snowing hard here all day in South Fork. Seems like this could be biggest storm yet this season. Hope all these Texans can ski powder.
Freezing rain up to 11K today. So that was fun.
Raining in telluride.
20 in the last 24 i am out the door
Steady fat flakes this morning in Vail. Merry Christmas everyone
Amazing wind event yesterday, huge transport above treeline with swirling so watch for wind pockets below the usual points and in unusual locations... at least it was warm. Touring yesterday came with free exfoliation near the divide in Summit
Ridges were scoured but below the ridge the wind had worked its magic. Attachment 195877
^Thumbs up.
Humidity, lack of vis, and wind made it kinda brutal, but snow and vibes were great. Christmas always seems to deliver in that sense.
Merry all.
So friggin windy.
Windy af up here tonight. Supposed to be peaking some time in the next few hours. Smoked the anemometer. Peak gust so far is probably in the 125 range... Strongest wind so far this year. Maybe last year too. Got nothing on 2011 though... Yet, anyway.
Holy smokes. Some of the strongest winds I've ever driven in on 70 and 93 on the way home today. Wind blown stuff was damn good damn in places at Breck. Everything up top was closed of course. Reading that it was gusting around 90 in Boulder. CAIC reported that it gusted around 131 on Red Mountain Pass last night. Which is insane. Mt. Washington type shit.
Watched the wind yesterday at Copper starting to stir things up. Ridge lines were a blur. It's been end of the world windy in Golden all day. Waiting for the tree to blow into my house. That will be a good time.
Just had one of the strongest gusts we've had since I've lived here... The measured record is 141... That was the 2011 storm. I think the siding might be peeling off the west side of the house.. I also think I'll wait until tomorrow to check...
Here's a fun Mountain Living game:
How do you know it's windy?
I'll start...
1. Your ears pop, inside.
2. You can hear the water splashing in the toilet from the next room.
3. You're watching an action movie, but you can't tell if the movie is using a shaky camera effect, or if that's just your TV rocking back and forth.
4. ?
God Damn, I have trouble sleeping if it's blowing 40. hunker down, bub.
9600'... But right on the saddle dividing two valleys, looking at Witter, Eva, CO Mines, etc to the west, and GGSP to the east. It's oddly calm here most of the time (compared to G-Town or Alice) but when it gets going, hold the fuck on... Chainsaw is already in the truck. Don't expect to be getting far without it.
the dead fall was all covered be interesting to see how much new we have tomorrow.
My ears popped going down morgul Bismarck in Superior (Xmas w the family). Now that is windy
I saw peak 8 got 95mph winds last night on the caic weather station page. That's the highest I saw there, but didn't dig around that much.
Seems to be easing off... Consistent with the forecast. Still some pretty solid gusts, but easing none the less. Tomorrow am, some hard ass from Michigan is going to duck a boundary rope in a recco jacket, and some aspect somewhere is either going make him think he's in heaven, or maybe it'll arrange the whole trip.
Official highest gust was 110 on gold hill in Boulder county...pretty breezy, hunker down!
Had my kids playset get blown through the family room window yesterday afternoon in Arvada, so I believe all of the foothill measurements.
STFU, what did your max gust top out at on the saddle? I had clients up there a while back that said the same thing, when it went hard, it was kinda scary!
