I spent my first season in Ellmau in the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental of Austria in 1993/94.
We were skiing knee deep powder to village level in late November (I was mostly falling) and by the time the end of March rolled around my company (Crystal Holidays) were sending my guests to higher resorts in Austria and France because the lower slopes were threadbare/closed.
It was t-shirt weather in the village, well in to the high teens C.
Up high it was still snowing and we enjoyed great conditions through to mid-April.
Ellmau is between 820m and 1,525m.
One isolated example I know, but not much has changed in my experience.
Some seasons are early to early.
Others are late to late.
Every once in a while we get early to late and unfortunately late to early.
