I'll be gone Thursday through Sunday, so expect it to snow this weekend. You're welcome.
Sorry, being a Giants fan and with them playing so many post-season games this year, that song has been drilled too deep into my brain to be properly suppressed for at least a couple of years.
Powdork - I liked your video a lot more than some in the past. What was different? Hmm..... ;-)
Been finding some unconsolidated snow mixed with windboard and styrofoam in protected ne-facing areas. Can't seem to figure out how to post photos. http://www.tetongravity.com/photos/D...g-18514739.htm http://www.tetongravity.com/photos/D...g-18514747.htm
Snow this week. Sweet.

Temps look good.

Mmmmm.
And for the geeks out there, here is some Juneuary data. The average dry streak for Donner Lake during Dec-Jan is about 21 days. Seasons with longer dry streaks are, as one would expect, characterized by large temperature range days (cold clear nights, warm sunny days). Last year was the worst dry spell at 49 days. Happens all the time, they say. Well, here's proof. Data courtesy of the Western Regional Climate Center.

Tallac was beat to hell. North facing trees on the east ridge were decent till you got low. - sat
Twin peaks and grouse were pretty good today.
Windblown but nice and decently smooth.

A little snow this weekend wouldnt hurt.
Was easy to make this mistake with 50+ forecast highs at upper elevations at one point during the week. Between low sun angle, radiational cooling, wind, and the temps coming back down a bit I agree a bit more melt would've helped. Got out Sunday and was surprised how well some north facing, shaded aspects were holding up. Of course, we ended up on the southerly aspects.
The little patches of soft, smooth wind deposits sure were fun where you could find them, but the crusty sun cups covering most of the slope -- not so much.

Hiked powderhouse on sun & dropped into the NE cirque area. Snow was still holding up really well. Lots of great mini golf in there. Everything from par 3's to huge par 5s. A little refresher would be nice

Okay, I get the mini-golf references, but someone please explain the grading system to me.
What if there is a spinning windmill blocking the entrance to the chute????
Spent last 3 days at Kirkwood (big surprise) exploring the usual haunts. Daily morning laps with the kid prior to ski lessons, followed by hiking, traversing, and skiing on some variable snow was the name of the game. But a father/son ski mission yesterday was the icing on the cake.
Thunder Bowl on Saturday - I skied V-tree but cut into the chute on lookers left due to the snow changing to blue ice on the exposed line...ouch.

Boulevard West Shore was a bit firm but grippy, steep, ice patchy and EXTREME!

yeah i'm digging the tall mode since it seems tall enough to get what i want without going vertical. the other nice thing though is that if i do go vertical, it will be wider than before too. seems to handle exposure better as well and the mike is a bazillion times better.
the pictures from our three days on stevens are up
Am I supposed to get excited about Wednesday night's storm? I had planned on not riding Thursday. NOAA is saying 1-2" only above 7k. From the looks of it it ain't gonna do shit except make for a potential low end sleeper day. What about this weekend's storm 213? Give us some hype!
Had to go see about alll that Granjero fun for myself. I'd say it's now ready for that Powdiction refresher.

"GFS is more bullish on the latest run this afternoon with the moisture coming up from the South on Saturday. Still only halfway to the other models with a foot for the weekend instead of 2 but it's trending the right direction."
6" at Lake Level is good enough to reset the backcountry. It desperately needs it. I'm jonesin' to center punch my favorite runs on a clean slate. I'm not gonna be greedy. A foot would be amazing.
Did some backyard explorations yesterday and found really good snow but holy shit I experienced the worst skin glopping in my entire life at the end of the day. And that was with glop stopper applied.
fyi, I just looked at the GFS and it doesn't look promising for this weekend at all but obv I have no idea as I'm not a meteorologist. As for now I'm hedging my emotions by not expecting anything out of it.
there are certain spots that are prolly not really a good idea to talk about on the internet. especially certain subzones of the most travelled bc spot in s lake. unless you enjoy finding your line tracked.
i am all about sharing things w/ all the folks that contribute here, but the reality is that there are 10x more lurkers who contribute nada and only take take take. i used to think it not to have a significant impact but i have seen that is not the case.
sorry, not trying to be a buzzkill but...........its truth
