I believe you can camp at the Grand marais municipal campground. There are no services tho and you have to pay.
Been looking up Lonie on Google and let me say, that family has a lot going on. I respect the balls to try to start a Canadian Football Team in a small Louisiana city. Just pure stupidity, hubris and a money burning a whole in the pocket
Any word if Trollhaugen will be open during Turkey Day holiday ?

I have no inside information but based on the forecast with several nights of snowmaking temps starting tomorrow they'll be open. They have a new pumphouze and more guns this year and are always super aggressive. I'm going to Lutsen this year assuming favorable weather but have spent the last three Thanksgiving weekends at Troll. Pretty chill with minimal crowds.

Thanks, it’s a little over an hour from me. I will keep an eye on their website for updates.

Trollhaugen delivers.
What a fun little place. I might have been here once years ago as a Boy Scout. Not sure.

It’s only 1pm and I am taking a break out in the parking lot. This place is a blast. Real young crowd, everyone out having fun. So nice to see this.
I’m headed back out for more. Stand by for more Midwest STOKE.

Harry, do you get up to Bohemia? I hear that it is totally rad.
Awesome Harry! Wish I could have made it but mired down in a window trim project and have to get my girl ready for race camp at Lutsen next week.
The Lutsen web cam is pretty bad ass except it shuts down at night which stinks. Temps look good tonight and then for a few days they have some really cold air mixing in.

I imagine the bar in that building is rockin on Friday and Saturday nights
Day Two of researching gravity at Trollhaugen.
Snow was soft up top and at the bottom, but boilerplate in the middle. Yesterday the whole hill was soft top to bottom. Today was a lot colder too.
Talking to my ex-HS GF (we went to different schools), she is from Amery and belonged to the ski club. They took a bus to Trollhaugen every week.

Hell yes. I owe you that for all the coffee you have sent to me & my mom.
Just keep an open mind and the skiing here is a shitload of fun. If you try to compare it to Western skiing, it will suck. So just don’t compare it. Just ask yourself if you are smiling while you are skiing. If that answer is yes, you are doing it right.

I would also love to ski the Troll with some Maggots this season. I’m about an hour south, so I usually ski Afton. But a number of people I used to work with at Snowcrest/Birchpark in the early 80s are there now. I know, I’m a bit of a fossil, but I won’t slow you down unless it’s a powder day!
I don’t believe so, but I may have to think on it awhile. My memory isn’t what it used to be……
Instructors. Relatives of mine; used to ski with me as a teen at Snowcrest/BP.
I Googled them and it didn’t jar my memory. I couldn’t find any pictures from around that time. They would have had 30 plus years on me and they were probably not hanging in the bar as much as I was at the time.
I’m over an hour to the east of Trollhaugen. My season pass is at Christie Mountain, but they aren’t open yet. I will be at Trollhaugen at least 1 day this weekend, if not multiple days.
Send a PM if you want to meet up. I’m fully vaxxed and boosted, and I will only ski with those who are too, so please include your vaxx status in the PM. Thanks, and hope we can meet up.

We had a great time at Lutsen. Mikey1299 great to meet you and how cool is it that our mini maggettes became quick friends and ski buddies. Not that surprising really, considering their dads had matching boots...lol. Thanks so much for the coaching, videos, pictures, etc. Look forward to seeing you and your family around the circuit in the future.
Conditions were good on what they had open...which was two runs on Ullr. No lift lines to speak of except for a short time Saturday morning. In general the skiing was fun and conditions were good, if limited. No white ribbon of death and easy to have the piste to ourselves when we skied. The wife and I went to the top of Mystery Mountain on our 3 hour exploration hike, which the dog thought was awesome. Lutsen is an awesome campus, snow or not. We still have lots more poking around to do. They had a lot of snow but seemed to have prioritized making snow in various places rather than getting things open for the weekend. I'm sure it will get better fast with mostly 24 hour snowmaking.
Regardless, the ski camp was an unmitigated success, as was the mini maggot mini summit.

Supposed to top out at 60 degrees here today. 42 on Saturday for deer hunting which is a bit better I guess.
Going to need some colder air to get skiing rolling at scale this far south.
Meanwhile looks pretty wintery on the North Shore.
