became this thanks to Mr Costello
It would be remarkable if this hasn't been mentioned yet

Funny you should mention Galaxie 500.
I have been thinking about Luna's cover of "Bonnie and Clyde", which I own as a single and on an album and listened to for years before I checked out the Serge Gainsbourg original.

FYI, the song has been covered by quite a few interesting folks:

Some songs will never be covered better than the original. This is one, but still fun for original bands to pay homage to the legends that paved the way

Too lazy to look, but surely some has already mentioned
BLINDED BY THE LIGHT
Keeping with Dookey's "not necessarily better, just different" tact. Kinda nails the solo at the end!

Nobody should feel obligated post the bullshit metallica Danzig covers: please and thank you.

Nina Simone’s version of Strange Fruit is at least equal to the Billie Holiday version.

Never really liked the way Bob Dylan sings or plays. Like the songs he wrote though..

Actually, both are good.
I mean REO Speedwagon was great but I like this better:
More depressing songs...sung by dead guys.

Maybe sacrilege, and I'm not sure better - but when I'm in the mood, these work for me:

fuck people, how hard is it to embed? I don't like clicking on youtube links just to find out what song it is. If on a PC, just hit the little film reel icon. If on a phone, just put [video] tags around your youtube link.
That said, at least knowsam put the song in with the link. And that Cat Power version of Satusfaction is really interesting, as mentioned earlier the best covers are ones that reinterpret the song, not just play it. Not sure if it's the best. Also like the idea of the symphony arrangement for Teen Spirit, but it's definitely not better than the original.
Don't think this one's been posted yet:

learn something new every day.
and from the comments:
Ozzy Osbourne misheard the lyrics and so if you listen to the Sabbath version, you can hear him sing "I was born without you baby / But my feelings were a little bit too strong" instead of "I was warned about you baby / But my feelings are a little bit too strong".
In the other direction, Cardi B MASSACRED "I Like It Like That".. So horrible LOL..
Hurdy Gurdy Man. o.g. Donovan vs. Butthole Surfers. Butthole Surfers for the win. Kinda lighter than other BHS tunes but still gives a pretty good dose of a holistic sonic assault on the senses.
