Depends on intended purpose Supre, but I’ve got the Joyrides in that spot. 90 mm underfoot, basically no rocker tip and tail, minimal taper, full twin out back, mount point of -4cm from TC at rec. More effective edge on 2D snow than any other J Ski I’ve tried because of the absence of rocker (especially at the tip).

I’m trying to keep them off of the rails and boxes so they are sharp for firm groomers and pipe skiing. Pretty psyched on them so far for that.

That said, my buddy in MN got Fastforwards for this purpose and is loving them too. Mount point obviously different, as well as the additional weight and titanal in the Fastforwards.

They do have some chatter and a speed limit but it’s high enough for me too. I find them fun on edge and the shorter turn radius does surprise but not in a bad way.
If I’m ripping groomers, I’m picking a different ski than anything 106 underfoot w/ that rocker profile.

They definitely don’t feel heavy to me. I have 183s and will likely size up to 189 next year. They are so freaking easy to slide and pivot around while still rip at high speeds. Incredible skis.

Any thoughts on mounting the Masterblaster (187cm) 1 or 1.5cm behind the line)? I loved the mantra 102s which have a very rearward mountc wondering if going behind the line on these might let them hold an edge a bit more.

Won’t be all that helpful, but would be surprised if mounting back helped. Would only consider it if the ski felt too short. Mantra 102 is a very different ski - much stiffer front half through the tips and more torsionally rigid. You’ll never get a master blaster to have the same edge hold as an m102 on firm conditions.

Fwiw, I love the mantra 102 and the hotshot (haven’t skied the master blaster in a few years but will pick up a 187 for next season). But I ski them very differently and think the recommended mount point on each suits each skis strengths very well.

I have the old Master Blaster with the 96 waist. I’m an old-school very traditional rear mount skier and it took me a little while to get used to being on a more progressive mount, psychologically, but they ski exceptionally well at the recommended point. I now have several progressively mounted skis and I’m quite used to It. Ironically, it feels weird getting on some of my older skis with a traditional mount. I wouldn’t move it. I don’t imagine the new one is all that much different regarding mount point. Enjoy! It has become my go to ski for 80% of my days.

I'm going to have to ski them more, but I didn't find the tips too soft or too low of a speed limit. GPS showed 50mph yesterday on spring corn. I think they are an awesome ski. Fun, but they have enough backbone.

The Friend's have more tip flap, but I only noticed if I was staring at them. They rip variable if I pushed them.

Size matrix doesn't totally jive with me, but I can deal with the 183 Hotshot. I may want the 189 Friend. 186 is my sweet spot (mentally?)

Let's talk in a year. I bet I still love the Hotshot.

Lots more days on both the Friend and Hotshot in the past few weeks.

The Hotshot is my spirit animal. That ski is looking like it'll be my daily driver next year. It's the most intuitive, easy going, poppy, fun ski I've ever been on. I really haven't found a weakness for my style. They don't have quite the razor sharp edge feel of the Enforcer's, but it makes them a lot more drifty (releasable) and fun. I skied them on some AM buffed ice and they worked well enough for those terrible conditions. I'm still loving this ski. I'm looking forward to getting it out on a true pow day to see how it floats.

The Friend is interesting. I've riden it in pow, hardpack, soft corn/slush and a shallow heavy pow day. While I can get lazy and be backseat with the Hotshot, the Friend slaps my ass if I do that. It's a ski that likes to be driven (for me). It's still a very maneuverable ski but you have to be centered or on the front of it. It takes a more active ski style. I like them less when skiing with the kids and more when I'm pushing them. I really feel like they like being in the steep trees and tech terrain. If you're driving them down steep, tech terrain they turn and pivot on a dime. I had a great pow day charging the trees and they just excelled there. Again, they just love an active ski style. I think this ski is still safe in the quiver. It'll probably get retired for the season, but I'm looking forward to skiing it for next year.

Pre Sale is on with a code so I got a pair of Hot Shots to replace my Metals. Paying full price for a pair of skis for the first time in my life doesn't feel great, ha, but I love these skis. A few models already have sizes sold out which sucks, the sale isn't even live to everyone yet. Draplin's design of course is one of them. Bob Ross wasn't sexy enough for me so I passed on that option.


If anyone has a pair of used 187 Hotshots hit me up! If you don't, well, I'm set anyways.

I wish there was a local demo available for them. A few people I ski with have either hot shots or masterblasters but they are all too short for me.

I liked my 183 hotshots so much but they felt short. Just Ordered 187 MB and 189 hotshots. F yeah.

Curious to see what you think. I like the 183 Hotshot, but the 183 Friend feels short. I'd love to try the MB.

I generally like most of my skis a bit back (all my praxis).

I enjoyed the 184 Mantra 102s (measure 183cm tip to tip) when I demod them which have a more rearward mount at -11cm and are a bit more demanding of a ski. 20.5mm of rear rocker.

Masterblasters measure 18cm tip to tip, with 36mm of rear rocker. Factory mount point is -7.75cm

Seems like mount the Masterblasters at -8.75cm could let me drive them a bit harder? But still be playful and the rail will be easier to release

Sweet spot on masterblasters is huge - you’ll have no problem whatsoever at -1, and your thinking is sound

The Masterblaster has longer tail taper than tip taper, whereas Mantra 102s have longer tip taper than tail taper.

Point being, at the same mount point behind the ski center, the Masterblaster is going to feel mounted further back than it would at the same distance behind center on a 102.

eta: Center of effective edge is about 35-40mm further forward on the MB

Funny looking back at this thread from last year. My Friends are gone. Replaced with Praxis Jedi Mind Sticks. I just couldn't get on with them in chopped up snow. I think the 183 was too short.

Hotshots are sticking around. I did get them out in some pow and they float great for what they are. You're down "in" the snow, but they always came back up. Basically what I expect of a 106 wide ski.

183 works for me in tight technical spots. I'm sure the 189 would be fun to let run. I'd love to demo the longer ski, but as a daily driver the 183 is going back into daily duty this year.

I do need a longer charger of a ski. Not sure what that'll be. Cochise, maybe.

I'm picking up the Hotshots I bought in UT a few months ago this weekend and hope to get on them as soon I can get them mounted to my BSL. Psyched to try them out.
