Cold dry, chalk dust in southern Vermont. Windy but all lifts were running. Felt so good to see the sunshine. Feels like it’s been a minute. Got on the hill at 1:15, single six packs, all afternoon.

What'd you think of the new dukes?

I found a pair locally yesterday so I haven’t had them long. I hiked for 3 miles today on them and they seemed decent. I have heard of some toe issues but they seemed ok. They aren’t that heavy. Lighter then a frame for sure. They skied really well on the downhill. Just like a jester. So I don’t really have any complaints.
I’ll be on them all week so I guess I’ll see how it goes.
Side note.... I’m tempted to pull the toe off and put inserts in for the duke toe and the jester toe and be able to change the toes on that ski and leave the heel on it all the time. But then again full warranty, so who cares.
WORTH IT!

Braved the sub zero temps today and it was worth it. Still a bit thwacky in the steeps but there's plenty of snow in the Jay backcountry and no wind once you got in the trees

^Right on, Ridge_skier. Been years since I’ve been out in the Jay bc but thinking that terrain looks familiar. Snow quality looks stellar. Nice work!
Guy buried on the rock pile...no beacon, probe, or shovel.
Guys running on Lafayette loses shoe, so shoeless, needs rescuing.
Seriously, what in the fuck.

oh, did I mention? skiing is fun!
Solid work everybody ^^^
There is fun to be found outside of VT, if you can believe it. Greylock delivered the goods yesterday. As suspected, the Thunderbolt had been skied into softish bumps Saturday, but I managed to find some shin-deep pow on some of the lesser-travelled lines nearby. And I didn't even have to break travel restrictions to do it.
No action shots, unfortunately. But the bellows pipe shelter sure looked impressive to my eyes, which have been staring out of my home office window at green grass for about a month now.

NWS says a little more on the way...
We did our first little inside VT vacation this past weekend, 2 nights at Chittenden brook hut. Was a blast, climbed up to bear brook, broke quite a bit of trail, did a lap and back to the hut, drank a bit of gin.
My wifes feet were done, so I did a lap at no name from the main Brandon Gap lot after we skied out from the hut. Couldnt beleive we were one of the 3 cars with VT plates. VERY even mix of NY, NJ, MA, CT, RI plates in the lot. Did a quick one and split. Never saw anyone on any of the the trails, so theres that.
Limiting myself to Mount Washington area (all my relatives from the Conway area who spent time in hospital were down at Maine Medical so I figure it is in my geography) and Maine. Low snow for sure our way. Very jealous of all the pictures from Vt. and those folks in Quebec. I got scared ice skating on the marsh stream today so there’s that
Another beautiful day in southern Vermont

^^^Is that Upper Downeaster under the chair? That's so rarely open. Goes to show how much snow is in SVT right now.
Take this thread to 11. Solid!
And be careful on the road

If that's the skin track, along the ridge to Big Jay it looks pretty slayed ! Never seen so many cars at the Big Jay pullout on 242. Hardly a secret now.
First skier pic, Strawberry Fields?
I went somewhere, less traveled on Friday..Attachment 359615Attachment 359616
Putting a feeler out there to see if I can find anyone for local NYC area pickup on these as I currently don’t have any boxes to ship the skis. I could ship the boots. I’d post in the Keep Kids Skiing thread if I could ship.
153 cm Volkl Shiro Jr. Mounted twice and currently sized for 298mm BSL. Bases could use a good stone grind but no major damage. I’m pretty sure they’ve never been tuned (or maybe once).
250-255 Technical Bodacious Jr. (298 BSL). Worn maybe a dozen times. “Current” boots on the Shiros.
26.0-26.5 Nordica NXT 50 (305 BSL). These are well worn as they were a used lease boot when we got them.
Scott 110 cm poles.
Pics to come in a few.

Beautiful day for a ski date with my wife at Saddleback. Low tide in the trees and glades, but exceptional snow on the groomers and plenty of space to let ‘em run. New lift is speedy and smooth providing lots of laps. The ‘Back is back!
Wow
