^^^ Gripen that video rocks. One hell of a Valentines day present.
Skied the lake today as well. Saw your guys tracks off the mini cornice. Skied the bowl just left and snow was pretty soft. I do have to say you guys are hurting for snow, boney. Snowing a little in Golden, but not expecting to much.
Anyone skiing KH tomorrow that wants to get out for some farther out slack country?
Fuck I want to live in Golden, that looked amazing.
Here's some stoke from January. First an edit mostly from the Dive opening and following few days along with a few random shots:

And then some from the Wild West and some slack:

I'll be hunting moguls tomorrow. Holla'

Question from the other side of the pond:
We'll be heading your way next monday, what should I bring? Pontoon or Pro Rider xxl?
Is any pow on the way? Are there any freshies to be found without having to walk for an our?
Thanks from an Euro Maggot.
They're about as accurate as the Weather Network. As with any forecast, they are all computer generated, proving that anyone can become a meteorologist, case in point, Wesla Wong on Global Vancouver. Snowforecast uses real time data from Yoho park or the Golden Airport (depending on the time of day as the airport doesn't start reporting until around 6am). They should have at least tapped into KH's remote stations.
The Weather Network usually over forecasts the amount of snowfall whereas Enviro. Can. predicts it a bit closer to actual. Take a look at Unisys weather, they provide great raw data to formulate your own forecasts with.
So "reading week" skiing starts for me on Sunday, going to 8 days in a row! Super stoked to be recovered and back at it, should be some good times. Given the snow I plan on mainly back country, might warm up the first few days at a resort. Anyone up for some touring this week?
Thursday the plan is to go and camp in Roger's pass, and ski as many lines as possible in 4 days- anyone interested?
It's supposed to snow every day starting tomorrow...
That surface layer is going to get real touchy if the forecast comes true. Be selective in which lines you decide to tick off the list.
Glad though that the tap (cross fingers) might get turned on again. I was tempted to go into the rail park today due to the lack of fresh snow, but realized that would likely end in disaster.
Hey golden locals, I'm coming to town tomorrow with a few hundred of my buddies and our kids, we would appreciate it if you stayed off the hill and didn't jam up the gondy line for us. ;)
I can't wait to wait tomorrow, stoked! Maybe if I'm lucky, I might even get a run or two in! Sometimes, I wish my wife and kid would tour and I could avoid the shit show that is tomorrow. Oh well.
If you see someone tomorrow and think, damn that's the best skier on the mountain, come say hi, I'm friendly :)
Pretty rad gripen. That chute looks big.
This might not be too bad: Cirque peak approach from west, lodge.
That's cirque and 93. Route is a rough estimate since I've never been there. I think people usually go along the ridge.. Good idea?? Bad idea??
I could pick someone up or pitch gas money/beer. Anyone down?
Edit: Same deal if you've got a better idea btw..
If you want Cirque then go this way like everyone else does, there's a reason why.

The summit ridge is windblown down to scree....you won't be skiing back down it at this time.
That approach is long. Im after a awy straight up and over the ridge and to the col then down the north facing stuff.
So ya sketchy dropping over the ridge. I kinda thought it might be.. No plans are set in stone. I'm just sorta checking it all out tomorrow or sunday I think.
Edit: wind blown to scree huhh..
Post killed.
Observation Sub Peak is a good tour if the conditions are right (I have not idea if they are or not, I did this a couple years ago). Go up the drainage between it & Cirque, up the headwall, continue left (as in the google image). There was a short scramble somewhere near the top. We skied back down right & back into the drainage then back to the road. Hopefully this makes sense (?) - I don't know how to put lines on google earth.
There was an option of a lap down the ?? glacier behind from the summit.

@ angrysamsquantch The big cliff (BIG cliff) on Whitewall that you stare at on the chairway to heaven. I'm not sure if that's prosperity (could very well be). Sometimes it's referred to as the clifftoris.
Pretty sure that you'll be ok, most will avoid the hill this weekend, unless there's a fair amount of new snow, which there isn't:( Although it seems to be puking right now.
This weekend reminds me of when Colorado gets invaded by Texans during Christmas. But I guess next year we can go to Alberta on our new family day weekend and.........well I'm not really sure. Time to go poke around up the B road and see what there is left for snow.
RCR accurate snow reporting is in full effect at KH. It seems that they're reporting 4cm of fresh powder but on the advanced weather data it's not adding up.
The main thing I wanted to check out is the North facing valley between cirque and that sub-peak to its west. The point was to do it with one car. :nonono2: Climbing cirque would be nice but its secondary.
Looks like you might need to carry skis to the top of that sub peak then maybe down to the col. since that ridge could be tricky.. could be tricky anyway. Observation subpeak is on the hit list too. Last time I was there we didn't take your route and ended turned back half way then headed over to bow. :nonono2:
I freagin bailed today. I got talked out of it by a negative influence. :nonono2: Tomorrow its on though. What did you find today t2c?
Guessing all bets are off for a while if there's decent snow overnight. Looks like steady light snow all week.
It was all there. More on the ridges courtesy of that little breeze we had.
On another note, I lurk a lot here but really don't post much. I've long preferred that feeling of smug superiority newschoolers offers even the dumbest monkey (read: me). But then I noticed that there's pretty much nobody from KH there, and the ones there are just want to build booters and lobby for a bigger park. So I will start posting more here I think, which is why I'm introducing myself in this thread. The name's Matt, I ski KH and have an orange helmet and pants. Hard to miss.
Anyway, that's the roll call part of the thread title taken care of for me. I'll try to provide some stoke to go with it as well.
