This gave me an idea--if and when they build the water park, one of us needs to shit in the pool every day so they have to shut it down.
Anyone get out to Mt. Rose or Boreal today?
So this happened twice in one weekend at the new neighborhood pool this summer. Were you the culprit?

It's ok. It's just a baby Ruth
^^^LOL.
Are people really getting excited because BA said there might be some bigger storms arriving 10 days out. In a shoulder season. Mmkay. Hope that pans out.
Either way works for me. Surf has been super fun this month. Storms fuck that up some. But then snow is fun. Fingers crossed we get no storms or some storms or a shit ton of storms.
Well in the short term tomorrow and tomorrow night were upgraded significantly, but snow levels are a toss-up. I think that was the reference. For the 10-15 day outlook there's a lot of agreement between models. It had to snow eventually.
I was pretty much referring to the crazy 112" 16-day forecast.
He had upgraded tomorrow's storm and the latest from the nws goes beyond that as they are calling for lower snow levels and less splitting. That means we can beat the previous, weaker 16 day forecast!!
"it has to snow eventually"

"wait it's april??"
undoing some jinxes here
To be fair that was a model run that he consistently says overstates totals. And he even said that was an obviously high and exaggerated number right after the screenshot.
He's just trying to generate hype and let people see what's possible..
Of course, this is why I left town till the end of the month a couple days ago. We'll see if it worked in the end
Dumping hard in Marin Co. And cold.
I planned Tday in Santa Cruz with family visiting in hopes it would kick start the season. Hoping that works.
It's still nearly 50 in Truckee - that cold air had better blow in quickly. Hoping it turns from rain to snow by mid afternoon otherwise we might be looking at a few inches this weekend instead of a foot-plus.
5800ft in glenshire is all snow. Attachment 192936
Started snowing in Truckee around 1... no rain at all. Starting to accumulate already. Good sign.

Freezing elevations over Tahoe are pretty high now (snow levels a bit lower, looks like ~7500 feet), but should drop a bit this evening. Kirkweeziana and Sonora look to do better with precipitation from the colder part of this first wave:

Between now and overnight, the moisture plume dips down south, thus favoring regions south of Tahoe more so than the North Shore region. Difference between position of Pdub this am and tonight (think of it as brown was 11am, green is 2am forecast):

3.5 - 4 inches so far at 6400 feet. Snow stopped but better than rain. Thought this might be more interesting than the typical back deck shot.

Went by a construction site in Reno tonight and everyone of their Porta potty's was tipped over. Signs of a good wind event
Yeah. It was hella windy down on the coast yesterday.
Just changed back to snow in Glenshire 6,000' at 0800
Who is headed out to hit up the Sugarbowl Picnic tables today?

Looks like I need to kick the spiders out of their summer home and get my skis patched and tuned for another season

So, I assume Sugar Bowl will be blocking access tomorrow as they prepare for winter operations? Anyone planning to go out tomorrow am around the north / west shore? I'd rather not pay $45 for a lift ticket at Mt. Rose for a few open trails that'll get tracked out in 20 minutes. Storm is definitely going to over-deliver (since it already has).
I am thinking of doing some north shore backcountry. Nothing crazy just an easy tour to get the season started. PM me if you are interested.
Big fat wet flakes for the past few hours in Meyers with a few inches of accumulation.
I almost forgot how much a shit show 50/Pioneer becomes on snowy Sundays. It's amazing.
If you or anyone you know wants some ski tuning done hit me with a PM. Hoping to tune for a side job this winter. Used to race and have all the equipment to make your shit fast. All edge bevels, stone work, fluoro wax, roto brushing, base cleaning, etc. reasonable rates.
Only thing I really don't like to do is ptec. I live in truckee but my tune equipment is in TC. get at me
Hourglass today was deep, heavy, fun

Waking up to winter at 7,700' with more on tap this week. Kwood webcam snow stake is covered but the cornice cam looks promising as last leg of storm seemed to favor south of lake
Has anyone tried skinning at kwood this year yet?
Was short on time this morning so I skied a quick lap on Glacier / Sunrise Bowl. 1.5 - 2 feet of heavy supportive snow with better coverage than expected. Only a few people out there so far. I remembered to change my boots out of walk mode so I'd call it a success. ;-)

Yes Toby I've been out there twice it's all good. Went out this way today, South side needs more

Do those two crazy looking couloirs go all the way?
Looking at rose area from Tahoe city today, saw showers firing up there almost all day. Any reports? Thinking about an early tour on the way to the airport
There's three. The big one in the center splits above the big rock and there is another going up diagonally to the left you can see the tiny part of the crux.
Attachment 193178
Yes. That would be Round Top off the PCT - Crescent Couloir and the other that splits is called... umm... up for debate as per this thread last year? Was there a final verdict on the name, I don't remember?
Also: even steeper than they look. I've never skied any of them.
here's seanhav in moon couloir in similar conditions (11/13/10)
and here is the lookers left the next day
