the double curve below Ski Bowl @ 7a & that’s where the slowdown started for me…was +/-25mph from there to MHM. I think it had to be a plow creating the slowdown. I didn’t see any driver silliness. Was at the off-ramp at 7.25a.
Ha, I looked at the waterfall side trail & thought “uhn-uhn, not today”
I lost a basket off new folkrm poles…i can only think i punched thru the crust in 4.5 bowl & left it behind
Had dreams of a Cone lap that turned into reality.

Way more crowded than yesterday. Wind affected and a bit more challenging to ski with some wind drifts in places. Rime made an appearance as well.
I don't think Jack knows about the avy app (he's not a PNW local). He posted all about the tour and the slide on his IG. (My brief recap of what he said in his IG stories:) They'd been out being conservative and had only gotten some small localized wind loaded pockets to move. Later in the day that slid after being remote triggered from many feet away and above it and was even above where they'd put the skinner. They theorized that it got storm and wind loaded during the day due to the lots of accumulation and wind transport since it was categorically not there when they went up.
Jack's not an idiot (in addition to the Hood FKT he has the ones for Shasta and Denali and probably does more backcountry skiing (by vert, days, whatever) than almost anyone). His IG stories (for now) have all the deets about it including what he thinks happened and the mistakes they made in their judgements and why https://www.instagram.com/jackkuenzle
