How is that course. I remember way back when, It was a private millitary course. Opened to public 15 years ago?

I think it was decommissioned in 1989 and it's now an Arnold Palmer course. They've fixed it up pretty well the last couple years, mostly by improving the drainage, but it's got a way to go to be really top of the line (lousy bunkering, greens are all over the place in terms of quality). I understand they have the budget to do so, though.
It's worth it if you're a Bay Area resident and qualify for the local rates, but not at all worth the tourist rate of $140 or so.
I'm going off at 6:36 in the hopes of getting 18. (Working from home so it should be doable without taking the 6 am slot). I don't think you can make a reservation for the 9-hole early bird but you can always get on at that hour, it's wide open as of right now- and, of course, it's super-convenient to getting to Marin.
Das- we have Saturday passes only. Let me know if you decide to go that route since there's a good chance I'll have some to get rid of for below face.

Baby's first tournament is the US Open which ends on Father's Day and you aren't going to take it? Are you fuckin' retarded? Especially if that's your first kid; you have a chance for a lifelong memory: First time being a dad at the US Open on Sunday. If it were me, I'd fucking cherish those pictures forever. Unfathomable you're thinking of passing on that.
Great picture. Love stuff like that.
It's a fair point and one I've considered. The problem is that the kid won't know we're building memories that will last a lifetime- he may just scream and cry for six hours straight. We haven't really gotten him out of the house much so it's hard to say. The test is a baseball game on Memorial Day weekend and if he's okay with that we'll try the golf. If he's not, we'll get our keepsake Kodak moment next time the tournament's at Pebble or wherever.
I'd be more psyched to do it if getting in and out of the venue wasn't going to be a pain in the ass, but it probably is.
What'd you shoot today? Oh, you know, 55 - no big deal. His last 8 holes are just filthy...

yeah, i understand it, but as noted in the article, the scorers table is usually away from the spectators and the kids do their thing in quiet. she'd just become the first person male or female in the state to win 4 straight state titles and people were all over the place to be with her. it's sad.
That Reddit has some kinda cool stuff.

I would never leave the house- unless It was to play 18, of course.
Right on. Some people let their kids dictate their social calendar and others realize that kids will cry sometimes, suck it up, and do what they want to do.
Good luck with the ballgame. That's a great fucking day in and of itself. Congrats on the little one.
Replica of 17th at Sawgrass Stadium? Sick.
It's happened before
Argentina's Roberto De Vicenzo was poised to battle Bob Goalby in an 18-hole playoff in 1968 ( at the Masters) when he got the sad news that he had signed an incorrect scorecard.

I thought I heard they're changing that rule soon.
i know it's happened before, but comparing a pro to a high schooler isn't really fair in my opinion. not to say that de vicenzo didn't suffer for it, but this girl gets nothing but the historic achievement and the self-satisfaction if she wins. if you read the original story, her dad was recently diagnosed with leukemia i think and taught her to play. it's just unfortunate, especially when you won by 9 strokes or whatever. and her dad did the same thing back in college or something. i'm sure that she realizes that there are more important things and she's got three titles and a college scholarship, but missing out on history because of that kind of mistake at that age is nothing but unfortunate. i'd still give her my medal if i had won by her dq, which has also been done in other sports when the runners up didn't feel justice was done by the rules. i couldn't feel good about winning that way.
The LPGA and PGA tours (I think both but definitely one of them) changed the scorecard rule this year. Because, again, it was stupid.
It's funny how some people are more into the letter of the law of rules vs. the spirit of competition. In high school, we once "won" a close match due to a scorecard signing error by the other team. We said "who wants to win that way" and decided to forfeit.
Getting in and out of Olympic Club is going to be such a clusterfuck, I'm not sure I'm comfortable taking myself to anything like that. I turned down tickets for Sunday because to be honest I'd rather watch it on TV. An earlier round could be fun, though.
Live pro golf kinda sucks. It's ok sitting in hospitality watching the tv and being in the environment but walking around struggling to see and scrambling for position is a chore. TV captures the theater of golf much better imo.
No doubt, I have been to a PGA championship and a US open...you have 2 options (if you are not privy to hospitality tents):
1.) Find a spot to park your ass that has multiple vantage points of different holes, usually requires a VERY early arrival and in my experience a semi-sprint as the sun is coming up.
2.) Find a group and follow them all day.
Wandering aroud aimlessly is the least effective way to go about it, IMHO.
Like I give a shit. I was just giving you my opinion on the matter, dickhead. I get that it would be a logistical nightmare but considering the details of the events I, personally, would try to make it happen. That's all I was saying but ignore the compliment and focus on the shit you took personally for some weird fucking reason. I'll chalk it up to lack of sleep since the new guy/gal came around.
You think I'm calling you out for not taking your kid anywhere? You're going to a ballgame which I think is great. Mr. Glass Half-Empty over here.
wow, i guess my faintest of hopes that this thread at least could stay civil were misplaced. not that it wasn't heading downhill before now. oh well. that's what i get for knowing better and hoping anyway.
Whaaaat? You say this after a tame discussion and a few opinions about taking an infant out to a golf tournament but you didn't say anything during the rules argument? What are you sipping on tonight?
I think we established that shit-talking isn't to be taken seriously in, like, page two. We're all just shit-talking about other topics.
This reminds me why winter is still the best season.
i was waiting to see if it was going to degrade into the usual. and of course, even before i was a dad i wouldn't have put a rules argument on the same level as a discussion about what a new dad wants to do or not do with his 7 week old. don't worry, i'd let you play through.
Don't be dismayed. Assholes are everywhere in life. Especially on anonymous forums. Ignore and proceed. BTW, post up some of your GoPro golf swings so we can dissect them and really screw your head up.
When I was deep into my own golf addiction I would tape (Sony Betamax) the weekend PGA tournament and watch every full swing deep into the night in slow motion while I ate donuts.
Yo motherfucker ,
You were doing good with the pics and all .
But now you have to start being all core and shit .
Cut that shit out and leave the insults to people that are good at it .
By the way , have you given Daspinhead the head slap he needs ?
7 week old? Stay home and watch on TV. 7 mos. old? Take it to the course unless you can make other arrangements. A lot like toting a big purse. And a back pack. And a chair. And a stroller. And a water bottle........
I agree, I suck at insults but wasn't really trying to either. Negativity breeds negativity. My bad.
Actually, my wife just said we wouldn't take a kid that young to a golf tournament either, Father's Day finish or not. After thinking about it, you're totally right. Even without it being the Open, it would probably still suck balls and not be worth it with a kid that young.
Let's get the chi back to to the golf center after my fuck-up and wrongness.
Critque my set-up. It's not a straight-on picture but I still think you can see it pretty well. I think I'm not standing upright enough but who the fuck knows. I think my hands a low, too. I'd appreciate some feedback on what the singe digits hacks think. Actually, everyone chime in; at this point, I need all the help I can get.

Your mom likes them though.
Give me a break. They were cheap and they're comfortable. I even describe them as "funny blue shorts" when meeting people.
I have black ones too that I'm sure will make an appearance at some point. Costco specials. Gotta pinch pennies when most of your free cash is going towards making babies.
The setup means jack, kinda. My wife told me all the pros wiggle their toes at the set up and it got me centered. It's what you're looking at impact that counts. And 1000 hours of slo-mo with 500 donuts told me everyone from John Daley to Jeff Sluman looked the same at impact.
You do look a little open at the shoulders. Is your miss a slice?
