Sweet! How does the weekend of August 19 or 20th sound? Or later? I'm getting the bike tuned up with some new parts (chain, sprockets, new filters, brake pads) on the 18th, so I'm good to go after that.Quote:

Actually, if you look at it, I don't see how that can be... Adding a supercharger isn't going to boost performance that much. Turbo maybe, but not a supercharger. How in the hell can their lawyers let them do this, that thing would be death on wheels!
I bet Roethelsberger buys the first one...and still doesn't wear a helmet
I love those style of motorcycles. Would be perfect for riding around my cottage, but couldn't spend the money necessary for something like that.Quote:

my st00pid moto is leaking gas, badly.
It's either my carburators, or I fucked up my reservoir selection lever. Gas drip-drip-dripping out of my drain mast/bottom of the bike...
so back to the shop she goes, oh well, maybe it's due for some tuneups too.
BMW's new 20k!! machine:

Date: Saturday/Sunday, August 5-6, 2006
Riders: Buzzworthy, 5 flies, 1 bee, and 95+ unknown splats on the windshield
Miles Ridden: 398.4
Route: Idaho 34, 89, 26, 31
Destination: Frozenwater's Place
Wife and child are out of town so I decided to take advantage and go see a good friend of mine and his family for the weekend. Since the weather has been so nice around these parts, the ride was taken via the 1100.
Friday night, packed, ready to go, yet planned poorly and should have left right after work. Thus this sat till Saturday AM and off I go.
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...6_x_972%29.jpg
It was sunny and barely a cloud in the sky. I decided the leather jacket was not going to be needed off the bat, so I bungied it. 10 miles in, jacket on. It was cool enough to be very comfortable and the bugs were already out. Nothing is better than wiping bug guts of yellow, red, green and other assorted colors off your arms. Much easier to wipe, that cowhide.
I wanted to get a nice pic of the bike with a view behind, Idaho:
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...6_x_972%29.jpg
This is what southern Idaho looks like, for a loooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg time:
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...972%29%7E0.jpg
BUT, this caught my eye around 10am on Saturday, August 5, 2006
SNOW!
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...6_x_972%29.jpg
After some long hills where I did actually wish I had more power as I had the throttle maxed and lots more collages of green, red, yellow and any other color you can think of lambasting my windshield and my leathers, it was time to take a break. Just as I pull off on a sportmans road to some lake, a nut had vibrated loose from the windshield mount, bounced off my tank in what seemed like slow motion, hit the road you see in the next picture and went bouncing into the weeds. I stopped to take a futile look for this little fucker, but to no avail. If I had found it, it was straight to the Idaho Lotto for a $208 million dollar ticket.
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...6_x_972%29.jpg
A bit later I pop into Star Valley to this view and more nice riding to the north:
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...6_x_972%29.jpg
Looking back on what I had come through so far:
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...6_x_972%29.jpg
So far it has been hammer down and 80 mph for a few hours but boy was it nice to head around the Palisades Lake, a good 30 minute ride around the lake that was so breathtaking I have only a few pics, I wanted to RIDE. At this point I was also ready to get to Frozen's for a cold one or 4.

So I arrive at Fred's place and what a place it is! The weather kicked ass, the ride was great and it was nice to see my buddy and his beautiful kids and wife.
We took a bit of time to bullshit and then headed out for more beer and some good mexican chow. This was to be a prelude to the evening as much tequila decided to disappear later.
So after lunch, it was time to ride some fourwheelers. :the_finge :the_finge
Pissing the neighbors off good was the first highlight, then on to bigger and better things, like to the top of some freaking huge peak. Buzz"dumbass"worthy forgot to bring the camera on this outing, along with no water or backpack (um, que Fred forgetting that) but luckily thought about the camera on my phone, as AWESOME as it is.
The Tetons (camera phones suck):
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...05-06_1534.jpg
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...05-06_1533.jpg
We were on the boundary of the Jedediah Smith Targhee National Forest Wilderness and found this marker planted in 1998 at the top of what we thought was a really cool chute to ski off in the winter, sled accessible, at least till the boundary and then some really nice areas to skin to quick and make some laps.
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...05-06_1812.jpg
We then hauled some serious ass home and during the ride, we encountered a lot of cows and a bull or two. One had largish horns that would not feel good in any part of you. "Don't fucking get killed by the bull" is all I heard and then a large dust cloud called Fred took off. We zoomed by, and I watched that facker go after Fred for a split second. Nuts.
After clean up and a few beers, it was dinnertime and steak was on the menu, with some great corn on the cob. We downed an $80 bottle of wine, proceeded into redbull vodkas, margs, and who knows what.
The last picture I can really put up here many hours into a 4-5 am night, what a gracious host :yourock: :
http://tetongravity.com/usergallerie...6_x_972%29.jpg
Mine or yours! What a host, could not have asked for a better weekend!
The ride home:
Date: August 6, 2006, I think
Riders: Buzzworthy, Hangover and more freaking bugs
Miles riden: Same, round trip
Route: Same, reversed
Destination: Bed
No pics. Stopped once. Got home. Parked bike, no unpacking, hit couch, end of TR.
A bike TR done all proper like. Nice work, and looked like a kickass ride.
killer moto stoke !!!
i caught one of these square in the forehead @50 mph and had to extract it whilst not crashing

Ouch. Bugs are unfun at speed. Is a fullface or a halfhelmet with a faceshield in your near future?

some would wave, some wouldn't and most of the wouldn'ts were big Harley guys. Most crotch rocket guys would still wave.
Now that I drive this:

All the Harley style guys/gals wave, some on smaller bikes don't and crotch rocket riders don't as much.
Scooters, no wave. Maybe they don't know?
Who cares if you spent $1200 or $27,000 on your bike? We are all out to ride and enjoy ourselves.
I admit I was kind of surprised at the waves I got from other motorcycle riders. I just have a little Suzuki GZ250, but most riders will wave on a two lane road when passing.
I recently did a mpg check and so far I'm getting about 65 mpg.
When I was up around Jackson two weekends ago on the bike there were tons of Sturgis people and most all waved.Quote:

That is killer. I get 45. Not as killer.
Got my first speeding ticket the other day. When I saw the cop, I was going 96mph, but by the time the ticket was in my hand, it read "70 in a 65."
I'm not proud of what I had to do to get it down to 70, but points on the license are no joke~! :tdo13:
Well, with your ride, that was inevitable, but still blows.Quote:

My cycle wouldn't even get close to that. If I go over 65 mph my cycle starts to vibrate like the LS9000 on turbo. I will usually cruise at 62 mph or so and the engine is reving fairly high. Interstate driving is out of the question.Quote:

Ever since I first visited Bear Lake last year, I've been itching to get back there and tour the lake on a motorcycle. Bear Lake straddles the border of Utah and Idaho. So a couple of weekends ago, Buzz and I agreed to meet up and ride around the lake and in the surrounding area.
We decided to meet at the Tabernacle in Logan, about 20 minutes from where he lives. This was about a 2 1/4 hour ride from my house in Sandy. Buzz rolled up to the parking lot on his V-Twin 1100 Honda cruiser with tail pipe rumbling. We chatted for a bit and were on our way to Logan Canyon.
Logan Canyon is a fun place to ride with lots of twists, turns, and long straights. Traffic was the limiting factor - seemed like we had to slow down a lot to accomodate slow moving cars.
We stopped at Beaver Mountain for a bit to check out Alta's old Germania lift being installed:
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01062.jpg
Back on the road, we continued toward Bear Lake. There was a bit of a sketchy section of dirt/gravel road on the section of road just above Garden City where they had torn out the asphalt for road repaving. Never haven ridden a section of dirt road on my bike before, I slowed way down and grannied it in first gear. Buzz went zipping along no problem - he has much more experience on that kind of surface.
We stopped at the overlook above the lake:
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01065.jpg
and then stopped for lunch just over the border in Idaho. The grill was firing: I had a tasty jerk chicken sandwich and Buzz kept it real with a burger. Recharged, we headed south to ride around the perimeter of the lake. If you've never been there - go. Now. It's incredible - turquoise water surrounded by white sand beaches.
Utah or the Caribbean? You decide:

http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01107.jpg
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01109.jpg
We encountered a bit more gravel road on the Idaho side of the border and I started getting riding on gravel dialed. It's all about relaxing and managing the small amount of drift you feel under the tires.
I spotted this haunted-looking house just north of Garden City:
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01101.jpg
After circling the lake, we headed north into Idaho to check out another canyon that Buzz was buzzing about - Emigration-Strawberry Canyons, aka Idaho Highway 36. The road connects the towns of Montpelier and Preston, Idaho. This canyon was way fun - lots of twisties and hardly any traffic. Nice views too - lots of conifers and aspens/cottonwoods.
This road had my favorite turn of the whole trip - a small right, small left, then perfectly evenly radiused 270 degree turn to the right that you could just rail on. Just set the bike into the turn and roll on the gas - the road did the rest as the lean angle and the fun factor became pegged. I actually hit this turn 3 times in a row on the return trip because it was so fun.
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01099.jpg
After Highway 36 was over, we headed south into Preston, ID which is a sleepy, agricultural town made famous by a certain indie flick a couple of years ago.
Paging Napoleon:
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01097.jpg
After riding south for a ways, we re-entered Utah and went onward to la casa de Buzz. Buzz and his wife were gracious enough to let me stay the night at their place. 2Planker and his wife came by for while, and we cracked beers while sitting around the campfire in Buzz's rad backyard. Good times were had by all as the night progressed on.
The view from Buzz's house:
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01080.jpg
Zander, Buzz's Great Dane. Seriously *the* biggest dog I've ever seen. A 180 pound pony with a dog collar that barks.
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01076.jpg
Buzz's landlords keep some llamas on the back 10 acres behind the house.
Tina, come get your ham, you stupid lard!
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01071.jpg
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01078.jpg
The next morning, Buzz and I rode over to this place called L.D's Cafe for breakfast. There, I had what was probably the best pancakes, ham and eggs ever. I want their pancake recipe. :) L.D's is one of those places that started up a long time ago - like the '40s or '50s - and hasn't changed much since - thank God.
After breakfast, we headed back to a curve by Buzz's place to take some action shots. It was great fun - the road was a nice 90 degree turn that was actually banked pretty steeply on the inside so you could take it pretty fast.
Here's some shots:

Me getting into the lean:
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01096.jpg
After the photo session, Buzz and I headed north to a store just over the Idaho border. I filled up on gas and we said goodbye. I then retraced my steps (and took a lot of the photos in this RR) - back up through Preston, into the Emigration-Strawberry Canyons to Montpelier, south along the west shore of Bear Lake past Garden City, then down through Logan Canyon to Logan.
Having most of a lazy Sunday to just ride and enjoy the sunshine, I tried to avoid the interstate as much as possible, and went the serendipity route. So, from Logan, I headed south through Paradise, UT into Avon, UT, onto what turned out to be a dirt road. I followed this dirt road for about 5 miles before my fillings had all rattled out, and I turned back. I'm told that if you follow this road all the way, you'll end up at Powder Mountain. Might be fun on a dirt/enduro bike.
This was one of the better sections:
http://slcelectronics.com/BearLake08...s/DSC01111.jpg
After getting the bike back on pavement, I caught U-89 to the I-15 south, and headed home.
In all, great times with great people.
Buzz- if you want me to post/host any of the photos you took, zip 'em up and shoot me an email at boarderline at gmail dot com.
