So if I’m reading reading this right, in summary, the changes for the Lupo for 23/24 this year are the addition of a lighter-weight Pro (130 flex), shaving around 200g primarily by way of a Grilamid🤢 clog. The true successor to the Pro HD (still 130 flex) now using a wrap liner🙌🏼, a softer flex (120) model as seeming replacement to the AX, and possibly AX HD depending on shell material used, and finally a woman’s Lupo with a slightly increased flex (100 to 105).
All Lupos will now sport a 99mm last, across the line (no more 100mm AX versions offered), and a redesigned ski/hike mechanism, with no additional details provided on what those differences are.
Not specified, but very much expecting (hoping for) the apparent Pro HD replacement, the (upgraded word salad) Cabrio LV Free 130 3D Wrap, to continue using a PU lower shell 🤞🏼😒🤞🏼
“Perhaps the biggest news out of Dalbello’s 2023/2024 lineup is the official retirement of their long standing Krypton/Chakra series, which is being replaced by their new Cabrio LV family. That’s good to know, as I couldn’t really tell from the photo whether the tongue was removable, and saw in another discussion (maybe NS?) that it wasn’t. But I guess they were just going by appearances. Curious to see how it works without the current flip/pin design..Quote:

I am doing all my touring in this boot now because it fits my foot so well that I can almost forget about the weight penalty... Almost. Sometimes it really would be nice to be in something substantially lighter.

Thanks--Lupo air looks interesting. 100mm last instead of the 98, but BSL is the same across sizes as the other lupos, which would be convenient. Have you or other pro HD owners put your feet in these boots yet?Quote:

I’ve worn kryptons/Lupo carbon/Lupo air for around 10 years. I’ve had good success switching to a Dynafit Hoji free 110 for touring. Lupo/krypton hybrid for skihill/slack. I did some shell work to the Hoji but not anything out of the ordinary. It fit pretty well out of the box much like the krypton.Quote:

Well, I pulled the trigger on a pair of ZGTP, so I'll provide some feedback regarding fit compared to the Pro HD after I get some time in them.
I ski pro hd’s off my sled, krypton’s inbounds, and picked up zgpt’s for touring this year. I took the tour wraps from my lupos and put them into the zgpt’s for a perfect fit. I always have to get shell work done and haven’t had to do anything which has been nice. The last several seasons I have been touring on lupos and love the fit, walkability, weight,, and skiing performance of the zgpt’s.Quote:

Kingpin skis nicer. Alpinist is lighter.
Lupo pro hd for a dedicated touring boot is an interesting choice, even if you aren’t doing huge days. Lots of fiddling, limited forward ROM, and heavy af.

I’ve been in a pair of Lupo TI since 2017. Use the orange 130 flex tongue. By far the best boots I’ve ever ridden, swapped out the liner for Intuition pro wraps a couple years ago and even better. I’ve never toured in them, don’t really intend to.
With the changes coming to the Dalbello line next year, I’ve been thinking about picking up another pair of Lupos/Kryptons. Found a great deal on some krypton 130 pro in my size. Seems to be similar narrow last as my 2017 TI. Would take them to my shop and probably put in intuitions.
Good idea? Always hesitant buying boots online but the lupos fit me so well and I don’t want to miss out…

This will reduce the heel-to-instep distance on this boot which is huge. It will make the shell actually wrap around your ankle and retain it better. I found the cable did little for heel retention because the wheel is so deep and there is no plastic in front of your foot.

Overall, very pleased with these out of the box, and I love that I can drop my tour wraps in and achieve a similar fit to what I was getting in the pro HD.

I doubt that this boot will walk as well as the Lupo--I sure hope it does--but I foresee removeable tongue mods being done.

Also - I don't think they're doing the plastic shim like they used in the Air, as that puts all the flex on the cuff, and would negate the use of a Pebax Tongue
Although... I think modding regular lupos into Lupo Airs for bigger spring touring missions would be sweet. If folks are interested I could whip up some CAD on the cuff shim to 3D print.
