and that's totally fine. What I am talking about is this example: a friend tells me that they went to King Soopers last week, had someone take their name/# for "extras" (they aren't currently eligible and didn't lie about that), and got called 2 days later and got vaxxed, then when I go to King Soopers to try and do the same I am told that there is no list, they never had a list, and there is no way anyone got called because they were on a list. When I know it happened.
It's the abject lying, and the apparent luck of the draw depending on who you talk to, that's infuriating. I'm ok if there are no extras or there is no list; I'm not ok with being told that when I know people who got on the list.
That's not necessarily true. I know of a few people who have gotten extras at the tent because of no shows, but they happened to be spouses of volunteers working that day and I don't think it has happened very often. I think they are running it pretty tight so they aren't keeping a running list for extra's that I know of.
When I made my online appointment through CMC it was very easy. Basically just need name and DOB. They had all my other important info when I showed up because my primary care provider is through them too.
Most of these places are booking on line and if you have her info, it's super duper easy. There weren't many questions beyond name, phone number, DOB, address. They take your insurance and whatnot when you get there.
Check Community Medical Center's website and just do it for her. Can she receive texts? They will also text you right away. Bonus, they make the vax spot super easy to find on their campus. Lots of bright green signs.
Funny opening up this thread and reading the discussion. We had appointments 3 hours from home on Wednesday in the middle of Trump country, but they didn't have enough appointments scheduled to finish off a Moderna 10 dose vial so they asked us to move the appt up a day, to today (Tuesday). We did. Just got shot up.
I qualified as an essential worker and my wife for pre existing health conditions (2x asthma and RA meds which suppress her immune system). We made the appointment on Saturday after we became eligible in Iowa. The appointment was in Illinois and I discovered on Sunday that I wasn't qualified in most of Illinois which is in Phase 1B. I called to cancel, but they asked me what I did and verified that I was Phase 1C. They encouraged me to keep the appointment because at this location there is available supply and this location had opened up for 1C.
Anyway, the super kind WalMart pharmacist tech said it was Chicago people all day. The couple ahead of us was from St. Louis, 2 plus hours away. We were the last people with appointments today and they had one extra so another tech walked around trying to give it away...without success before we left.
Now off to DQ to celebrate.

That's my main issue all over it seems. The "system" is too easily gamed and, at least here in nyc, I see reports of 70+ year olds having issues, but people younger than me (50) get the shot. Tbh most are getting it cause they're fucking fat and lazy (these are those I know not generalizing), and I think it's bullshit.
Plenty happy to wait my turn and I have no health issues that move me closer, but those that really need shots, teachers, elderly can't find them. Bs all around.

I think we're going to be at this for a long time w continually revised formulas to keep up w the mutations so we could be looking at 2 flu vaccines a year until it's finally tamped down. Based on the number of US anti-vaxxers alone we could have a c19 floating around for years though.
My kid got the J&J last Saturday so I hope it's the best one.
It's different County to County. around here it's just a signup through the various counties plus a few other spots. It's been spot on other than the occasional person gaming the system, but it's so few that nobody has been too worried about it that I've talked to.
Newsom just changed the allotment rules again in CA--not who qualifies, just where they send the most doses. Several sites recently have had to cancel a lot of appts (90,000 in one case) because doses they had been promised went somewhere else. As if it isn't hard enough already.
I took my 95 year old father in law to get the first Moderna shot today and it was right at the end of the day so I asked if there were any extra doses available. The nurse said yes and asked me if I qualify and I answered yes, heart attack 2 years ago and a few partially blocked arteries. She said I definitely qualify then asked where I live so I told her and she said "sorry we can't stick you here, you live in the wrong county". I asked what she was going to do with the extra doses and she said they have to dispose of them. What the ever living fuck...
UC Health in Denver has been kicking ass. They are starting 50+ this week.
My 21yo daughter got jabbed last week, but she works directly with covid samples at CDC so she got to jump the queue.
I am pulling the 10PM-6AM volunteer shift tonight at a massive vaccination site (all volunteers receive 1st and 2nd doses of Pfizer), as a healthy 30 something I figure its worth it. No telling how soon I would get vaccinated otherwise.
Source on that?
"Kicking ass" isn't quite how I'd describe it. You need to do everything thru their My Health Connection app and until last week there was no way to enter any information about what phase you qualify for (profession related). Other providers in the Front Range have offered the ability to do that for weeks now. It's stupid that you have to go through individual health systems though rather than it being centralized by county or better, state.
My wife works for UCHealth BTW. They have done some things well in the pandemic, other things not so well. They did get her vaxxed very early.
This is my understanding too of how it is supposed to work.
We got our shots in Aspen Sunday. I have to say the sense of community and gratitude was pretty cool.
We saw lots of people we knew, both volunteers and innoculees.
Everybody seemed really glad to be there.
Very well organized and quick and efficient.
Other than a headache and an overwhelming urge to buy more Microsoft products I feel fine.
