Actually I find snow tires don't grip that well on dry cold roads. My all season tires are much better.
Still, I rock snows in the winter. Not needed, but it's awesome. I used to drive a supra with high performance all season tires and I survived. Quattro + winters = awesome. Wish I could stud them.

Did another day of trail work at Hickory yesterday. Got a little better beta on the failure to open last year. Apparently the pomas were never inspected (doh!). Things are looking better for this season. And, even if they don't "open," plenty of people skinned and skied it last season and will this season. For anyone who skis Winfall this year, you're welcome:

Free seasonal swaps, only cost is just the balancing. The commuter rail station is just down the street from the Tire store. Drop off on the way to work, pay over the phone and pick up on the way home. It is literally no hassle and no extra time....well, not quite...I do have to carry the tires (in tire bags) into and out of their basement storage. Big deal...
Since the purchases are a few years offset, it works out the same as for any family getting milage around 20k/year and instisting on tires fresh enough to resist hydroplaning and have seasonally appropriate grip.
What about the added safety of season-specific rubber compounds providing better adhesion? Look it up, the difference is huge.
Triple-Treads in the three seasons and Altimax Arctics in the snow season...there are better tires but these work great and don't break the bank.

do you have to have bought both sets of tires from the same place to get the free swaps? I bought Dunlop snows for my old accord wagon and the tire place wanted to charge me regular price cuz I only bought the snows from them as I was still using the all seasons that came on the car when I bought it. they ended up doing the swaps for 1/2 price as I asked them to as I had at least bought that set there:)Quote:

Absolutely clear blue skies this morning, not a branch stiring. looks wonderful out although a bit nippy at 23`. Picked the last of my tomatoes last Tuesday and now looking at snow covered slopes.

picked up a nuther 5 inches over the last 4-5 days or so. makes 7.1" for the month. just over half of the annual October average. may pick up a nuther inch or so in the next 36 hrs. don't think we're gonna make average for like the 62 month in a row, save for a few. ah well:) boy would I love a nuther spring of 08' up high. c'mon average snow!
