And maybe encouraging an interest in building stuff is an added bonus.

Sweet Jaypow. It’s as fun to build with the kids as to enjoy the final product.
This morning my daughter and I finished up a really small project she helped me with. Have a recessed area near the kitchen that just has an ugly old land line phone jack and I would put my keys on the small shelf but they kept falling off. If I lived in East LA I may toss a statue of the Virgin Mary there. Found a cool cast iron octopus up on Orcas last weekend and turned it into a key hang with Thing 1. She helped measure cut and stain.

I framed the second story addition of our house. After I had the subfloor in my 3 yr old son would be up there with me while I worked. One day I found him sitting on the ground in the back yard with a chunk of 2 x 4 between his legs. He had a hammer and a 16d nail he was pounding into the wood, all the while saying "oh, shit, oh shit."
The grill I got on discount didn’t have a cabinet below. No biggie, I thought, I don’t really need that anyway. Well, it’s apparently good for keeping the dogs out of the drip pan, as well as keeping them from pushing the drip pan aside and pushing up the loose laid flavorizer bars which can be licked once upturned.
So, I got some z-metal from HD & fashioned a barricade on the rear of the frame. I may yet need another row of metal. I’m going to wait and see how this first effort works out.

^^^^ I built that 15 years ago for my Boyz, except it was a skate ramp and sat on the long side.
That is fucking awesome. They will be like, oh, when I was 8, I couldn't touch the coping.
Then, they will jump over it. Bravo, Dad! Clap.
Finally finished the deck, not quite a year later, :)
Time to get on to the interior...

Didn't really "make" this. Was the middle of a pallet I had from recent construction project. Cut the long ends off, sanded, added the sides from other gathered pieces of the pallet. Oiled with some 2nd gen oil with a hardener added, can't recall name. Added 1" pipe legs and fittings. I'm far from a carpenter. Bored again. Also don't know if I "made" it or simply had an idea and assembled it but anyway...
Wife and I have been hunting for a console table for inside the entry door. We have been finding meh...other night I had a plan I'd hatch the next am.
Old fence in the yard. Been in the woods a while, looks like old owners may have used it for some sort of garden. Went over and had a look and sure enough I figured I could use some of it for the console tabletop. Grabbed some worn boards and the orbital. Few hours later, few grades of paper, and some formbys Tung oil and boom. Console tabletop.
Now the hunt for legs.

You can get pretty nice hairpin legs on amazon for cheap.
Finally got around to the kitchen island the wife wanted. Framed it with 2x leftover from a job, old fence boards from wood shed, and bought the butcher block countertop. Open underneath but need to get electrical in before I finish shelving underneath. Attachment 296249Attachment 296250

My rickety oven door handle finally broke off.
Upgraded to a chique 2 clove hitch model.
It's like the blue star or hotpoint or whatever of the mountain world. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...adba083b55.jpg
^Some nice work in here, but MTM, that is just totally off the charts and beautifully done. Nice work dude.
Really like the pro touch taking it to the next level, too: 1964-2019 protective bacon grease layer(s). Need to carbon date this heirloom.
Snoqpass... that is some seriously nice work. Saved from the dumpster/landfill :yourock:
another word for scum
Yes, but really classy scum.

I made a lamp, among some other things. Happy with this one though.
