Christ Almighty man, throw away your phone and kill yourself.

Not if your goal isn't to kill, but to shut down the economy, spread panic, and keep the tourists out of Europe. The HIV pieces wouldn't add anything to the morbidity of the virus most likely but would definitely add to the terror factor. I guess the Chinese refused to investigate the Bidens. We'll know for sure if the epidemic pops up in Ukraine.
Involuntary Quarantine
Is that half a brassiere ??
How does the economy of the world change if China is shutdown for next 3 months?
Copper has been down 12 days in a row; first time in 50 years. 30y Treasury Bond is 5bp from an all time low. Oil prices could collapse as they have held up pretty well all considered. If that happens the shale industry is in trouble and those are high paying jobs.
A long term risk is, imo, how does it affect travel and tourism since the service economy and transportation have been two of the main drivers of employment growth.
Well, the stock market freaked out about it today. And it's been quite steady to up through all this Trump chaos and trade wars.
What is the position to benefit from the stock market drop?
Smellin sweaty tits is better than smellin sweaty flu-infected Chinese travelers?
Drive around and buy up all the masks
Local Asian population is stocking up. Higher end stuff.
^^^wtf????
So I was told today that it is called a novel virus, meaning it can easily mutate so rapidly that we cannot contain it. So without these extreme precautions we could have another 1918 flu pandemic that wipes out 50-100 million. Maybe one of our resident docs can confirm that. So saying this is just media fear mongering is kinda right but it’s prolly a good idea to keep this shit in check asap.
My layman’s understating was the word novel just meant new.
The H5N1 is the bird flu from many years back, just made a re-appearance.
Bad times.
They also have the Pig Plague or whatever the fuck it is over there, killing all the pigs. They got some shit going on.
We all do. Ripples through the world for sure. I’d like to know what Bezos has to say about it. How many billions of goods has he already placed orders for? Are they going to ship or no? Clearly the humanitarian part is more devastating and I wish everyone the best in nipping it as fast as possible. If I lived over there I’d probably wear a bra in my face if I didn’t have anything else too. Ok just kidding, I’d wear a ripped up shirt...
I hear they may be ordering everyone to kill off their pets now.

What are the nurses saying?
Maybe posted already but

A few hours I heard. But it wasn't a nurse so ...?
Yeah I called that one a few days ago. Ships are the perfect incubator. They don’t know the duration the virus lives on inanimate objects yet. Predicting a couple days to several weeks. More concerned about the people on the ship unpacking the things. Versus the things in the containers.

The tinfoil effect is strong with these ones
But isn’t it ironic that the chartered airplane of evacuees were put in quarantine on a us military base, all the while commercial airline traffic kept pouring into our normal airports?
Was the quarantine just theatre. Why worry about 200 while thousands pour in.
Shaming drones so 1984
Do we get all of our masks from China?
Air traffic was stopped from Wuhan (and Hubei province) a while ago. That is where most of the cases are. That is where most likely someone coming in will have the disease. Quarantine is expensive and capacity is limited. It is prudent to quarantine people coming from Wuhan/Hubei and simply screen other travelers coming from China.
Of course shortly after the rules changed drastically expanding quarantines, self quarantines, and blanket visa refusals.

The wet markets with abundant variety of wildlife meat are a result of aspirational wealth. Before globalization there wasn’t capital for demand. Let’s hope new generations turn it around.
“A campaign on Weibo, the social media platform, drew 45 million views with the hashtag “#rejectgamemeat.” The government has once again issued a ban on wildlife trade, and leading scientists and many Chinese people are calling for that ban to be made permanent.”
Serving animal parts in neatly wrapped plastic is palatable for us but not really the norm globally.
Too bad for the sharks, and elephants that the virus did not begin with them.
That country disgusts me.
