This year it feels more like early winter, as in late November, down here. It was in the low 80s yesterday. And will be in the mid 60s with rain tomorrow. And the surf has been fun for over a month. It is getting me excited to ski.
If anybody in Reno is in need of a tune up I have a gift certificate good for 1 stone grind at Bobo's. Expires tomorrow(10/31) so you'd have to pick it up ASAP. If you can use it, let me know.
Disclaimer: The certificate says non transferable but I can't see how that could be a problem. There's no names or info anywhere on it that would link it to someone.
chomp chomp. dumping down here. truck loaded with wood, and getting some gear together. Anyone up for a walk about Saturday afternoon and/or Sunday morning? I'll be some where along 88.
Wasn't willing to throw the dice and hinge my October turns on the arrival of tonight's storm, so yesterday I inadvertently poached Boreal.
May have been the most meager snow patch I've skied in a long, long, long while (and me'n Vets have skied us some meager patches over the past 7 years).

Finally starting to sprinkle in Kings Beach
^^^ Curious how much you get. Not supposed to be much spillover.
Random spits and sprinkles here at 7400' kingsbury grade. Kirkwood cam showed a dusting
It's still epic biking season!
snow was slow comin' to the North Shore (T/D, specifically).
it was still drizzling moderately when I crashed out last night at 11 pm.
woke up at 1 am and it was still drizzling.
woke up again at 4 am and there was some white on the deck.
2" now at 7:30 and the plows have swung by twice in the last 2 hours.
That is indeed a meager patch, Dookey.
Looks like the storm tracked a little south. Been pretty quiet here in Berkeley since yesterday morning.

Almost an inch in The Grid. Nice and sticky like my shoes after last night at the CBC.
Ullr sits all brokenhearted, tried to dump but only Farted
I weep for those turns Dookey, go give it another try today

Just checked the doppler and there's another line of precip moving across the coast. Probably going to track South too, but may get a few more inches over the Crest in the Tahoe area today.
Looks like ebbetts was the winner for this one -according to Snotel: 9in there
Yeah snow went south. We got over an inch of rain last night in Tuolumne county.
Heading to castle. Green pants, purple jkt.
I've got 2 buddies in town till next Saturday so no skiing for me as I'm trying to be a good host 2 two guys recently divorced so it's mostly a drinking week. Did a loop around the lake and visited a few drinking holes around the lake today and took em for a drive up blackwood canyon around 11am this morning. New tires on the truck did awesome. 8-10 inches of snow in places up there. Also an addition to good food places is Francisco's Mexican in Gardnerville. Good prices great food and superior service
sadly, no Saturday turns to be got since i had to work today (or at least take my physical so that I can work later this month).
and tell me about the weeping. I immediately called Vets to verify if those turns counted. He asked "Did your skis touch snow?" Me: "yes". Vets: "Did you make turns?" Me: "yes". Vets: "it counts."
won't be able to venture out until Monday, but may take ECPDR's beta and scope Blackwood. There's a few spots there that are smooth. Ditto for the PCT out above Perazzo.
sadly, while it's still cold in T/D, it's sunny and what little accumlated is fastly melting.
still, the sound of snowplow blades grating against the tarmac at 5am this morning was a welcome wave of clamorous beauty.
Heard tell that they got 18" down Mammy way...
north side of Castle today was...surprisingly good but very bony.
Anyone get out around CP/KW today and have beta? I got up this too late this afternoon to poke around. Trying to decide if I should just stay here in the morning or take a drive. Seems like about 6" plus down in the meadow. Split, hauled and stacked a third of my season rent today. Feeling ready for some beers.
that's right.
made an afternoon trip to elephants back. definitely the rockiest turns I've ever made. Nice to walk in the snow, but not great for skiing.
not skiing related, but local...
these Chilean psych-rockers are coming to Reno next week:

Didn't get too much accumulation at Truckee River level (~6200ft) Friday and Saturday, unfortunately, and it is melting fast. Headed over to SV this morning to pick up Mrs. UCL's pass and stopped for a quick shot. Nice to see some snow on the peaks.

I've got a 32 up front with the 1 up 42 tooth in the rear with a 15 tooth (I think to fill in a gap) on a 1x10. Also put a rad cage on with helps with shifting. Great change and didn't cost that much either.
Wtf is all this bike gearing bullshit.
This the tahoe SKI thread, where we talk about what groomers you rode, where you ate, what fell out of the sky in your backyard, and what color jacket you own. Fuck off!
Working backwards blue, a little snow, at home and they didn't groom shit today.
Tagged a few stones today, but the usual early season bowl was fun to skin and somewhat not horrible to ski. And KW was blowing snow today at the top of 5. Must be getting ready to open.
Damn traverse tracks...
Also, in other news, been doing a bit of hiking before this storm hit. Checked out some cabins in order to make sure they were shipshape for the winter, and they all look good. The rabbithole (Mt Rose Pass), is solid and seems like the resident squirrel is enjoying himself. The Foxhole (alpine) is now battened down and should have actually kept the snow out from this storm. And even the Mt Rose wilderness cabin (no idea on the name for this?) looked good. At least better maintained than I had seen in the past. Now all we need is some snow.
Hey Tahoe peeps, Mt. Rose is opening this weekend! Well just for the weekend and just a conveyor lift for now...But tickets for only $10. Think that's worth it?
