Honestly I thought the Truckers were a little flat. They also played Saturday night and seemed a little tired after going 'til 130am. Also not a fan of Hood and Cooley taking turns every song, hard to get any rockin' cohesion going.
Blitzen Trapper opened for them. Never seen those guys before and they were great. definitely going to check them out next time they headline. Lead singer has an amazing voice.
Thanks, was curious how it went...I guess the alternating is something related to how English Oceans came out/was put together? When I saw Patterson solo a month or so ago it seemed like he was taking it easy on his voice, not getting growly like he used to. Guess i'm glad I got a ticket for the first of their two nights in New Orleans, however it's easy to overextend in that town so it may not make any difference....
Yeah I'm looking forward to your take on it. The new album is pretty much 50/50 Hood & Cooley and they seemed to want to continue that for the tour. My problem is that Cooley's songs used to be a great re-set or interlude between some down & dirty 3 guitar attack jams. There was almost none of that last night.
New keyboard player/3rd guitarist is solid, as is the bass player. The latter is an awfully feminine looking kid, arguably more attractive than Shonna... not like that's hard to be tho ;)
Greg is sick, the remaining 4 Beacon Shows are cancelled. :(
WOW.... That blows. Last week he had cancelled a few tv/radio appearances because they said he wasn't feeling well. Lucky we got to see him when we did.
Allman Brothers Postpone More Dates Due to Gregg Allman's Bronchitis
UPDATE: The Allman Brothers Band announced Monday that they will postpone the remaining four dates at the Beacon Theatre as Gregg Allman recovers from bronchitis. "The Allman Brothers Band announced the postponement of the remaining four Beacon Theatre performances on March 25, March 26, March 28 and March 29 as Gregg Allman recovers from bronchitis. As a result of Mr. Allman's illness, the Allman Brothers Band is unable to perform at the level to which they aspire."
And of course....

Seen Middle Class Rut at Stubbs BBQ in Austin...never saw 2 guys make so much noise! Great little venue too...
Winery Dogs are playing the local venue tonight. Anyone seen them?
Widespread Panic in Reno on Sunday 3/30 was off the hook. Never miss a Sunday show! Red Beans in first set, second set was 98 minutes with All Along the Watchtower, into Pigeons and Holden Oversoul to wrap up the set. Low Spark and fixin to die for the encore. Insane!!!!
Going to Kraftwerk 3D show tonight...a little scared.
^^^ Where?!
Washington Heights, NYC...speechless right now, gotta process...COMPUTERWORLD!!!
Glad you enjoyed it - looks to be a tasty setlist with DBK, OoO and soul food uno. Honestly, none of their studio efforts are that impressive. If you're a fan of the proggier stuff, Mantis is alright. I like death by stereo as well and my favourite studio album is local band does ok (different era for the band). One fat sucka is a great live album if you can find it, live at the murat is a good intro to the band.
You're much better off here though: https://archive.org/details/UmphreysMcGee I'll highlight a few shows that are a good intro to the band (lineup and sound changed at the beginning of 03, much more Jake (guitar)-centric before that - Kris Meyers (drummer) really added a lot to the mix).

A lot of sbd/matrix mixes from before 05 are freely traded. Mike Mirro, their orig drummer, recently passed away (RIP). Also, sets with jeff coffin or joshua redman on sax are pretty awesome. Bunch of redman sets from february 04 are killer.
Oh yeah, back on topic - Karl Denson and crew tonight! Gots my dancin shoes all polished and ready to go...
Saw Phantogram last night in Pittsburgh. They absolutely bring it live. She's so fucking hot I was pretty much in a trance the entire show
Sent from one of those fancy cellular telephones
Bill Frisell came through town a week ago with his Beautiful Dreamers Trio. Cool combo: guitar, viola and drums.
Not a video of the show we went to but check out the cool version of In My Life (starts at 15:50):

Also recently saw Goran Bregovic and His Wedding & Funeral Band. Hyper-Balkan evening.

No weak players in the Southern Soul Assembly. Luther, Marc, JJ, and Anders played an almost 3 hour show at the House of Blues in Boston. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/09/uve9e3um.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/09/yhypymu6.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/09/aze3yvep.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/09/zy4urusy.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/09/2y8u2ybu.jpg
They are all so strong. Playing, singing, entertaining. They essentially take turns playing songs, and occasionally will play with each other, but if you expect to see all 4 guys trading licks and tearing it up, that isn't what it is. They do accompany each other some, but watch each other play more.
Great show, some really funny moments, and musically excellent.
The upstairs at the HOB is ridiculous. I can't imagine what goes on in the Vegas one... (or maybe I can)
sorry the pics are so weak
Binky (ec mag) has been on a Greensky Bluegrass craze lately. That show sounds awesome. Anders is in great shape. Looks clean and is playing and singing really well. Tried to get to JF this year but couldnt get it together. Wife was in NOLA on biz last week; what a waste of a trip to send her. She stayed in the Quarter and went to the gym.....
Tonight's event...
Shpongle. Never been, hoping for the best!
^^^ I expect a full review.
^^ Awesome. Not many people came out, but those who were there were way into it. Lots of hula hoops, dreadlocks, and juggling... ;)
Saw the 2 DJ sets that opened, and could have left after them and been satisfied. But then Simon came out and turned it up to 11.
Danced for a while, then went to chill in balcony and veg out. If not for having just seen Kraftwerk, I'd give it a 10.
Good stuff. Oh, and the venue was great. The Space @ Westbury. I will have my eyes open for more shows here...
So jealous! Thanks for that.
saw Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at the Crystal Ballroom last Tuesday night, April Fools day. After the Dap Kings played the revue, and the Dapettes sang a few, the Dap Kings introduce Sharon Jones!!!! and this white girl in glasses comes out and starts singing. Of course, we had all forgotten what day it was, and after about 20 seconds, Sharon comes out and screams "April Fools!!!" and gets to work. Fun show, not so sure about the Crystal Ballroom general admission set-up with the split floor.
Also, it's the second show I've been to where we ve had some Portland fuck face douchebags get super pissy about being in "their space" during the show, as if they fucking owned that spot on the floor.
Would love to see a show @ Red Rocks. Don't forget Molly!!!
Phil & Friends at the Brooklyn Academy of Music last night.
Jackie, Russo, Medeski, Warren, Phil
Good times, sweet venue.

Also saw the Cave Singers, not sure where the photographic evidence is...
Solid shows coming up around here, really stoked for Manchester Orchestra in a week and a half.

2nd set. Haha.
Set 1: Truckin' > Deal, Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys (1) > Passenger > Loose Lucy, Shakedown Street > Cumberland Blues
Set 2: Jam > The Other One > The Wheel > Viola Lee Blues > Midnight Rider (2) > Viola Lee Blues > I Know You Rider > Jam (3) > Viola Lee Blues > Into the Mystic (4) > Uncle John's Band > Lady With A Fan > Terrapin Station E: Goin' Down the Road Feeling Bad
Warren kills low spark. And viola should always be played with full songs between verses.
Atmosphere is headlining UVM Springfest this Saturday the 26th. Outdoor show, rain or shine. CBW green, 1pm. Tickets are $32, but why bother? Just dbag it and stand outside the fence. ;)
Dave Mason Traffic Jam. Great show with a lot of old classics.

Dave's got a good group of studio musicians, including the lead guitarist from Firefall.
Support live music!
Made the trek south to hang with my bro and check out the legendary Black Sabbath at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend.
It did not disappoint. It was amazing, spectacular, way better than I could've hoped for. Ozzy sounded like he drank from the fountain of youth, cackling and actually singing in key for most of the show, at least until near the end when his voice gotta bit flat. Tony sounded great, maybe not as energetic & frantic as in his youth but solid & tasty throughout. Geezer was a fucking animal! And while I would've loved to see Bill Ward behind the kit, the hired hand Tommy Clufetos was the right man for the job. He was a powerhouse back there and together with Geezer they thumped the show all night long.
As those guys are pushing 70 and could keel over dead tomorrow and no one would bat an eye, I was super stoked to see 'em one more time! It was awesome!
Set list: War Pigs / Into the Void / Under the Sun/Everyday Comes and Goes / Snowblind / Age of Reason / Black Sabbath / Behind the Wall of Sleep / Bassically (Geezer Butler solo) > N.I.B. / End of the Beginning / Faeries Wear Boots / Supernaut snippet > Rat Salad > drum solo / Iron Man / God Is Dead? / Dirty Women / Children of the Grave
Encore: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath snippet > Paranoid
