I hear the local constabulary will even give you a ride to your overnight accommodations when you refuse to leave on a pow day.
Don't forget the prizes awarded to the quickest to get there!
Whats the story w/ that place? I have a client that stumbled up there & was 'scouting'. They described being accosted by a poorly dressed/ disheveled looking private security guard after they found what was described as a squatting scenario cult style in one of the buildings.....
I am pretty sure vermont does not have a right to roam law at least that I can find.
Either way, I had to choose between MT or burlington area. When its good, its good, but damn those winters are cold and gloomy.
Vermont law allows folks to hunt, fish, walk, etc. on private land without permission, unless it's posted otherwise.
Here is a fun little publication to confirm.
Take that with a grain of salt. There are thousands of landowners who don't give a fuck about your "right to roam" and will tell you point blank, get the fuck off my lawn!
They look for the respect of asking for permission first.
Hey EC'ers, since I moved back out east I've been skiing mostly on piste with some SL skis with wife/kids, and on rare genuine pow days I just bust out my 10 year old Rossi S3's.. I've found them to be a perfect pivot on a dime east coast tree ski. But they're so beat I need to replace them now. What do you guys recommend? I'm only going to ski these in the trees, in bumps, or on powder days. If it hasn't snowed in a while, I'll be on the SL skis. I like a 98mm ski, it's enough float for me. I want something that's going to be fun and nimble in the trees, and still decent in bumps.
I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to gear, been a decade since I bought anything. And in tech talk everyone just talks about little dick west coast freight train skis.. really looking for something geared towards the kind of terrain we get out east where everything is tight. Not looking for super expensive boutique brands, ideally a big manufacturer where I can get last years model on discount or something. Thanks!
You want the sIgnature PM rontele model. This year or last. Their the same thing.

Welcome back to the EC Grapedrink.
I would check out this thread which is chock full of good advice on which skis to buy.

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that anyone should just ski across someones back field without checking in first, but if you are recreating out in the woods and cross private land that hasn't been posted you are not in the wrong. Being an ungrateful dick is a damn good way to get private landowners to post their property (or pull out of KTA, for that matter).
We had two hunters pop out of the woods into my back yard a number of years back while we enjoyed a Sunday breakfast. They realized they made a mistake and headed back in the woods. I didn't bother to chase them down.
Any recommendations for young kids learning to ski? Will be taking 4 and 6 year old for instruction as they don't listen to me. NH resorts are in play.
+1.
Common sense goes a long way—if you're poking around out of sight of any structures, roads, etc, you should be okay skiing around without being too concerned about property lines. I wouldn't usually ski through someone's yard without checking in, though—even if it probably is legal, it certainly isn't polite.
paging all EC mags for a ski off with benny profane. Killington. Date tbd. apparently he rips harder than 90% of the board so make sure to wax your boards and box!
In for the LOLZ
Black Mountain of Maine has a new trail map. Seems we need one every four or five years to keep up. Hike to trails had excavator work and seeding, but the rain never came. Still should ski nice.
Going to brag some now. I took the lead on laying out and putting in the Osekare Uphill, Wild, East Branch, Roach and Headwaters Glades.
It is a community ski mountain with 0 second homes on the access road.
Sad to say, I have never skied Magic or MRG, but when the snow is good I would put our glades up against anyone’s, particularly if you like to jump.
Not seen on the map is all the glades that have been installed by Granite Backcountry Alliance between Black and Rumford Whitecap on Mahoosuc Land Trust preserved land. You can get quite a nice tour and Monday through Thursday the lifts don’t spin so it is like a private hill. Please pay the ticket online if you uphill

Nice work cat! I grew up on the West side of whitecap and skied many days at the old Black on the Rumford Jr High ski team. Sure has changed, and for the better. Pic of my bro and friends on top of Whitecap for some turns in the early ‘90’s.
We are rolling with the Indy pass. Family with 10, 7 and 5 year olds who aren't in a weekly program. Seems like a great way to explore spots the kids haven't been.
We have had Peak passes since they started, with a family place in N. Conway and Crotched for day trips from metro-west Boston. Family place is gone this year, so great opportunity to branch out.
And Jay, Magic, Cannon don't hurt! May save some of those for mid-week storm days. [emoji1]
if ive said it once, i've said it a million times. bmom is such a gem.. kudos to you, cat, for gettin in on the glading. :yourock:
No, Randonnee Cafe’ was my failed attempt at owning a cafe’. The restaurant business can fuck right the fuck off! Props to those who can do it, I could not.
I have cases of stuff left over, including a lifetime supply of stainless mugs. I’ll bring some when I go ski and gladly give any mags a couple if we meet up.
Yes, the Chicken Hearts. I remember when they would explode and the weights would go flying and hit you in the face. You could then either run them with holes in the tips ala’ DH boards or drill out quarters for weights and try to rebuild them and epoxy back together. Classic indeed.
that is sweet! could the winner of the chinese downhill come off the hill with a mug?
i’m not racist, my phone is
Have you floated the concept of a group buy in this thread?
