Dropped my boy off at sailing camp this weekend. Not gonna lie, I'm super jealous of all the fun he’s going to have these next few weeks.
If anyone wants to watch a great sailing channel on YouTube.. check out Madison Boatworks... A married couple from Seattle area .. Fixed up a wooden boat. Sailed down west coast to Mexico.. Then across the Pacific to Marqueses and Tahiti.. And Fiji..and other islands.. They are still sailing.. Heading for Oz.. After that I don't know.. They post about once a month..
Sailfest out at the GSL. https://youtu.be/hfWADkmeMXo?feature=shared

Don’t trash me for the condition of the sailing center boat. You should have seen how it was left in when we boarded!
That being said, is there any benefit to loosening the halyard and pulling the main sail down via the cunningham so there is no gap at the foot?
I would see if you can attach the Tack of the mainsail to the Gooseneck on the boom and then run the Cunningham hook through that empty Cringle about 12” up the sail.
That should remove the wrinkles/baginess in the mainsail and give you better range of adjustment in the shape of the sail.
Not sure on the BSC boats but on my boat there's a pin in the gooseneck that goes through that bottom grommet and attaches the tack of the sail to the boom (like singleX said). Maybe missing on that boat?
If my boat was in the water, I'd take a pic to clarify but you know the rest of that story...
ETA: Upon further review, there's 2 hooks on the gooseneck. One of those should be used to attach the tack. Just have to make sure it stays on the hook when you raise the halyard.
Man, I love this little fella.

I’m starting to form the idea of sailing up the Coast and camping along the way. Probably a 8-9 day trip.
Wow, in the peapod? Looking forward to the TR either way.
DO IT DO IT DO IT.
Yeah, the Peapod is kind of made for these waters… especially with a SW tailwind pushing me home DownEast.
I’ve done Portland to MDI in a sea kayak and again in a 19’ ODay Mariner sailboat without a motor. I expect that this would fall somewhere between those two. Maybe early September…
It’s not all rainbows and dolphins out here in the sailing world.
There we were this morning about 5a, stern anchored to shore and with the anchor out, all cozy, peaceful and sleeping in/on Medousa when All Hell broke loose.
A catamaran under power backed over 6 anchor chains dragging their anchor and chain.
These idiots were Bashing into other anchored boats. Taking no evasive maneuver directions from anyone.
The idiots got their boat loose and headed out of the bay with no regard for the problems they caused.
It took about 5 hours of tough work for 9 of us on four boats to get our anchors and anchor chains untangled.
We were Czech Republic, France, Bulgaria and USA folks all working and helping each other to solve our collective problem.
International Relations working how International Relations should work, at all levels!

Kinda both?
I went to school less than an hour from there. IT is a really cool place that hosts a ton of great events. Lots of hippies up that way.
Not sure what the Institute started out as, but it has become a bit of a cultish place I guess.
God do I love that area of the country 6 weeks a year.
One of my all time favorite time wasters is Marine Traffic. Find any vessel by name and see where it is in real time.

Looks like they are still off the coast of Greece- can't read it though- it's all Greek to me.
Zoom out on that map- holy shit that's a lot of ships
Pretty cool, isn't it?
We were boating around Charleston Harbor the other weekend and there was this massive 300' megayacht anchored off Ft. Sumter so we pulled up marinetraffic to see what was up with it. Turns out it was J.K. Rowling's yacht and she was there doing some sightseeing.
That is pretty cool, but the next time I am in Key West, my wife will be pissed because I will be geeking out on my 'puter looking at yachts instead of ... whatever we normally do in KW.
Yep seems more productive than getting my ass kicked fly fishing for tarpon.

Better than getting my ass kicked by Sloppy Joe's.
Or Russian strippers.
Or both (most likely scenario)
I've never cruised (pretty much all racing for me), but it sure does seem like some of those bareboat charter companies are a little too eager to rent boats out to people...
Meanwhile I know just enough to know that I'd be scared to take one without any prep. I know how to sail the thing (hopefully) fast, but dealing with complex anchorages is not something I have any real experience with.

My wife’s Laser 2… it was her 16th Birthday present. Sailed hard and put away wet for over 35 years. Hull delaminating from the deck and cockpit pan letting in copious amounts of water. Wife and oldest kid almost sank it mid race last year in the local Regatta. Adios, Qucksilver and thanks for the memories!
You know what you need to do.

I’ve got an optimist dinghy with a tiny bit of use I’d love to move. Kids sailing team has moved to Tera RS boats. Drop me a line if anyone has interest!

She was top girl at North Americans and t team is headed to Copenhagen in a couple weeks for worlds. I wish I had my kids life!
do they travel with their boats for a meet like that or is there some sort of loaner system for folks coming from afar?
Math doesn’t add up. She’s only 39, right?
How’s her knee?

^^
Thanks for the update. Tell her I said hi and good luck in September.
The team is able to “charter” from locals or the guy who reps the boats
