St. Anton getting white.
Check the live cams....
it's so soothing to look at, isn't it. :)
Leysin snow down to 1800m.
Looking pretty in these parts.
classic siberian express is lining up for the northeastern alps. the arlberg and points east look to get some dry and light stuff over the next 2-3 weeks.
The siberian flow brings along the cold but doesn't bring any moisture.Quote:

On a positive note we are rather expecting northern weather patters bringing cold and moisture!:FIREdevil
pleeeeeeeezz....
Forecast for the next few days:
Snow above 400 m, later even dropping lower. Especially Northern Alps are supposed to get nuked on.
consider it jinxed :D
Beware your nuts......:the_finge
well since i got kinda fired today (well the kind of "we make shitloads of money but our company won't need any callcenter students next year, so we can make even more money" explanation :fuckyou: my boss wanted me for another year (and told me my next contract signing would be routine last week :( ), but his boss sucks shareholder cocks :fuckyou: :fuckyou: ) and my mood is not really great because i need i job for new year which pays my rent, my forecast will be kinda short.
first: nothing is certain for 2-3 weeks.
second: it is certainly not siberian. ;)
thrid: not that much moisture but yes the northeastern alps(can you say krippenstein ;) )will get the most.
fourth: medium range forecasts(5 days+) don't look too bad either.:)
fifth: i won't start salivating on the fortune teller's crystalball because those maps are 9days+ away.
s-p sorry to hear about the job. hopefully it might mean more ski days for you and i'm sure that the good ullr will praise you for being a good employee.
well i saved up money(more than ever before :( ) had no universiy and no work from thursday to sunday and only one paper to do this semester. it looked promising. but depending on the new job ill get(i have to get one, because moving back to my parents is NOT an option. even if that would mean skiing more) my planing is screwed.
wooohaaa.
the forecasts for europe are incredible.
at least 7 days of winter with some snofall from time to time and below average temperatures. THEN the madness would start . IF this W/NW pattern should become reality, this early season would totally be off the hook !
the circulation over the atlantic would break down completely and we would a nearly stationary huuge low over northern central europe !
if only half of this comes true this could be epic !
so: winter(below av. temps) with snofall is almost certain for he next 7days and we have a reeeally nice perpective concerning the long term. (the model runs are surprisingly consistent).
time for me to get a new job and enjoy some early season turns
Hope things work out on the job front. Moving back in w/ parents can be a humbling experience.
From Geneve:
Last nite (17th) was the 1st nite that below 0c hit the Lac Leman basin & shorelines this Fall (that I recall).
A dusting of snow still remains on the French-end of the Jura (down to ~1300m). Nothing on the CH-end even at 1500+.
Finally cold air is in place, but clear weather will remain through the weekend.
From predictions I looked at most of the action looks to take place in Austria/Eastern CH.
Subtle, Is that where your models place the snowfall?
Subtle,
Rather than making those crazy commutes from Cologne, why don't you move to Munich or Geneva to finish university?
yes :)

btw. my last post looks terrible and im blaming it on the laptop keyboard ;)
one glance at the toady's models: consistent to day 6-7, but it would be warmer and wetter later on . the west woud get it's share but it wouldn't be as cold anymore.
bummer, sp. get yourself sorted and down here asap!
on the bright side, check out 120hr. a little early to tell, but there is hope...

hey, if you need help, just send me whatever link you're looking at. i'll translate it. better than any online translator. better than anyone who "took a year of german" in high school. better than most germans still living in germany.Quote:

the kripp will get 70-80cm base for sure (more on the dachstein glacier....and it is open. the krip won't open till dec. 17th) maybe it will break the 1m barrier.
mid/long term outlook(5-6days+): there will be a low over europe but the location could alter the dumpage points. right now it looks like west/and south (bovec / eastern italy could get 1m in 24h and crazy stuff like that) should get the most, but if the low core should move a few km to the east, the northern alps might get some.
Looking promising.
Since this seems to be the "Official 2006 Euro Snow Thread" (this is so european, like, keeping 4-6 different threads about the weather... :) )
, has anyone firsthand experience about bavarian alps this season.
I am hitting the Zugspitze area in two weeks for a few days, how are things cooking up there?
I guess the Zugspitze/garmisch belongs to bavarian alps?
What other worthwiler resorts are there within a easy driving distance?
Flying in/out of mynchen.
Danke.
Wow, that's a great link. Thanks.Quote:

it do not now if it is already open then and if it snows enough down in the valley.
zugspitze has 50cm right now (most of it fresh as it had about 7cm before)
The Snow Forecast sheet for Cavalese makes interesting reading.
A centimetre here or there and then on Friday night 47cm and 29cm for Saturday morning. Crikey.
Autch...it´s rockski time then...again.Like lyngen wasnt enough...Quote:

Is that bad in the weekdays too,or just weekends?
i guess it depends. weekdays should not be that bad because many arrive guys from munich. but when it dumps even then you have to be early. the problem is that the terrain is pretty limited to only one valley you ski down.
weekends must be quite "interesting". ;)
dumpage called, game on! :the_fingeQuote:

apparently they won't open the whole mountain for the weekend(but later on next week when the sun should come out they said), so im not sure if iwant to go ,but if there is enough snow the www.feuerkogel.net in the same area might be an alternative. but they will only open for the weekend.

i like those chairs :)
I will be on the wrong side of the alps from thurs - sunday. Frikkin Val Thorens, with a massive base of exactly 0cm's. :cussing:
Well.. snow-forecast predicts a heavy snowfall on friday and saturday for val Thorens and the west.. It might be optimistic, but atleast there's some hope.:cool:Quote:

An almighty ribbon of death is forming at Alpe d'Huez at the mo.
Us losers are heading out on the 7th and back on the 12th December, so we're looking for deep snow, fun terrain and basic lodging. Any recommendations in the Loser/Krip (I love that) area?Quote:
