Here for the holidays and happy to hit during a snow storm, but got up for a few hours after driving from big sky this morning and confused to find most of the mountain closed off? Was just poking around stuff off Bridger gondola, Casper, Teton, and apres, and anything that looked fun was closed. What's going on???
Ropes are for tourists. :fmicon:
Kidding...
I'm outta town so they're waiting for me to get home before they open anymore terrain until I can safety check it.
Safety meeting is first. Laughing is second, third we Charge. Then back to safety meeting.
I figured.. But I'm a cool tourist! I post on trg!
Very dangerous for someone who was just at the Really Big where most everything is open, low tide be damned.:fmicon:
when I first moved here from VT I was blown away that we could ski on any of the mountain with how rocky it is when you see it with no snow.

Is it a new Poma?
We got one too and nobody likes it.
It is. https://liftblog.com/sublette-jackson-hole-wy-2/
Don't understand why they went high back, I often did the arm over the chair thing for safety/comfort when the bar wasn't down. I pretty much always ask for bar down if I have a pack for this chair. Most people were pretty happy to oblige.
That sucks for you guys, because that's a chair you actually want to ride.
At Snowmass, the new Coney Glade chair is mostly to supplement the Village Express six pack out of the base.
The VX would get some big lines, so they would open at 8:30 instead of 9. It was nice to get three laps in before the rest of the lifts open.
But the corporate bean counters have now deemed the new chair a success. Starting 1/5 all lifts are back to 9am start.
Instructors are bitching the most, what else is new. They used to be able to get in a few laps before line up.
The JH Ski Corp./JHMR have a decades long history of making any type of improvement with absolutely zero eye towards common sense functionality going forward.
See the Rendezvous bowl Platter in the 80's.
See the layout for skier walkup to the Bridger Ganjala or the first ski racks that there was a 50% chance your board would fall out in 10 mph winds.
See the many iterations of Nick Wilson's, none of which have been succesful.
I could pick 25 locals and turn that place into the greatest ski area in N. America in one season.
Sadly, after McCollister and Morley, the village has lacked any true vision.
Village angst is a lifelong malady for all skiing locals. Bet.
The new chair doesn't suck. It just could've been better. And a retrofit of seatbacks and extending the bar would almost remedy the new issues. A deeper seat would be ideal.
I'm not a fan of the cartoon guy. His stuff is usually lame and grasping for localness. Funny tho that he's tapped into a convo that's very real.
I didn't find the old Sublette scary. Even when it's howling.
Then again, I love that crazy weather.
Honestly in my nine season in JH I really didn’t have much to complain about as far as ski corp, goes. Sure not always spot on but if you spent your other seasons at Mt B and over where I am now you would truly see some piss poor ski area management.
Fair enough and I could talk all day about what's stellar at the village. It's rarely the management.
And as I consider the Vill being head and shoulders above almost any other area, I try not to make comparisons to a lesser place as it's unfair to both.
The last 3 to 8 years have been way more fucked up than the prior 45+. Before that, we were magically lucky that we made it under the radar for so long.
I blame Forbes, IKon, Covid and some of the money generators hired since Mommy Mouse took over.
Got a day in at the ghee with the wife and family. Nothing to complain about once we got parked. A foot of blower will cure whatever ails you.
Any recs for 5 early 30s folks trying to find a fun spot to ring in the new year in Jackson?
Have a bunch of friends going to the Moose for whatever show they’re hosting. That’ll be a banger for sure but we missed out on tickets and they weren’t cheap to begin with. If you can get a hold of some tickets that’d be a good time.
Torchlight parade at Snow King is kind of fun in a new experience, repeat every couple of years, maybe, type of thing.
Other than that I’m sure the Wort and Cowboy will have live music.

Yes the TGR flagship has a lot going for it. At least you have some local management, and money stays local. Even if it’s just into owners pockets.
At least your not run by the jackasses that are in PC right now. Man talk about mistake after mistake over there.
We get a lot of bumps in the road over in our neck of the woods too. Like right now we have a fur boot wearing hippy chick who probably has never used a shovel running the flagship of Alterra while trying to get people in KT Line to be more zen. At least they aren’t trying to make you mountain into northstar over there. We are just a cash machine for a Colorado Corp.
Oh and if i remember correctly Deirdra Walsh who now runs PC. Used to run Northstar. And chick who runs squaw now also came from Northstar. God help us all.
Same as in every ski town in the world.Quote:

Nice! There’s some DJs spinning in other rooms there too I believe.Quote:

That was some light stuff nuking down this afternoon, maybe lightest of the season? Tomorrow will be prime time. Git sum.
First ride on the new Sublette today. Didn't think it was too bad without a pack. The heavy chairs definitely make a difference. Probably wasn't windy enough to shut the old lift down, but damn close, and the new chairs were barely swaying. It was trippy getting off of Thunder and seeing the Sublette chairs whizzing up like that.
Always find the bumps that form at this time of year amusing.
Did Djongo safety check any of that soon to be open, looks fun terrain, but is roped off until he gives it okey-dokey?
Looks deep up there.
First day back on the hill after a holiday at sea level.
Skied a coupla hours first thing and altho viz was fairly low, the skiff of overnight snow made it feel great on the firm. Took a lap or two off piste and was stoked how positive it felt. Small bumps but easy to plow through.
Been snowing all day, but wee flakes so we'll see how they stack up.
Telemetry now shows 5" fallen since closing today. Tomorrow looks shiny.
Off piste has a firm but punchy base. The next foot or two is gonna be hero conditions for some laps methinks.
Lotsa shrubs pushing thru down low but not long to disappear.
Stoked you west slopers are getting the goods. Ski it up.
13" on our last day? I'll take it, praise ullr!
(A) good morning.

Jesus did I get fucked this morning. Woke up to the cat trying to hack a hairball onto my pillow. Then raced to get to the vill as it was already 7am. Driving by 8, I hit standstill traffic before McD's. The Y intersection was locked up at a standstill. I pulled a u turn and called it.
Dammit.
Yesterday was kinda cold up high so I threw some blue wax on the new 114's last night. It was 33* this morning. Dang, I gotta get dialed.
Had us a time!
Dj, super bummed to hear about the traffic. I must have just missed it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8de95cb4fa.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4bd4bc6a53.jpg
