One ridge over from here in the steeper slack was down right dangerous, be careful if your heading out into the BC today

At 8:30 i waited 5 minutes in my car in the parking lot at squaw, trying to motivate to go skiing.
After waiting till 10:30 in and out of the line at red dog, called it a day.
The issue was the high winds on top.
Tomorrow, wed and Thursday.

Red Dog under high winds is one of the scariest chairlift rides in the country. Wish they'd actually pull the trigger on that new high speed quad they permitted a few years back where it would add an extra pole or two and make it less wind exposed.
heave skied awesome today. thought itd b too deep but nope. actually had to use a smoke shack for the first time all year due to absolute nukeage making lift riding attitude adjusting inadequate. tracks from first thing were filled in by 11. all aboard the blowtown express!!!
Issue with that is now the Squaw Alpine gondola. My understating is that per the agreement with the Sierra Club not to litigate, the Squaw gondola bottom terminal would need to be moved to the current location of the Red Dog bottom terminal. This necessitates moving the upgraded Red Dog terminal 600 ft to the east by the Red Dog buildings that house ski teams, dispatch, patrol etc. The Red Dog detachable upgrade just got a whole lot more expensive but it takes the gondola out of the disputed 'wilderness'. Squaw is now proposing a Red Dog detachable 6 along this new alignment.
No snow in San Francisco...yet.
High temps in the 40's, maybe some flurries on Twin Peaks by dawn? Hmmmmm
I was wondering when my plow guy was going to show up, turns out he's been here 3 times. The snow just keeps blowing in and filling the low spots (ie my driveway). Nowhere to go anyway. At least the power is back. Hoping for some turns tomorrow. Wife is getting cabin fever. I'm hiding the knives.
^^ Meet you halfway at Tam? ;-)
Edit: oops, that was for skier666
Don’t worry, Mark. Everyone knows The Resort With No Name is merely an intermediate paradise with mellow groomers as far as the eye can see. Besides, anyone who has to ask isn’t going to find those stashes hidden in plain sight anyway.
check the cal trans and nevade DOT web sites for road info. That may make your decision for you. 80 is closed at the moment. Are you staying on Donner Pass Rd or a side street? After a huge dump like this one it can take a while for the side streets to get plowed, especially the public streets. Some of Donner Lake is private streets--these usually get plowed faster. Be prepared to shovel your way through a berm between the road and the driveway, unless you get lucky. I assume your landlord will have the driveway plowed.
Blower has officially arrived. We just went for a stroll onto the closed 88 and the last 10" or so that has fallen is very light. It's now coming down hard with very little wind.Attachment 268121

Twin Peaks is at 925 feet. I'll go for recon after kid drop off tomorrow.
Yeah, OG makes a good point ^^^
Personally like the NVroads app/site. It has an up to date graphic of current road conditions. Chain control, closure, holds...
Easier to get general overview than the DOT.CA.GOV site.
(Actually starting to build up down here in CC. The dry backyard of the Sierra)

Agreed. Heavenly was *almost* too deep and the wind kept refilling the snow. Driving out was a bit of a shit show. Plenty of stuck cars and saw a Hummer drive into a snowbank and getting past the crux of the drive. Back at the house, the snow we cleared was some of the lightest I have seen on Tahoe in a long time.
Did you happen to ride up with some dude on Stagecoach who was talking about some ski app he was building?
Heave was indeed fantastic this morning. Ended up on the 3rd chair on Stagecoach and then lapped North Bowl once Olympic opened. Headed back out after getting some work done at 3:00 for some refills on Gunbarrel.
Nah was hitting gunny this morning. Don’t know if it’s the same guy but I was approached about some mountain bike / backcountry ski thing someone was building they where gonna pay decent money for suppling info with routes and photos, sounded suspiciously like work to me so I turned it down.

I've been wanting to hit Junipero Serra for a few years now. I can see it fro my kitchen window, and is a few hours from here. At well over 6K, there is sure to be a decent base on the top 1000 feet. Just trying to organize a day this week to make a go of it. Although I fear the hike to snow line will take some time. Might just go check out Castle Rock instead.
why don't you come to KW with me on Wednesday instead.
you can dig me out if/when I happen to faceplant (this does actually scare me a little when skiing solo on big days)
Heading to SLT tomorrow night and planning on skiing kirkwood Wednesday through Sunday. I have space in my car and cabin for 2-3. PM me if you want to join.
Like wow dude...
Currently no way in and out.
80, 50, and 88 closed
