There are so many to look through it's crazy, someone tell me where to get some for a mini summit of drinking in ny.

gonna see how it snows for the next week, might try and head up to VT late monday night or early tuesday.
for Nu Yawkhuz is this: http://www.meetup.com/SeriousSkiBuddies/ as long as you're willing to ski Cannon and the White Mountains and mix in some ice and mountaineering. This ain't no meetup for losers, the socially handicapped or the "OOooooo, I've always wanted to try that!" dilettantes. Have a look at the trips and decide.
If you climb sport this is a good group to fall in with. It's ski and ice in winter and Rumney the rest of the year.
just thought id post up in here, im up at Fordham University and i'm their college rep for mount snow. Plus i have a Ford Exploder, willing to drive for a little gas money.
here is the facebook group we have for nyc tgr people: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gi...1681498&v=wall

selfish note - brother lives in tucscon and have friends in austin/carolina beach
Anybody know of way to get discount hunter tickets for tomorrow (Dec. 18)??? I think I'll be up there, but probably not skiing hard since I have a broken finger that I'm trying to heal up. Red jacket, white pants, only using one pole and with a cheap ass mitten on the left hand.
Think I'm going to stop by Potters, I'm almost as happy with a PB&J as $15 worth of ski resort food
Hey Mommio,
A lot of my family lives in the outer Philly area suburbs and Dad works in Philly. What most of them usually do when they come up for a visit to Manhattan unless they are visiting me in good ol Brooklyn is to drive to NJ Transit in Trenton and take the train into Manhattan. Check with the station because I think you can pay for overnight parking etc. and it will be far less than what youd pay in NYC. Also, NJ Transit will cost less than Amtrak or a flight. Its our familys tried and true method.
As for what to do, its certainly nice to go up to the Empire State Building - expect a bit of a long queue and be sure to have photo ID and a security check. I think its nicest to go up at night - the city sparkles
Is this your first sojourn to NYC? Id bypass the Statue of Liberty, literally, by taking a roundtrip on the Staten Island Ferry; you get it for super cheap, you get to go by the Statue - well close enough, and most cameras have a zoom lens - and a great view of New York Harbour too, on the return trip as you approach Manhattan again. Almost all of my out-of-town visitors now do this as a satisfying alternative.
I would suggest you check out "Time Out New York" online, if they are online - if not, get one as soon as you arrive into Penn Station to find out the latest and most up to date happenings in the City.
Theres great shopping, great museums - a lot of people overlook the Cloisters - an annex of the Metropolitan museum, which is a truly amazing representation of architecture typical of European classic sites but interesting to see on the upper West side of Manhattan The Museum of the Moving Image is a lot of fun; MOMA; Guggenheim uptown or down in SOHO.
Wandering around Greenwich Village is fun -cool shops, cafes and strange little streets where you never know what youll find.
As for the cruise - I dont know about the Chicago boat - so do you want something with dinner & entertainment? Or do you want something like the Circle line snacks and beverages available which will point things out to you as you circle the island. The two more luxury options would be the Spirit of New York and World Yachts; both are docked on the West Side - dont have their exact Pier numbers but a google search will bring it up.
Theres also Chelsea Piers where there are a multitude of things to do but the most interesting that Ive discovered thus far and its free is a 20 minute enclosed kayaking venture in the Hudson River You can also whack some golf balls if anyone is so inclined, among a bunch of other things but I think the kayaking is the coolest.
I also think its nice to spend some time up on the upper deck of the Seaport, down near Fulton Street. Just get a drink/soft drink and go outside; there are lounge chairs, and just enjoy the view - take in NY as it passes by in the water - tugs pushing barges, various other water craft, take in all three bridges: the Brooklyn, Manhattan & Williamsburg.........just for a little relax, and then after youve had a nice spell, move on. There are shops but most of them are either pricey boutiques or chain stores.
So, theres plenty more info to give - depending upon how many days youll be with us and what are your particular interests? Shout back if you have more questions - Ill be here in Brooklyn, waiting to move, but hopefully just around the corner. I need to come down to PA to get my car inspected but Im suffering from Chronic Fatigue sydrome after getting over Whooping Cough and so I cant make the drive just yet. Luckily, the NYPD doesnt ticket me My Dads in Horsham, my sister is moving to Newtown and the other lives in King of Prussia - anywhere near you?
Waiting here for ya in NYC
^^^wierd. Me thinks we've been PM'ed by mistake...
on a different note.
anyone up for a day trip on saturday from the city to the cats. fresh snow on the way (knock wood)
Hey Kikoversik, how do I find the MOMA? Do I need tickets? Any place good to eat nearby? We'd like to take in a Broadway show, too--advice?
^^gonna have a non-mag crew at belleayre, most likely, unless something crazy happens with these snow bands today.
keep out an eye for the red orage jacket and BRO's in the lift line if you're around there.
anybody toured at all in the cats yet? curious about coverage as I'm finally getting skins for the latest skis this week. Word around hunter last week was pretty sketchy on the hiking trails.
I live in NJ, typically fly out of EWR or Philly, but it looks a whole lot cheaper to get out of JFK to SLC this march. I'm basically wondering how much of a pain in the ass it is to get there from the Upper West Side with skis (I can stay at my GFs place the day before). I'm happy to leave plenty early to get there. Is it a major pain in the ass taking the subway with skis or do you all just take a cab?
I payed 360 for a round trip out of Philly it was a lot cheaper then EWR
uws to jfk?
Subway to the E at 50th... take that to the airtrain. Another 6 bucks or something gets you in that. travel time is under an hour and under ten bucks. i wouldn't want to do it again with more than one pair in the ski bag, but not that bad.
Just moved to NYC, any threads still active on meeting people that want to get up to the hill?
where abouts in nyc are you? the east coast roll call thread is pretty good for meeting people.
its good for meeting people if you don't ski in ny..... lots of mags gonna be at magic this weekend.
I'd be out if I didn't have a brand new job.
Do you have a car? Why don't you let people know you're offering a ride on any pow day to points north. Someone will come skiing with you.
There are a lot of people trying to get out of the nyc area to go skiing all the time.
Unfortunately I am without car. Popping up to Hunter Friday. I'll the be guy on the monoski.
EDIT: But I would totally pay for gas or whatever to get out of here. Be warned I'm a weirdo!
Dave from Brooklyn here. Just did my first day at Plattekill on Sunday. Great little hill despite the hardpack, definitely worth a trip when the snow gets deep.
Anybody thinking about a trip to MRG/Magic/someplace snowy?
I usually head up to magic when it's open and I've got the days off. Where in brooklyn are you?
I'm in Clinton Hill/Ft Greene. My only days off are those weekends the wife lets me off kid duty. BUT I have a car!
Crashed my car last weekend on the way up to Jay Peak so I'll be without wheels for the rest of the season. Anyone know of any bus trips...
In addition, I have a handfull of free lift tickets to Sugar Bush, a 2 for 1 to Sugarloaf, my cousin is one of the snow reporter at Stratton so I can get tickets and a place to crash there, trying to ski Mad River and Tuckerman's Ravine at some point too. If you have trips to any of these places I am happy to share gas, tolls and some of these tickets.
Cheers...
Headed to Jay for 3 days on Thursday night from NYC area, have room in our house. Email me for details. arvist at gmail dot com
