Those other beers thread

Just my $0.02, but I think some brewers have priced themselves out of the barrel-aged beer market, and it's leading to stores stocking fewer of them.

I get that a lot of time, effort, etc. goes into these beers, but you have to be delusional to think someone is going to be $20-30 for a 12 ounce or 500mL bottle of beer. There is a cooler of singles at my LLS, most are 12 ounce or 500mL beers, and almost all of them are $20+. That is preposterous for beer. Plenty of 750mL barrel aged bottles are $30+ now. It doesn't cost 2-3x as much to make those beers now as it did a couple of years ago. It's unvarnished greed.

I do love a good saison though. I had a great one of Logsdon back in the fall that I highly recommend tracking down. It was like $16 for a 4-pack of pints.

Same here except farther north. My standard order at any pub was a pint of bitter and whatever the one Indian dish was.

I think a lot of breweries are intentionally making their barrel-aged beers very limited availability just to increase demand with the commensurate price tag increase. I know there are several breweries around here that announce the release dates for their barrel-aged beers and they sell out in hours.

Yup. Or you have to pay up to join their club to even have access to order them.

I just want to say, having since had a real pint of bitter in a real pub, fuck Redhook.

I got a 30-pack of Rainier at a holiday gift exchange this year. I'm working my way through them slowly but steadily. I've found swill beer isn't nearly as bad as I once thought it was. Or maybe it has something to do with it being free. :)

Finally found a saison at Bevmo. Two of them, in fact. Two versions of this Megadeth saison by Unibroue... A tout le monde and Saison 13. Apparently brewed at the request of lead singer of Megadeth. First one was pretty bland. This one is a bit better, but far cry from some of the great saisons I've had in the past.

The beers by Unibrow are, um, interesting. I've always found them to be hit or miss, with a lot of miss at times. I like Fin de le Monde for a while, until I didn't.

It's been a while since I've had that one. May need to buy a bottle one of these days. We have a brewery here called the Lost Abbey that does a similar style to Unibroue but does it much much (dangerously) better.

I always liked the fin du monde when I had it on tap, not a huge fan of the bottled ones.

Logsdon has been my go-to for the Belgians if I can find it.

If I can't stand chai, would I like this? Do the spices in chai that ruin an otherwise good cuppa actually work in this stout? I absolutely hate spices in beer. However I like milk stouts.

The chai is noticeable, so you probably wouldn’t like it. On the other hand, this was 2 cans out of their 8-can variety pack, so that might be acceptable.

The lighting in my house sucks.

That said, it was crisp with just a hint of citrus and a mellow, but lingering spicy bitterness. I enjoyed it.
