Thanks, us too. So good.
Always thought it presumptuous to claim a first.
Specially nowadays.
Better to claim a first known one.
Better yet to say nothing and leave the adventure unknown for the next comer...

So true.
I've said this here before. It was an honor and great experience to have dinner with Bob Bates and his wife Gail yrs ago. To hear all his stories and especially attempting K2 in 1938! Insane.
There's always a chance someone has been there before you.
Last episode was pretty funny Bikes, 4x4s and hiking for corn snow with a great crew

Congrats!
This should be the mantra for all mountain travelers going forward

I love the truck that just decided to park on the road with "REALLY?!?!?" written into the dust.
it's funny to extoll doing cool stuff but not telling people about it in a thread about a project of doing cool stuff with friends and making/sharing videos about it and all of us enjoying consuming it
There’s a difference between Average Joe and a spancered athlete.
I really enjoyed this series of videos but if someone else did this and told no one did it still mean something? Of course

You're not wrong!
For me it kinda goes both ways I guess. I appreciate both sides. I've known some people that have done really cool stuff and didn't tell many people about it and I certainly appreciate Cody sharing this adventure. Before all the social stuff shit would go down all over like the JHAF guys or whomever and you might read about it a year later in powder mag. It's just a different time and I appreciate the old school and the new school.
I've skied the n face of every mtn in the world just never thought to mention it.
Such a tease.
Love the nepotism.
Looking forward to these episodes coming soon.
We appreciate you.

Nothing about Bjarne?
Indy is on the job this year.
Cody/Hyperlite pack plus?
I’m not sure I agree with the “plus” part of the model, although there’s not much info yet.
I can see it being a good resource for those who are struggling to find the correct route info and gear for mountaineering.
On the other hand, everyone is essentially eating all this content up in video form, so maybe a bespoke “how to ride rad lines” website isn’t that controversial.
We will have to see what happens when he launches it.

it will be fun to watch
and it will be as relevant as ever
If I was still skiing via tents and chasing big shit, I'd be all over this. Heck, I'm still all over it. I'm older, wiser, maybe dumber, definitely cooled down a bit, but I can still see that subscription worth buying for something as a planning foundation to my retirement years.
"Hey sweetie, check out these 2 big lines. I'm gonna attempt them in March of ~~ year. Cool?"
Being able to explain those intricacies to people like my wife who admittedly don't really get it is gold.
Even at 48, I want to be honest about my goals. And even going storm skiing, she's like-- don't trigger anything today. I have a rule, don't ski avalanchy terrain when you have kids in the house. I don't suspect that rule will change much even when the kids graduate. Having Cody & team outline approaches, challenges, cruxes, etc... will do nothing but gain her support for when I want to ski big shit. It'll expose the dangers, but also how we think about them.
Major applause to this model. I'll definitely subscribe for both the knowledge myself, but also the knowledge it'll give to those I'm trying to educate about my plans. I have no plans to ski The Fifty. But I would love to ski a bunch of those lines. And with an outlined video guide by legit heroes? Are you kidding me?
I just witnessed a problem get solved that I have been battling for decades-- Family understanding what's going on in Papa's head.
It used to be-- "Sign in to the trail log, tell people where you're going." but now it's-- "Now you can show them before you go."
"But that's gonna flood these lines with people."
Maybe. I pioneered my dinky local resort's forests. I was literally the only guy skiing them for a good 5 years. And, let me be the first to admit that it was a relief when I started to see other people in my lines. I could hear their cheers, and I knew they would be my help if something slid, or went wrong. I was relieved at the party.
Remember that dude Cody and Bjarne saved? Yeah. More people isn't always bad. And education is pretty much always good.
I've only got one first descent that I know of. But there are a few seasons in tents where I would have been stoked if there were other tents around. Being alone is both romantic and creepy.
The Fifty Lives... in a Plus format during a recent Salomon Film tour. I caught the SF stop and Cody and Elise were gettin after it outside of Girdwood AK. I suspect it will come out post tour with possible more adventures Cody has been getting into. Just know the Fifty Plus lives. Thanks Team.
I don't need the plus info but might consider subscribing just to support the man's efforts. The Fifty gave me and my wife many hours of viewing pleasure for sure.
You kind of nailed it, it's more of a 'bespoke' website and newsletter for those that want more information, more writing, more beta and more insider thoughts about everything from gear to the ski business. The FIFTY+ videos will still live on YouTube for Free. Bonus content is going to go behind a paywall because it takes a lot of work to make it and compensation helps me keep accountable to the audience. For now, I'm keeping the website free, just have to start an account. Eventually I may move everything behind a paywall but we'll see when and if that happens.
This is how the downward spiral to only fans starts.
Gotta respect the hustle.
Pick up a hard drug habit start sitting on traffic cones for views hey a man has to provide for his family
Not all spirals are downward.
Excited to see where this goes. More and more I'm happy to pay for content I enjoy - or maybe it's feeling more and more guilty about free content I consume (TGR aside of course)
Isn't there some old TGR thread on "the 51" - ie, what different mags think should be next on the classics list? I'd search, but it won't work... you get what you pay for here
My idea was to do a video series on the best burritos in each state - but first a brief montage of me and a guest bumbling our way up and down a nearby backcountry line.
It would be called “The Thrifty”
Sponsors please PM me directly
Benny profane and dunfree will bankroll this ^
There is no way to lose on this one..
I'm down to support the fifty plus site.
Could be a good way to get a new message board up and running so when this place goes tits up all us denizens can gather there
A small subscription to help maintain the site and directly support Cody and team so he doesn't have to do only fans
Excited for new films!
The paid content sounds awesome but I won’t be subscribing, I’m just tapped out in that department, but I understand why the media business has transitioned to that model. I hope one day I’ll be able to buy this content traditionally….
Best of luck to Cody!

Yeah. Tapped out and this goes onto a list of subscriptions I want but just can't. I do only ski on Soly binders, use a knife he recommended on the fifty, and recently took a bottle (In a smart water bottle) of Tincup on a backcountry trip, eat Honey Stingers with peanut butter, etc. Cody endorsed products seem to find a way into my possession and 100 percent I buy this stuff (except the binders) because of him. Too bad his spancers don't realize his true value.

Writing an article about “selling out” and putting it behind a paywall is a little ironic?
I don't think there is any way to win being a pro skier. Rough to grind out a 30 plus yr career. What does Seth Morrison do these days?
That’s funny, when I search for Fifty+, OF and Pornhub keeps popping up. Didn’t know you liked the Olds, Alka!
For real though, I’m stoked you’ve developed a business that can support your habit, and hopefully for a long time to come. Cracking this code is a tough one - maybe the hardest thing a pro athlete in a non-major sport can do? So, huzzah and hell yeah.

I'd be a subscriber to both the Fifty+ and only fans. Both would give me enormous viewing pleasure.
