Netflix: instaView rec's

For those of you who dug Wu Dang, this is one of my other favorite martial arts/kung fu epics of the past few years (it just popped up on NF this week). It's completely over-the-top, slightly in the vein of Kung Fu Hustle, but with a "historic" back-drop, so it kind of owes a debt to Once Upon A Time In China, as well as King of Beggars (two classics any self-respecting fan of the genre should see, imho). Oh yeah, there's nods to Scott Pilgrim, too...

x2. Headhunters was a blast.

'Top of the Lake,' a BBC series set in NZ is now available on Netflix. I've watch 2 episodes and am pretty hooked. Elizabeth Moss as a detective in a child crime case up in a mountain town. Twin Peaks vibe. Also kind of Killing-esque I guess, though I've never seen that show.

This is a forgotten/overlooked classic in my books and a great '70s crime flick. It was directed by Don Siegel, who helmed such memorable cinematic ventures as Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Killers, Two Mules for Sister Sara, Dirty Harry, The Shootist, Escape from Alcatraz, amongst others.

Highly recommended.

Continuum.

Really well done series about a gang from 2077 that travelled back to 2012 Vancouver. Can be a little hard to follow after a few bong hits. Can't wait for another season to come out.

^^^ Continuum was well done. Kid from Jericho and the dude from Intelligence.

Special Forces, a French flick, is pretty good for Afghanistan war action. Not tits, but good.

Another BBC series which I enjoyed (along with Top of the Lake) was Copper. Set in NY during civil war. Got a kind of gritty gangs of New York feel to it.

Just watched Day of The Falcon. Four stars easy.

Totally taken with it.

Really "digging" Gold Rush. It's some reality discovery show. Good scenery of Alaska and you'll feel really smrt watching these dudes make bone headed decisions.

Anyhew, watched "Cabin in the Woods" over the weekend. Holy shit, I loved it. Campy, silly, creepy & suspenseful. 46.3/57 stars.

Yeah, great tech twist on a plot as old as storytelling. It even had Ripley!

Dark Matters: Twisted But True

It's narrated by Walter from Fringe. Slow to go, some good tales along the way, but it ramps up in episode three with a story about the CIA dosing a large village in France and framing it as ergot contamination in the rye bread, followed by the discovery of Alien Hand Syndrome, which is trippy as hell. Turns out each side of our brains holds its own separate intelligence which, when the connecting tissue between the hemispheres is severed, can act very independently. Great episode.

Danno - the chart asks 'keep it mellow?' then recommends Midnight Cowboy. I chuckled.

The Thieves.

This is a Korean/Hong Kong collaborative caper flick that starts out light and breezy like Ocean's 11 and then gets hectic like The Raid. Great cast, engaging story, killer action sequences. Top notch.

Way too much Netflix lately, I caught the 30/30 on Bo Jackson yesterday. It was fucking awesome, great memories.

Yeah, I enjoyed the Bo Jackson special, dude was easily the best athlete I've seen in my lifetime.
